Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that he is OK with states going bankrupt instead of increasing federal bailouts even further—as Democrats demand more money for state and local governments be included in the next coronavirus relief bill. 'My guess is their first choice would be for the federal government to borrow money from future generations to send it down to them now so they don't have to do that,' McConnell lamented.(Snip) He also insisted, however, that he didn't want to send money to states just to have them used the money to bail themselves out of preexisting issues, like a pileup of pension debts.

It is NOT the Federal government's (i.e. taxpayers') job to bail out states who continuously mismanage their funds. States should have been trying to get a handle on their budgets decades ago. Instead, they throw away money on pet projects, overhire for government and bureaucratic jobs, funnel favoritism to their corporate buddies who send special perks and kickbacks to the politicians, etc., etc., etc. Its time to pay the piper and for voters to wake up. Stupid people are constantly voting for more bond issues (not thinking they will be taxed to pay for them) and voting.for Democrats who promise them the world as if it will all be free. I want to see all those states get their comeuppance. Then, maybe voters will realize how stupid they have been.

The states brought it on themselves, or at least their dhimmicrat governors did. All they have to do is cancel their Stalinista emergency orders immediately and let us fix what they broke.

Mitch is right. We don't have money to sustain the shutdown. The longer it goes, the worse it will get. Mitch's decision reflects that. There is only one choice: GET BACK TO WORK.

Why should fiscally prudent states bail out union, goon inflated public employee pensions? In Illinois I know personally a high school gym teacher who makes $200,000 a year in RETIREMENT. Does the moronic media know that is who they are advocating for?

Out of work private sector middle class (who do not get pensions) are not required to pay for crooked unions to pay because they over promised and mismanaged the budget. Plenty of private sector businesses go bust
and its too bad for their employees. There is never a hue or cry or them to be bailed out.

Most people dont' want to stay around in these blue states and pay exorbitant taxes to finance pensions to the civil servants who made their lives miserable during their working lives. Much better to get out and go someplace else and let other people pay those bloated six and seven figure pensions.

YES! YES! Absolutely No Relief Funds for PENSIONs. Failing pensions are direct consequences of gross financial mismanagement and CORRUPT union GREED. It has NOTHING to do with COVID - 19!!!

Good, but what about stimulus money that went to the likes of The Kennedy Center, Harvard, and Ruth Chris Steakhouse? How are you getting that back?

What a welcome breath of fresh air. These lowlife politicians that have allowed the unions to obtain unattainable, unreasonable pensions at the cost of the taxpayer are trying to cover their butts for their mismanagement of the funds. If the funds are not self
sustaining they shouldn't be.

#18 - Trump.and Mnuchin both said they directed those companies to return the money. They were not processed according to proper guidelines. The funds were only supposed to be for small businesses.. No money should have gone to publically traded companies or entities with access to other funding options. If they don't return the funds right away, they will face stiff penalties.

Mitch is right. Why should federal taxpayers have to bailout state pension packages when it was the demonrats who pumped up the benefits to get a vote, then refused to adequately fund that same pension?

By the way, I added up those amounts given for SB, special SBs, hospitals, and testing in the latest bill and they added up to $481. The bill's total was $484. Where did the $3 billion difference go to? More Piglousi pork for demonrat voters?

We can't afford this stimulus any longer. The small businesses are the backbone of this country. States that mismanage their petitions, etc are on their own. It's the blue states that are in very bad shape. Let them crash and burn, let them NOT pay their legislators, mayors, governors, state workers, etc. Let their bonds go to hell. They will need cash and they can't raise taxes on people that are not working and can't pay.
