The front of Sunday's Outlook section in The Washington Post is a complete spit take. There in bold type is the blatantly false headline "Barack Obama, conservative." David Swerdlick is an employee of the Post's Outlook section, so this isn't some freakish freelancer. At first glance, this article seems like an obvious ploy to explain away just how radical the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates are by comparison. Here's the thesis: “This is still a country that is less revolutionary than it is interested in improvement.”That remark helps explain why so many of the candidates’ proposals seem so far to the left of Obama.

The United States and China are rapidly building space warfare capabilities as part of a race to dominate the zone outside Earth’s atmosphere.
Air Force Gen. John W. Raymond, commander of the Pentagon’s new Space Command, said last week that the threat of attacks against vital American satellites is real.
“I can tell you from my perspective, the scope, scale and complexity of that threat is alive and well and very concerning,” Gen. The media seem not to have watched the impeachment hearings: they stopped paying attention the moment the witnesses’ prepared statements were leaked and the Democrats’ talking points were posted.
Nor did many journalists bother to read the transcripts of the witnesses’ depositions in the earlier, closed-door hearings.
Partly that was because Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) rushed the public hearings before some of the most important transcripts were ready. Partly that was because the sheer length of the transcripts — hundreds of pages each — was daunting for journalists working on deadline.

Millennials aren’t interested in participating in the office “Secret Santa,” according to a new study by the British job-hunting website, Jobsite, because the practice is “stressful” and anxiety-inducing. “Secret Santa” is, of course, a regular practice among work colleagues during the holidays. It’s often preferred to other practices because organizers can limit the budget spent on gifts, and it doesn’t align with any specific religious holiday, so it doesn’t leave anyone out of the loop (though, of course, jolly ol’ St. Nick is identified with Christmas).

Within the only impeachment resolution put forth by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to open an “impeachment inquiry” the resolution outlined a process. With only eight legislative days left in 2019; and considering the resolution as adopted; the calendar doesn’t match the democrat talking points. Here is a walk through of the timeline:Congress returns from the Thanksgiving break on December 2nd and recesses again on December 12th. That leaves eight days in December to accomplish all the House tasks.
Democrats have said they anticipate an impeachment vote in mid-December, but a review of the House impeachment resolution calls for a transfer from HPSCI “inquiry” (Schiff) to HJC “investigation” (Nadler)

Here’s my slam-dunk choice for the Quote of the Year: “I want a trial.”The President of the United States said that Friday morning, and his title alone would be reason enough to make it the most significant thing said in 2019. But there’s much more to it because Donald Trump’s demand highlights the historically unique set of circumstances he and the nation face in 2020. As of now, the new year will feature an impeachment trial in the Senate followed by the presidential election. If Trump survives Democrats’ effort to remove him, he would be the first impeached president to face voters again.

One of the most useful defenses against surveillance is countersurveillance, "the process of detecting surveillance devices, including covert listening devices, visual surveillance devices as well as countersurveillance software to thwart unwanted" monitoring by someone else. For the last 56 years, this time in November has been an occasion—at first pious and lachrymose, latterly perfunctory—to commemorate the assassination of John F. Kennedy. That event was certainly a cultural cataclysm. America was a changed place after November 22, 1963.
But for all the reams of commentary that event elicited, there is one irony that has not perhaps been sufficiently appreciated. Although the president’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was a rabid Communist, the murder was almost instantly reframed as an expression of right-wing hatred.
I say that this irony has not been sufficiently appreciated. I do not mean that it hasn’t been pointed out.

As the Democrat impeachment farce concluded its meltdown in the House Intelligence Committee this week, it’s clear Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and company think we’re idiots.
Schiff claims he doesn’t know the identity of the political-operative-masquerading-as-a-“whistleblower” while other Democrats insist that hearsay is sometimes more relevant than first-hand accounts. (Ponder that one in the context of proposed red-flag gun laws. Who in his right mind would ever give these people the power over their natural rights?)
All the while, witness after witness made it clear there was no quid pro quo, no bribery, no nothing of anything at all. Just a lot of discomfort with President Trump’s departure from the “interagency consensus.”

In the 1986 remake of “The Fly,” Jeff Goldblum plays Seth Brundle, a scientist who changes into a mutant man-fly after his DNA is contaminated in a failed experiment.
As he descends into the madness of his fading humanity, Brundle announces, haltingly through his catastrophe of a fly-mouth, that his failure will be redeemed. He will be the first “insect politician.” Redemption never comes, and the only genuinely human decision Brundle makes from thereon is to kill himself.
The United States Civil Service, sometimes called the “administrative state” or “deep state,” is supposed to be professional. It ought to be apolitical, like an ant colony or beehive, serving a queen,

The story is told of two women from rabbinic families who came recently to Shaarey Zedek Congregation in Southfield, Michigan to discuss Jewish peoplehood. They are tied together by the synagogue, an institute, and the Conservative movement.
Shaarey Zedek is a storied congregation. When it was founded in 1861, most Jews in America had come from Germany, where Judaism was rapidly moving toward Reform. As the nineteenth century unfolded, worshipers who favored a more traditional liturgy were breaking off to form what would come to be known as Conservative synagogues. Not Orthodox, not Reformed — something in between.

One of the biggest, and most consequential, debates in science is the question of whether the universe, and the life it harbors, are intelligently designed, or whether we all exist only by random chance. Many minds far greater than mine have debated the matter pro and con for years. I have the audacity to propose a simple theorem that will put the matter to rest. Here it is:
Randomness can operate only within nonrandom parameters.
The truth of that utterance is manifold, and its implications are all-embracing. Acceptance or rejection of that simple statement decides whether we, as a society, accept moral principles

Hawthorne Abendsen is a subversive filmmaker and title character in the critically acclaimed television series The Man in the High Castle, the dark vision of an America occupied by Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan following the victory of the Axis powers in World War II, based on a novel by Phillip K. Dick.
Finding Abendsen and every copy of his work is the obsession of the American Reich because his films document a dangerous alternate reality: a parallel universe in which the Allies win the war and domestic life unfolds as we’ve known it, with all the competing passions of representative democracy and pleasures of individual liberty --

Shakespeare made famous the phrase "There is a tide in the affairs of men" ("Julius Caesar," Act IV, Scene III), that acknowledges that certain situations gain momentum and become ripe for influencing the future, determining fate. Certainly, we are living in such a time — momentous, unprecedented events are happening that will affect the direction of our nation for the foreseeable future. After all the Sturm und Drang of the impeachment efforts of the Resistance that have divided the country for the last three years, Attorney General William Barr recently gave two speeches that were rhetorical masterpieces. The speeches could not have been given

More Virginia counties declared “Second Amendment Sanctuary” status this week in an effort to get ahead of the gun control promises from Gov. Ralph Northam (D) and newly-elected Democrats.
On November 19, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Appomattox County Board of Commissioners passed a “Second Amendment Sanctuary” resolution, with the goal of opposing any efforts that would “unconstitutionally restrict gun rights.”
WHSV 3 reports that Giles County and Dinwiddle both adopted “Second Amendment Sanctuary” resolutions on November 21, 2019.

Special Adviser to the President Pam Bondi told Breitbart News that as Americans head home for Thanksgiving dinners with their families, the country needs to know how Democrats have abandoned helping solve Americans’ problems in favor of pursuing an increasingly unpopular impeachment agenda.
In fact, all year, Democrats have failed to help Americans on healthcare, infrastructure, jobs, and security. They have zero legislative accomplishments since taking the House majority but are instead obsessed with impeachment.

What a relief it is turn away from the maelstrom of American politics, and the endless speculation over whether Donald Trump asked for a quid pro quo in the hope of generating negative coverage about Joe Biden, to the placid backwater of Israeli politics, and the endless speculation over whether Benjamin Netanyahu asked for a quid pro quo in the hope of generating positive coverage about himself.
How refreshing it is to stop wondering whether the Ukraine-impeachment circus is merely an attempt to reverse the voters’ decision and spin the 2020 election by replacing democracy with judicial process,

Pete Buttigieg’s polling strength is, as far as I can tell, based on one factor only: He’s a smooth talker. He speaks the kind of fluent Ivy League-technocrat-consultancy lingo that makes a certain kind of highly educated white liberal’s heart melt, especially when combined with an appealing sense of reasonableness and youthful, forward-thinking optimism. Alas for him, he can’t talk much about the wonderful improvements he made as two-term mayor of South Bend, Indiana, because they aren’t there.
James Freeman of the Wall Street Journal, notes that South Bend has an extremely high crime rate for a city its size and that a recent program to provide housing

Shrinking violets don’t become presidential contenders. Still, even at the highest level of overweening ambition, Elizabeth Warren stands out. She has clawed her way to the top by hook and by crook. One of her favorite techniques is the bald-faced lie. As an academic, she is best known for an article claiming that medical crises are largely responsible for personal bankruptcies. Warren’s article has been used (as she no doubt intended) to promote socialized medicine, but it has been thoroughly debunked. See Gail Heriot’s analysis in the Texas Review of Law & Politics, embedded below.
Warren’s deeply flawed, if not outright deceptive, article on “medical” bankruptcies largely made her academic career.

BRUSSELS — Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, was uncharacteristically furious. At a dinner to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, she huddled with President Emmanuel Macron of France, who had just given an interview in which he cited the “brain death” of NATO and wondered whether its commitment to collective defense still held.
Mr. Macron had also been the sole leader to veto the start of lengthy membership talks for North Macedonia to join the European Union, despite Skopje’s having done everything Brussels had asked of it, including changing the country’s name.

As Australia experiences record-breaking drought and bushfires, koala populations have dwindled along with their habitat, leaving them “functionally extinct.”
The chairman of the Australian Koala Foundation, Deborah Tabart, estimates that over 1,000 koalas have been killed from the fires and that 80 percent of their habitat has been destroyed.
Recent bushfires, along with prolonged drought and deforestation has led to koalas becoming “functionally extinct” according to experts.

An earlier essay on today’s dueling accusations of government-sponsored opposition research described past examples of the practice, including how members of the Watergate Special Prosecution Force (WSPF) had assembled investigatory files on all potential GOP presidential candidates going into the 1976 election: John Connally, Gerald Ford, Nelson Rockefeller, Robert Dole, and even Ronald Reagan. I concluded by asking if such abuse of process stretched back even further.
Today’s essay answers that question by citing a multitude of examples from the 1960s, each lovingly documented by FBI testimony before the Church Committee.
Some background on the Church Committee is in order.

Elon Musk announced that Tesla already received 146,000 Cybertruck pre-orders just over a day after they unveiled the electric pickup truck to mixed reviews.
The Tesla Cybertruck has been polarizing, to say the least.
Many people didn’t like the radical design of the electric pickup truck, but most agree that the specs and price are impressive.
Right after the unveiling on Thursday night, Tesla started taking reservations for the truck with a $100 deposit.
Today on Twitter, CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the automaker received 146,000 Cybertrucks reservations after the first day:

The goal of the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other Democratic Party leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives has been to use the impeachment inquiry to destroy President Donald Trump. They hope to impeach him, followed by conviction and removal from the U.S. Senate. Otherwise, they believe he will be so politically damaged that he will resign before the next election. Ironically, the exact opposite political result is occurring.
The past two weeks, the nation was subjected to partisan impeachment hearings orchestrated by House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA). The process has been unfair to not only House Republicans but also to the target of their investigation, President Trump.

The mainstream media is trying to "diminish" the president's claims that Justice Department (DOJ) Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz's upcoming report on alleged FISA abuse will be "historic," former Chairman of the House Oversight Committee and Fox News Contributor Jason Chaffetz said Saturday.
Appearing on "Fox & Friends: Weekend" with hosts Pete Hegseth, Ed Henry, and Rachel Campos-Duffy, Chaffetz said that it is no coincidence that after the president's exclusive interview on "Fox & Friends" Friday, "less than eight hours later New York Times and Washington Post almost simultaneously within the hour come out with a story trying to diminish what the president was saying."

An 18-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of an Alabama sheriff was taken into custody shortly after midnight Sunday following a nearly four-hour manhunt, according to reports.
William Chase Johnson, who authorities said earlier had driven off in the sheriff's vehicle after the 8:15 p.m. shooting -- with the vehicle found a short time later -- returned to the crime scene with a firearm in his hand and surrendered, AL.com reported.
Fatally shot Saturday evening was Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams Sr., known as "Big John," a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who had been sheriff in the community near Montgomery, the state capital, for nearly a decade.

As Prince Andrew stepped out of the trendy Hollywood eatery Catch, accompanied by two blonde women and a clutch of suit-clad men, the paparazzi descended like flies. It was May 2017, and it was the last time the controversial royal was seen in public in the US. (Snip) At the tail end of a disastrous week — in which he gave the BBC a car crash of an interview about his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and was then effectively sacked from the royal family by his mother, Queen Elizabeth — the prince is now responsible for his own extravagant life.

A severely colorblind Minnesota boy landed somewhere over the rainbow thanks to a pair of special eyeglasses.
Jonathan Jones, 12, burst into tears when he got a chance to borrow the unique eyewear, which allows the user to see color.
The seventh-grader and his peers at Lakeview High School were learning about colorblindness when Jones’ principal, Scott Hanson, who is also severely colorblind, allowed Jonathan to borrow his special glasses. The boy’s brother recorded video of the exchange.
“They’re all yours, let’s see what it does,” Hanson told the boy, handing him the glasses.
Jones swaps his traditional eyeglasses for the new pair, which look like sunglasses with an iridescent sheen, the video shows.

It was evident several weeks ago that U.S. chargé d’affaires to Ukraine, Bill Taylor, is one of the current participants in the coup effort. It was Taylor who engaged in carefully planned text messages with EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland to set-up a narrative helpful to Adam Schiff’s political coup effort. Bill Taylor was formerly U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine (’06-’09) and later helped the Obama administration to design the laundry operation providing taxpayer financing to Ukraine in exchange for back-channel payments to U.S. politicians and their families.
Today Rudy Giuliani has released a letter to Senator Lindsey Graham outlining how Bill Taylor has blocked VISA’s for Ukrainian ‘whistle-blowers’ who
