The supposedly nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has selected the following topics for Thursday night's final encounter between President Trump and Joe Biden: "Fighting COVID-19," "American Families," "Race in America," "Climate Change," "National Security" and "Leadership." The commission also announced it will mute the microphone of the candidate who is not talking, which could be advantageous for President Trump since the more Biden talks the less clear he becomes.

I haven't seen climate change as a major political issue of concern to voters in any poll. Yet, the non partisan commission seems to pick this very partisan topic every debate.

"Foreign Relations" might be appropriate. But then, at this point in time, it would be seriously uncomfortable for the Bidens.

As planned, this will not be a debate. It will be an infomercial for Biden-Harris. No debate will be allowed. On the one side will be the moderator (Biden contributor) and Biden. On the other side will be a cardboard cutout representing the muted President.
The moderator will read the Biden talking points and Biden will affirm them. This will be done for each topic. Then the program will end.
There will be no mention of the Biden family payoff from Burisma or the Moscow mayor's wife. There will be no mention of the Biden tax increase. There will be no mention of Biden's pro-abortion stance. There will be no mention of the Biden Green New Deal. There will be no mention of the fracking ban. Anything important to the people of the United States will NOT be discussed.
Remember: this is the Chris Wallace plan to make Democrats look good.

Trump should be able to pin Biden on each of these topics as a corrupt stooge of the left... Green New Deal and Biden in thrall to China just to name a couple.

Each of the topics has an opening for Trump. He will be attacked by both the moderator and Biden on each one, but he can make some points, assuming he doesn't get muted mid-sentence or constantly interrupted by the moderator. If that happens, he can point to the rules (won't stop the abuse, but will allow people to see what he is up against). He won't control the exact questions, but he should be able to include the points in his answers.
COVID - he can point to the timeline of what was done and who was on what side of each issue. As well as what's happening now with the current lockdown (examples by state) and how this affects the average person.
American Families - this one is a gotcha to attack him. He can point to the economy for this as families are definitely affected by the economy/jobs.
Race in America - duh... I wonder what he will be asked about here (for the 73rd time). He can once again discuss the economy and how it affects minorities. He can also specifically ask Biden about the BLM/Antifa destruction of minority-owned homes and businesses (in Democrat controlled cities), if Biden will specifically denounce those organizations, and if not then why is Biden supporting the destruction of said homes and livelihoods of minorities.
Climate Change - he can point to jobs which will be affected by elements of the New Green Deal (end to fracking, curtailment of oil production, energy cost explosions, etc). Jobs will be lost (both in energy industry as well as manufacturing which will move overseas), families will have to pay more for energy, etc. And none of this will slow down CO2 emissions (which now come primarily from China).
National Security - he could have a field day with this one. Biden's scandals (such as the latest stuff found on Hunter's hard drive) create enormous opportunities for adversarial nations and groups to exploit (they probably have already). He can also discuss the Middle East situation and how that affects national security. He could also bring Antifa/BLM into the discussion as they affect national security as well.
Leadership - let's see.... Being visible vs hiding in a basement. Wonder where this one might go.
At any rate, even though the topics are definitely meant to help Biden float, every one of them has something Trump can use if he wants to. I'm pretty sure the moderator will try her best to shut him down, interrupt, "fact" check, and try to steer him away from anything that hurts Biden. Biden will also repeat some of his own talking points and no doubt attack Trump on every one of these topics. But Trump is quite capable of holding his own - or at least pointing out a rigged contest if he isn't allowed to answer the questions as he sees fit.
I predict each candidate will help solidify his base. Their targets are the undecided voters.
