Though widely anticipated, the death of Rush Limbaugh after a long battle with cancer is a major blow to conservatives. His witty, often acerbic commentary had been a daily anchor to reality for many Americans, tired of the mainstream media’s lies, bias and prevarications. But with his death, Limbaugh leaves a hole in the conservative movement that is impossible to fill.
The center-right media firmament has many bright stars. Unfortunately, none shine as brightly as Rush did. As the numerous accounts of his death and life point out, he was the most listened to radio show host in history.

Rush is no longer hurting, sick or worried. We will miss him terribly, but he is in a better place. RIP Rush!

It is not going to be t he same without Rush, because he was so intertwined with our lives. This will take some getting used to.

Yes, it is beautiful where Rush is now. His passing leaves a hole in conservatism? Of course, it does. But, I & I Editorial Board, the hole is not impossible to fill. Believe it or not, Rush's passing will rally right-minded America big time going forward. And a good many libs will come to realize what they passed up these past 30+ years of Rush's program and contributions to America. Meanwhile, more new talents will rise to the top and become the new legends. A good many already exist.

He has left us a valuable treasure. The knowledge that there are tens of millions out there who love and care for this country and cherish the liberties passed on to us by our forefathers. It is up to us to make good use of it.

Rush was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. He fought the good fight and now has gone to his well-deserved rest. Godspeed, my friend.

And people show their true colors at his death: any number of pathetic haters show their" importance" by being vile about the man. Bette Midler has also hit my write off forever list as someone I have lost all respect for....and not for the first time, by the way. I have all her cds and........used to respect her! On the other hand, Meghan McCain showed true graciousness and kindness of spirit in her (now taken down? Because of nasty reactions?) in her tweet. Above all, I think of Nancy Pelosi, when Limbaugh was given there Presidential Medal, sitting behind Trump moving papers around and looking sour----Pelosi and AOC are two of the very worst, one because she is so dumb and the other because she is such a mean, sour, DISHONEST woman

Dignified and brilliant until the end. Rush didn’t decompose into a hateful caricature of a human, as prominent “leaders” of the democrat party have. There will be a huge void in my daily weekday from noon to three.

... a true American hero... Rush was the "Thomas Paine of our time "....a "truth-teller"....and the left hated him for that.
... I can't even begin to describe the huge impact he had on my life and the way I look at things over the past 25 years.
... America has suffered a huge loss... we knew it was coming ... but the sadness is not abated.

That editorial tribute was fitting to Rush. The torch bearers coming up are equal to the task, if given a chance. The people mentioned in the 3rd paragraph are all in my sights. Especially the conservative stars fixed in the Daily Wire constellation. That was my go-to place as soon as the last music bump on the EIB finished. I admit to going into a tailspin over Christmas holidays because Andrew Klavan wasn't on the air. I had to laugh myself silly with his reruns.

With Rush's passing, the tree has died, but there are thousands of saplings that have taken root. Rush can never be replaced, but his insights and wit will never die.

My husband was not a regular listener and probably only heard Rush’s show when we were in the car together on a long trip. But he agreed with Rush on the issues and knew how much I loved him because I listened almost every day. When the news broke yesterday, my husband put our American flag up on the front porch with a black mourning streamer attached to it. The nation’s flags should be flown at half mast for the next week in Rush’s honor but the haters in the White House will never do that. So we will do it ourselves.
To help myself cope with this huge loss, I’ve been picturing Rush in heaven surrounded by the likes of Ronald Reagan, Bill Buckley, Charles Krauthammer, Andrew Breitbart, Tony Snow and so many others. And I look forward to joining them in that group some day.

Those listed couldn't carry Rush's microphone on their best day. His loss is indeed a major blow to conservative communications. He had talent that was indeed on loan from God. He was not a shill, recognized politics for what it is, i.e. show biz for the ugly, and rarely flogged a dead horse issue. He was full of himself in an entertaining way, without the overt nastiness that others often exhibit. He cut to the chase on issues, not concentrating on the shiny objects.
Unlike most of those listed, I could listen to Rush for three hours, invited to think for myself with his sage input. That is what I will miss about his program.

There will be no replacing Rush! His extensive daily preparation was obvious to his listeners.
But I can assure you that many of those candidates mentioned in this article as a replacement option are a "no".
Rush did NOT spend any valuable time talking about the personal life of his staff or what his daily routine was (Sean Hannity).
His loyalties were never in question because he didn't work for Fox and have to cater to the boss (Laura Ingram)...
Only Mark Stein has the humor and consistency to help his listeners through this grief.
Only Trump could hold his audience together.

Bah. We don't need another Rush. When he began, no one predicted his arrival on the scene. He found his own way from Cape Girardeau, MO to our hearts all on his own. And he brought his father and grandfather along for the ride. Along with the whole Paul Revere series. Heck. He only failed five times.
The new Rush will find his own way to our hearts. And, like Rush, he/she will bring a love for the real America with him/her.
You will know. It will happen. Voids are always filled.
Decency, patriotism, and honor still rule. And somewhere among the 320 million of us, the next Voice will arise. No one could have predicted Lincoln or Reagan either.
Keep your ears open.

When annoying developments hit the news, my wife often gets slightly depressed. I always have told her, "Don't let the lefty's get to you. Listen to Rush's take on this and you'll feel better."
It always worked. Rush was an optimist. That's what I'll really miss.

Andrew Klavan and Mark Stein are the only two I would consider listening to in Rush Limbaugh's absence. The rest have failed numerous times in the past to measure up, too willing to follow Bill O'Reilly's schtick. I like Klavan a lot but he is a bit unknown at this point.
Don't know if Kurt Schlicter is well-versed in radio, but he's got the humor that hits the spot.

We lost a GIANT in 2009 with the death of Paul Harvey. AT the time, HE represeted America as it was, full of common sense from the WW II generation who had lived through the Great Depresssion.
Yesterday, we lost another GIANT who took over the mantle of Conservatism from President Ronald Reagan.
ABC radio tried a number of "replacements" but none of them were able to carry the audience.
Virtually ALL of talk radio, AM radio, sports talk radio will be affected, and there are those in the #2 positions on down which will continue on ther own, but the Noon-3pm ET slot will be tough to fill as many who listen to newstalk flow from one program to another throughout the day.
When we lost Paul Harvey, our culture took a turn for the worst.
The passing of Rush Limbaugh will see all the others scrambling to find that audience to strengthen their positions, and I hope and pray they don't turn into Benedict Turtle/MittensRomney types.
Rush was the voice of the people who had no voice. The socialists are hoping to stomp out our freedom of speech so we cannot dissent and take part in policy debate and the future of the nation.
It is up to us to carry the water of conservatism now-- the RINOS have given away the family jewels of small government, lower spending, family values, etc. The people who live them are still out there--

Rush was a gift from God. There will never be another like him. But hopefully his legacy will be those that heard him and learned and will carry on! I do miss him!
