On April 4, 1917, the U.S. Congress declared war on Germany. Two days before, President Woodrow Wilson addressed legislators, admitting that only they could plunge America into what amounted to a continental abattoir, daily consuming Europe’s best and brightest.
It was a fateful decision. The U.S. entered an imperial slugfest of little interest to Americans, killing 117,000 of America’s finest overseas and murdering civil liberties at home. Worse, Washington’s entry radically disrupted the continental balance of power, yielding a treaty that operated as a truce, turning into a far worse war only a generation hence. Although highly regarded by some academic histories, Wilson’s record puts him in competition

Wilson was a typical "I'm-smarter-than-you" lib. He also instituted income tax.

He signed the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
He and his ideological successors are responsible for the USA being $24 T in debt.
Ivory tower liberal.
Set the stage for WWII.
His wife Edith was de facto president for much of his second term.
One of the worst of our presidents.

In terms of total damage done - - both contemporary and future - - the vile racist Wilson was by far the worst.
And WWI was not the worst of it - - the income tax, the Federal Reserve, and big government still haunt us more than 100 years later.
FDR was a commie tool - - LBJ was a corrupt authoritarian - - Jimmuh Carter is an idiot - - Master B. Clinton is a pervert - - Little 0bie is a lying commie - - but none of them did as much permanent damage as Woodie.

No wonder that Wilson is so admired by democrats! He would be their first choice for 2020, if he were alive today!

Everything this guy says about Wilson is true. Never elect an academic to the presidency because this is what you may get. However, the author ignores the very real casus belli that the US had for going to war. Unrestricted German U-Boat warfare threatened to end American trade with the allies, which had soared from $825 million in 1914 to $3.2 billion in 1916. This generated a booming US prosperity. Honest people may disagree upon whether it's worth going to war to preserve a nation's prosperity, but the effect of giving up this trade would have been a steep depression.

As much as I despise Wilson, he did not start WW I. They Europeans did it all on their own. Where Wilson went off the rails was forcing countries to become democracies. Germany would have been better off with the Hohenzollern monarchy (booting out Kaiser Wilhelm in favor of his son) rather than the weak governments which spawned Adolph Hitler.

WWI and WWII combined pretty much destroyed the genetic make up of Britain for generations. When you destroy the best and brightest men of a smallish island nation like UK in such large proportion, you will have consequences that are far reaching. Kind of explains the current British population's liberalism too. Most of the spine of that nation died in those two wars.
Kind of wondering now after reading this and all the comments here, if the DNC isn't resorting to playing the Wilson handbook right now. Certainly the Bush family has been. Glad Trump tore that globalist plot out by the roots, especially when he helped the Saudi king and his heir purge the globalist princes and military officers from their ranks. The Bushes knew most of those men. There is a lot of reason for the globalists to love Wilson with the same passion as they hate Trump.

The supreme arrogance of Prof. Wilson initiated the Federal Income Tax on citizens across the land to pay for his war in Europe.

What a horrible president he was! I've been told my family is somehow distantly related ... haven't found the connection yet ... nor do I care to.

Stories like this are why everyone should be a registered rat voter. I am absolutely serious. Make them spend resources to remind you who to vote for. Make them overconfident. Vote for their weakest candidate in primaries and then when it counts vote straight R or conservative if possible. I get nothing from the NY Republican party so bit by bit I chip away from the inside or the rat party.
Wilson is another poster child for the rats and his successors are no better. In fact I have yet to see a rat in office at any level who is a normal person and not an opportunistic liar.
