According to last February’s ratings, 93 percent of us are already not watching the Academy Awards. Now Oscar is wondering: How do I whittle down that last 7 percent? Answer: woke quotas.
That thunk you heard coming out of La-La Land on Tuesday was the sound of the Academy grandly planting its face in the sidewalk by announcing it was formally rejecting the pursuit of artistic quality in favor of a byzantine quota system.
Starting with 2024 films, your project can’t even be considered for a Best Picture Oscar unless it meets a set of diversity targets

Why not just make the damned movies to actually entertain moviegoers, make money, and not bother about the Oscars?

I've seen very few ads for movies that would make me pay the price to go into a theater. I do want to see the new Wonder Woman and new James Bond movie. Then John Wick 4 and that's about it. And I swear if they get woke on any of those, that's it. I will never set foot in a theater again.

Except, #3, that channel is owned by Ted Turner, ultra left winger and former husband of Jane Fonda.
The best thing to do is quit Hollywood and television completely. Read a book, do something creative, visit with friends and family.

Hollywood is willfully 'woking' itself into irrelevance...or at least driving away its audiences...just like the NFL.
They should expect a similar result.

The alleged good news is that more people of color will get parts in movies. The bad news is that nobody will go see them and they will all lose money. Hollywood has built a house of toothpicks in a windstorm.

With all the new 'woke' quotas, the chance that well made and entertaining movies do not stand a chance of winning an Oscar. And, it will not end at "B" grade movies and acting getting awards. Anybody, watching will have to endure award winners, who making seven or eight figure incomes, rant about being oppressed.

If they have made any great films in the past 40 years I have missed them.
I decided then not to be propagandized by liberal Hollywood and have not been to a theatre since.
Now this proves how right I was. Today the propaganda is much worse. Do not try to control how I think!

What ever happened to the concept of creating art just for art's own sake? Leave the artist alone and let him/her do whatever they want in the manner of however they are moved. If we (the public) like it --- we applaud, with both our hands and our money. If we don't like it, we boo --- the artist withdraws and might get appreciated somewhere else or at a different time. Now, this form of censorship will lead to crappy art. Just like the drek that came out of Soviet Russian from the 1920's until now!
This basically means not one western, war flick or anything else showing whites doing anything (like "Robin Hood", "Dinner at Eight", "Casablanca", etc.) will ever be made again.

I haven't watched a new movie in 5 years or a new tv show in 3 years. And that will not change in the future. I watch old tv shows on free services like Pluto and I have a sizable collection of 1980's movies on DVD.
Hollywood can keep their b.s. preachy (and bad) shows and movies.

Actually I'm looking forward to the coming remakes of some of the classics to see how the new reality is portrayed, and by whom. Well, like the following scripts in development I understand.
"Gone With the Woke" - a heart-wrenching epic of white liberals being driven from their pastoral marijuana and arugula plantations around Portland by the very same revolutionaries they were yelling out to: "Dude, we're on your side!" as the flames enveloped them. The classic ending rings even truer today: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."
"Whiteboard Jungle" - the classic urban teen movie in which a cool, black Critical Race Theory teacher tries to help unruly gangs of white Advanced Placement Calculus students somehow, finally overcome their white privilege flaws, like perfectionism, always being on time, getting A+ on every single test, inventing really awesome gadgets that everyone wants to buy, and becoming gazillionaires before they reach puberty.
"Socialist Network" - a documentary remake of Mark Zuckerberg's true development of Facebook from a goofy site for bored people to show and discuss inane, narcissistic pictures and details of their worthless lives into a corrosive, viewpoint-censoring, and thought-controlling network designed to impose a stifling leftist government. The founders of Google and Twitter make cameo appearances to basically say, "Same here." Not funny. But documentaries never are.

Diversity targets are great. I think we should applaud this effort---and demand that all former winners return their Oscars at once and publicly apologize. I want to hear one sob story after another, while the American public takes a knee before each and every film shown in a movie theatre. Allow movie fans to bring their sledgehammers to demolish the Walk of Fame. Rename the demolished area The former Walk of Shame. Topple all statues of Hollywood celebrities and set the Hollywood sign ablaze. Board up Universal Studios immediately and demand reparations from the shamefully unwoke who enabled sexist Harvey Weinstein and his ilk to continue their predatory careers.
That's a start, anyway.

With Hollywood's new quota for black producers, writers and actors where will Clooney, DiCaprio and the cry baby go to make movies they're unemployed in La La Land. Will Italy or Spain be the next 'white' Hollywood. We will find out from TMZ eventually. Who really cares I certainly don't because I don't view anything but old old classics.

Are these jackasses crazy? This is one of the STUPIDEST ideas I have ever heard. Toss out the quality of the production, the poetic dialogue, the panoramic visual beauty, the intensity of the drama and the other things that make a film great (Casablanca, The Deer Hunter, To Kill a Mockingbird, and a host of others) and LET'S POLITICIZE WHAT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE POLITICIZED. Rather than "art for art's sake" and let's go with Hollywood liberals and "crap for crap's sake. If ever I wondered why I haven't seen a movie in twenty plus years, I guess I now have an answer.

It's bad enough that so many TV commercials now feature only black people. Pandering at it's worst!
The problem for the marketing people is that I recognize the political drive behind this pandering, and I change channels when I see such a commercial.
I feel bad for black people that see this too, and recognize they are being pandered to. It really reinforces the fact that the left uses blacks as pawns.

It looks like the Hollywood Leftists get to live by the rules they wanted to impose on everyone else. It’s hard for them to complain about that. The Oscars have hereby been reduced to participation trophies for movies no one has seen. Awesome.

Hollywood continues to commit suicide.
Remember when movie theaters and big marquees were a standard sight in any size city? I drove across a good bit of America in late 2018. Rarely rarely did I see signs of a movie theater. I don’t call those tidgy type rooms with a big TV screen a movie theater, either.
I did see where SAG members are beginning to object to the new Oscar rules. Its about time!

We keep being told the woke stuff will backfire, but we keep getting more of it. It seems to have taken over everything: entertainment, news, sports, education, restaurants, businesses. The Republicans are perpetually outraged by the behavior of the leftists, but the left sets all the rules, and the Republicans do nothing about it, except I suppose, stay at home. We can pretend not to buy the products, but we have to buy something, and all businesses are now woke.

#29, I'm sure you've heard the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Well, Hollywood is going 'woke', and it won't get fixed until it goes 'broke', which will probably take a while.
I haven't watched Oscar in years, I think the last one I watched (on tape) was hosted by Billy Crystal,
so they won't miss me. However, there are plenty more people left to boycott not only Oscar, but Hollywood in general.

A reply to #22, It is true that there are more commercials with black people in them. I remember how after the Civil Rights movement of the 60's, there were suddenly commercials on TV with black actors. It was always noticeable because of it's newness. Which brings me to this comment on your posting.
I do not recall back in the 60's and 70's any backlash happening from the so-called privileged white folks or from white supremacists. This flies in the faces of idiots who claim all whites are privileged and racist. It has taken a longer time for Asian faces to make it into commercials. Yes, we do now see Asians in commercials. This is progress, and proves that minorities are actually fully integrated into society and represented in everyday life in our commercials. So, the claim that they are not given opportunities to advance in society are overblown, IMHO.
I think the one true problem that blacks face is the so-called 'driving while black' complaint. Black citizens do actually experience more stops by police for ID checks. However, if our news media were honest, they would point out the reason for this phenomenon is the higher incidence of law-breaking by members of the black community. LEO's are certainly not going to stop a white or Asian person if they are looking for a black man who just committed a crime.

I care nothing for today’s movies, haven’t been to one in a long time. I feel contempt for most celebrities and think them utter fools. I used to enjoy going to movies now and then, but they have slowly eroded the specialness of it all. The Oscars used to be fun, now they are disgusting. And who cares about what they think about anything, as they insist on lecturing we lessers? At this point Hollywood has ruined their brand for good, and evidently they are still too stupid to realize this. And we know you can’t fix stupid.

There is nothing new in Hollywood anymore, even making Scarlett O’’Hara and Rhett Butler black, and the idea of “going to the movies” will soon be as archaic as going to the mall. Wide-screen TV’s, rich sound delivery and beautifully written, staged, filmed, recorded and acted made-for-TV movies are abundant. Plus, the snacks are reasonably priced and you can actually have real butter on your popcorn for about 1/6th the price. Plastic surgeons, orthodontists, antibiotics and hygienic living make “movie star good looks” more commonplace. Judging by the number of various actors, directors, screenwriters and other creatives’ names I see on all sorts of projects there must not be a shortage of talent. Paying someone like Tom Cruise millions for pictures made sense 30 years ago but nowadays Pete Mitchell or Ethan Hunt could be video game action creations and almost as realistic in appearance as an actor. So the newest and most desperate advertising ploy is to make it seem socially unacceptable to ignore Hollywood and its films. It won’t work. The Oscars are irrelevant and boring.

All the big budget movies are being made for China anyway. The decision is economic because their movie viewing public is huge and the CCP has major investments in studios. No more Chinese villains or support of Tibet.
Last two movies I went to were Ford v Ferrari and then Midway, which was excellent until the obligatory China insert.
