A usually level-headed Christian conservative lashed out on Facebook, scolding everyone they thought was not taking the coronavirus seriously enough. Fake news media has successfully infected many with irrational fear. (Snip) CDC data confirms that the martial-law-light mandates steamrolling across America are disproportionate to the threat of the virus.

OP I agree. In a few weeks we'll be asking each other, "Why did we do that?"

Apr 1 - that's the date I gave my daughter for this because she's so worried about it. Too bad the dims politicized this - it's costing people and not just in money.

This is exactly what I told my kids. People will not tolerate this insanity. I gave it two weeks-three max before people absolutely rebel.

An Israeli Nobel Laureate named Levitt has accurately predicted the peaking of this virus, says that the virus will entirely disappear from China by April 1. Other countries will follow suit. Sure enough Wuhan reported March 18 as the first day with no new cases. BTW, this article from the Jerusalem Post was banned by FB as being "against their community standards". Just so you know what is happening out there.

it has already gone on too long. The panic has hurt more people than the virus itself. Millions of people have been hurt financially.

Yes it's silly, over hyped, and dumb. But what can you do? All of this will be good training if the Earth is invaded by Flying Saucers.

I'm "somewhat" playing the game, to go along with the Prez. I'm pretty much staying in, actually you can hang the pictures you've wanted to for awhile...and you can really save some money. I live alone so a six pack of TP will last awhile, and when I go to the store? this gives me an excuse to eat pasta, which I've been trying to lay off. Yesterday was the first day of "maybe I should help out and not go to the gym". But April 1. Like above said...this is gonna shake out.
Tell ya what...if we get a dry day in the 60's before that...the bike is gonna get started up and I'm goin' out.
"Cause...we all know what's going on here.

I'm inclined to believe this is overblown, but a few points otherwise.
The virus is highly contagious and there nay be mutations in the future.
It is worldwide. This is not Just the USA. There is as yet no vaccine for it, and again consider mutation.
While it is certainly disruptive to the US economy it will pass, soon. This is a huge buying opportunity. Invest in American companies.
If this was a Dem administration I might consider it an attempt to find the limits of their power to have people submit to gv't.
Since it is a Trump admin I have no such concerns. This will harm his accomplishments but they will rebound ten fold
America is great and is now an example to the rest of the world. They are paying attention.
The countries hurt worst, China, Italy, Britain, Canada, and others all have single payer Gov healthcare and it is overwhelmed.
We have come to realize that medications and other critical US resources have fallen into the wrong (Chinese) hands.
Wile it's difficult to do, until a vaccine is developed and the current pandemic passes, try to be patient and help your neighbors.

the trouble with a vaccine for a virus is the thing mutates .just like every year the flu shot is literally hit or miss . Drs say this year more a miss , at least in NE . Humans build immune systems , some humans are mire liable to one or other disease. This virus hates blood type A people and the RNA if Chinese folk is more prone to catch it . Genes , environment, etc factors.
.But.. the news today is maybe quinine something is efficacious .. Gin & tonic panic buying soon to begin ? buy lime futures

Right on Mr. Marcus! Deaths unrelated to a Chinese virus will occur during this hysteria created to bring down our economy and our president; for example, how can the suspension of law enforcement in Philadelphia be helpful especially when law-abiding citizens try to protect their property and death or injury results?

The panic mania is already starting, ever so mildly, to decrease. This madness will be over soon; and, I believe people won't fall for it next time. Especially if it happens again soon. It's like hurricanes and mandatory evacuations in the South. At some point, people start to think for themselves and realize their fate is best left in their own hands the majority of the time. Government and media freak people out but they never apologize or say they were wrong when things don't turn out so bad. Better to be prepared than sorry you weren't is all we ever get. And, who can argue with that?

What makes the pandemic so dangerous is that is spreads based on a power law function. This means that things don't look too bad for most of the time until suddenly they explode with the last few doublings. The social distancing strategy that is being employed is based on mathematical models that are very good at predicting how a disease spreads based on the number of contacts and the probability of infection. The most significant factor is to quarantine anyone who is in contact with a family member or other person who has been confirmed as having the virus.
If the strategy works it will look like everyone overreacted after the fact. What you can't see is what would have happened if we hadn't applied the extreme strategy early. The only graph that matters is the slope of the cumulative number of cases. When this flattens you know you have beaten the virus.

My adventure at Publix
When I got to Publix this morning, about 7:45, (they open at 8 now) there was a line 3 deep and at least 200 feet long. It took 10 minutes to get into the parking lot.
Once they opened, everyone poured in like it was a Christmas $1.00 sale at Walmart. By the time I finally got in, the line had moved to the paper products aisle and it was empty within minutes. I did manage to grab a package of napkins which was on my list.
Then I moved to the dairy area to get my wife some half & half which we need badly. There were only 3 left and no milk. I took only one.
Next, I went to the bread aisle for hamburger buns. I got the last package and they were the smaller slider buns.
From there I fought my way up to the meat counter for a couple of steaks and a package of pork chops. Same scenario. However, I did manage to score. Hamburger meat and all the chicken was all gone.
It is now about 8:15. Needing bananas, I went to the vegetable section. This is one area that was almost normal. Plenty of veggies.
I then had all I really came for so I battled my way around to see what was going on. People were crazy! Whole carts with nothing but meat, dairy or paper products.
It was then that I figured out what was happening.
Whole families/neighbors were getting in line before daylight. Each rushing to an area of the store and filling up the baskets with their designated item. Example: Each member of a group of 4 would grab 8 of the "limit is 2" items they were assigned first and then fill the rest of the basket with things that had no limit that they were also assigned. Then they would meet and split it all up before checking out individually.
I actually watched one group do this! They were really proud of themselves.
People have gone stark raving MAD!!!

Thanks to our Texas Gov for doing nothing. Keep it that way. Many of the chains have been social justice warriors and politically correct by shutting their stores. It is a good time for small businesses to keep their stores open. I am done with the coronavirus already, and am moving on with life. Anyone wanting to sit, go ahead, but I am bored with that.

The Head Homosexual in Denver decreed that all bars and restaurants had to close for 30 days. It was called an “executive order” - I’m still wondering where his authority to do that came from. I must have missed the declaration of martial law.
This is nonsense. I give it three weeks before people start saying “to hell with this” and resume their normal lives.

Have been shocked that businesses were ordered to close. How does that work? We’re not free at all, it’s only an illusion. Trump needs to make sure this overreaction is studied and never repeated.

According to the CDC......... The number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the US as a percent of the number of flu cases confirmed in the US now stand at 4.2% (9,464/222,522). The percent of deaths from the coronavirus to deaths from the flu is 0.7% (155/22,000).
In other words the normal flu( flu virus that is with us every flu season) has killed 22,000 Americans since 9/19 compared to 155 deaths from the coronavirus in the same time period.
Yes, the world has gone mad.

Also agree with original poster - 2 weeks, tops. By the end of next week people will look around and realize that they know of not a single person who has contracted the virus. They will walk outside into the sunshine (as it will be Spring), and they will realize this has been severely overblown.

I am on record as predicting that within 2 to 4 weeks Americans' patience with this social distancing situation will reach its limit and they'll begin demanding that we get back to our normal lives. Given the scene yesterday on Florida's beaches, we may be getting closer to that breaking point than we expect.
