Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has filed a lawsuit against Walton County in Florida, and their Sheriff’s Office, for threatening to arrest him and his neighbors if they use their private beaches.
Huckabee teamed up with several other residents to file a federal complaint over a county ordinance that closed all beaches, including the ones on private property, which they contend stops them from “being able to use or even set foot in their own backyards.”
The lawsuit was filed on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida and argues that their constitutional rights are being violated by the social distancing orders. They are seeking an injunction

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said Thursday she will temporarily banish cars from residential streets throughout the city, opening more space for pedestrians and bicyclists to use the roadways for exercise during the coronavirus stay-home order.
“Because of the reduction in car traffic we will be closing off a number of streets, so that bicyclists and pedestrians can spread out and exercise and take in fresh air safely,” Schaaf said during a virtual town hall Thursday evening.

Under normal circumstances, children in the NICU, who are often born premature or with serious medical issues, spend their days with hospital staff and their parents who are required to go through many sanitation and health protocols before contacting their infants.

MILAN – A bridge on a normally busy provincial road in northern Italy collapsed on Wednesday but with virtually no traffic during the coronavirus lockdown, only two truck drivers suffered minor injuries, the fire brigade said.
A spokesman for the fire brigade said the 260-meter (853-feet) bridge on the SS330 road near the town of Aulla, roughly midway between Genoa and Florence, in the northern tip of Tuscany, collapsed at 10:25 am.

A fierce April snowstorm knocked out power for hundreds of thousands of people in Maine as it swept through the state Friday morning.
The National Weather Service in Caribou said just after 9 a.m. that 32 percent of all power customers — more than 266,000 people — in the state were without power as a result of the storm.
Some areas north of Portland took the brunt of the storm, with more than 7 inches of snow, according to the weather service.
Central Maine Power asked its customers “to be prepared to be without power for likely more than a day.”
“Strong winds and heavy snow overnight have caused numerous outages,” the provider tweeted.

On Thursday, Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit against North Carolina, Mecklenburg County, and Guildford County, alleging that state election officials have failed to clean voter rolls in violation of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
North Carolina, according to its own state data, has nearly one million inactive registered voters on its voter rolls. Likewise, Judicial Watch alleges that Mecklenburg County and Guilford County each have more registered voters on their rolls than the total number of eligible voters in the regions.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced that they will be sending the majority of their workers home on furlough. On Thursday, Senate Democrats nixed a simple but urgent request to boost cash in the emergency small business loan program Congress set up this month from $350 billion to $600 billion.

Rather than comply, Democrats issued demands: They insisted the new money include $60 billion for “community-based lenders” that serve minorities, women, nonprofits and other groups.
It hadn’t occurred to me that the briefings might explain why the small bounce in his job approval after the virus crisis hit had begun to fade. I thought it might be because there’d been more reporting lately about how the feds bungled their initial response to the outbreak.
