The Pope has appointed progressive Newark Cardinal Joseph Tobin to the Vatican’s bishop-making panel. Why does this matter? Phil Lawler explains:
Let’s suppose that a man you know accidentally makes public a Twitter message that was obviously supposed to be read by only one person. The message reads: “Nighty-night, baby. I love you.” The man who sent that message is not married. What do you conclude?
Right.
Now further suppose that the man in question is a celibate priest. In fact, a cardinal of the Catholic Church. Does that alter your conclusion?

I am at a point in my life where I am searching for some Spiritual framework to become a part of. I've been considering 'coming home' to the faith of my childhood, but cannot seriously be a part of an organization that is so hypocritical. There is suspected child abuse by a Priest with a family member. So from the top on down there are lies and deception.
No matter what good the Catholic church does, this deception and other social stands have made up my mind for me.
I'm thinking I'll go Unitarian. At least they're honest about their sexual preferences. Or perhaps the local new age rock in roll Christian mega church. Jesus cannot be happy about this.

Rod Dreher you might want to read up on the Eighth Commandment in the Catechism. The standards for when you accuse somebody are not so fluid as you think they are. You can't accuse somebody on the grounds that somebody in a similar position committed a grave sin. If you're Catholic, do go read what we think the Eighth Commandment says. It appears more clear you are in violation of the Ten Commandments than that Tobin is.

We have entered an era similar to the Dark Ages where even the major religions are political and corrupt throughout their hierarchy. It's palpable. Everything feels like the early tremors and venting just before the eruption of some super volcanic event.

I am with #5 all the way. Read the Book for yourself.
The Roman Catholic Church departed from truth 500 years ago, at the Council of Trent. There they made official the errors pointed out by Luther and the other reformers. Now they have changed Mary, the mother of Jesus, to the third person of the Trinity. Mary is now the author of our salvation, since the prayers center on the Rosary "Hail, Mary". And it is the breaking of her Sacred Heart that saves us. She is Queen of Heaven, and has omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence.
And the Divines, assembled in Holy Council, chose a Communist Jesuit for their infallible leader.
What could go wrong?

When you begin to understand that priests who raise up the Catholic clerical pecking order to the rank of Archbishop or Cardinal are in effect religious politicians you will be able to start figuring out what has been going on in the worldly Catholic hierarchy. In one respect the huge number of pederasts in Catholic clerical ranks would not have been able to survive in the Church if they were not greatly covered for by many of those religious politicians.
Socialist oriented Catholic politics are really effecting Biden today, as clearly what is now going on with Biden’s open borders and catch and release policies are no doubt what the current socialist Pope told Biden to do. You can’t argue against that, as the Pope has been out there since he arrived in Rome saying that the USA should have open borders for unlimited numbers of foreign “refugees” that encompasses any poor person from anywhere in the world who would like to make a better life for themselves in the USA. The long-term object of those open borders and catch and release policies are to permanently change the politics of the USA, through future great voter demographic alteration looking towards transforming the USA into a future socialist utopia. Did the American people know that when they voted the feeble Biden into office, who no doubt has been exhibiting age related declining cognitive abilities in recent times, so that Biden could open America’s borders to all comers?

One of THE most appalling comments by this Pope is/was that Biden and Pelosi are Catholics in good standing. They are pro abortion, even as late as just about born!!!!!!!!!!!! So nothing re: the Cardinals and others does not surprise me---it is a reason the Church has lost so many.

Just for grins, did a search on 'how many religions are there in the world'. There are several main religions, and many denominations. Grand total: 4200.
Guarantee they aren't all in God's will, and doubt God had a hand in bringing them all into existence. Or maybe, just maybe, God had a hand in bringing all those religions into existence. Doubtful considering so religions contradict one another.
God and religion are two different things. Pray and have a relationship with God. If you can find a religion you can trust, great. Needless to say, many (all?) religions have problems. People leave religions all the time. People leave the religion of their childhood. I went to a Roman Catholic church as a child, but it never really resonated with me. By the time I was a junior in high school, I had stopped attending. Still believe in God, and I pray daily. Just no church or religion at this point. As near as I can tell. no religion answers the questions I have.

Mathman, with all due respect,
No, we Catholics do not consider Mary the third person of the Trinity. We revere her, as do the Orthodox Christians. From what I have read, Martin Luther himself revered her. Wikipedia says: He [Martin Luther] also advocated the use of the pre-Trent version of the Hail Mary (that is, "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.") as a sign of reverence for and devotion to the Blessed Virgin.[33] The 1522 Betbüchlein (Prayer Book) retained the Ave Maria.[34] [which means "Hail Mary" in Latin].
The phrase "Hail Mary" is implied in Luke 1:28 (King James Version):
“And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.”

I think it would do most of us a world of good, to properly understand what Our Lord Himself said often enough while preaching on this earth, to make us realize the Supreme reason Christ came to earth was to render OUR SALVATION!! Mark 2:17 17: On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." More often than not, hypocrites rarely recognize themselves. Sad fact.

#2~ "Searching: Unitarian, Mega Church." ~ If personal conviction believes in a triune God, be warned that Unitarians believe “that Jesus was a great man and a prophet of God, even a supernatural being, but not God himself ... believe that Jesus did not claim to be God and that his teachings did not suggest the existence of a triune God ...” Be reminded of St. Paul’s admonition as written in 2 Timothy 3:13-17 ~ “while evil people and imposters will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. ...” There remains, thankfully, one denomination that has existed for more than 500 years that has not, so far, ceded to politics or political correctness—may its commitment to our Triune God and Scripture-based teachings remain unwavering through the end times.
#9~ “As near as I can tell. no religion answers the questions I have.” It would be interesting to know the questions that seemingly have no answers.
#10~ Martin Luther was devoted to Mary. In his 1537 sermon, “Feast of the Visitation,” he said, “No woman is like you. You are more than Eve or Sarah, blessed above all nobility, wisdom, and sanctity.”

#12 Clarification For #2~ “There remains, thankfully, one denomination that has existed for more than 500 years that has not, so far, ceded to politics or political correctness—may its commitment to our Triune God and Scripture-based teachings remain unwavering through the end times.” Clarification: In the States, there is one ultra-liberal synod, and two conservative synods of this denomination; the conservative synods have not, thankfully, so far, ceded to politics or political correctness.

Biden just about always finds a way every time he talks at any length about any subject, to bring up that he is a devout Catholic and that he has had members of his family die by way of an accident or because of a health issue.
But when you get to the nitty-gritty factor of Biden being a devout Catholic, that depends on another factor called political correctness. Whenever Biden has to chose between Catholic doctrine relating to the issue of opposing abortion which is not politically correct, Biden moved to enthusiastically support the US Government paying for abortions throughout the country and the world that is very politically correct and in contrary to Church doctrine. But when you take the issue of opening American borders to unlimited numbers of foreign “refugees” who are really economic migrants in disguise, that is both in accordance with Catholic Church doctrine and political correctness Biden will always follow Church doctrine as long as it is in accordance with political correctness. With Biden it is all Democrat politics and being politically correct that really counts.

#2 In China our religion is persecuted and underground.
That includes the bishops, who suffer because their true hearts remain with the Church.
We bear that cross along side them, and in support of them.
To those who have no access to the legit parishes out there--w/ fair- spoken orthodoxy ...and properly run--
you can receive support on tv from EWTN.
Further, you can get on-line to find like-minded groups and priests you can look up to.
Do take that time please, to ask your questions, and get your answers.
The path is before you.
As Dante would say, sortof, the only way out of hell.... is through.
To inspire you, get the box set of DVD's Catholicism by Bishop Robert Barron.
It will lift you up....and through.

#10: please go to the source. I do not know what all Roman Catholics believe.
I do know what you MUST believe if you claim to be Roman Catholic. This has been set forth in two infallible declarations. You do know that the Pope, when speaking ex cathedra is infallible, don't you?
The first infallible declaration was in 8 Dec 1854: the document is Ineffabilis Deus; the document declares infallibly that Mary was Immaculately Conceived and did not share the sin of Adam. Belief in this doctrine is necessary to be a Catholic. The Declaration says exactly that. So Mary never sinned.
The second was in 1 Nov 1950; the document is Munificentissimus Deus; as a Catholic you must believe that Mary ascended bodily into Heaven. This document is also infallible. You must pray to Mary and not to Jesus.
Both documents are available through the Catholic Encyclopedia.
Oh, by the way. Mary is co-mediatrix and co-redemptrix with Jesus. Your forgiveness of sin depends on Mary as much as it does on Jesus. And she is the Mother of God.
What Mary lacks to be part of the Trinity is not at all clear to me.

For the record, although Martin Luther was very devoted to Mary, he strongly condemned, “...any devotional practices which implied that Mary was in any way equal to our Lord or that she took anything away from His sole sufficiency as our Savior.” In his 1531 Christmas sermon, he said: “[She is the] highest woman and the noblest gem in Christianity after Christ. ...She is nobility, wisdom, and holiness personified. We can never honor her enough. Still honor and praise must be given to her IN SUCH A WAY AS TO INJURE NEITHER CHRIST NOR THE SCRIPTURES.”
