Shaving company Gillette says it is “shifting the spotlight from social issues to local heroes,” after the company’s brief foray into the SJW-style demonization of masculinity drew a massive backlash from customers. The company landed itself in hot water last year when it ran a #MeToo-themed ad borrowing language from far-left anti-male feminists, depicting the abuse of women by men and encouraging male Gilette customers to “shave their toxic masculinity.” Other attempts to demonstrate the company’s “woke” credentials included an ad showing a dad teaching his transitioning female-to-male child how to shave.

Anyone know an alternative to Tide that isn't heavily perfumed? I tried Persil but the smell lingered for days...not good.

Gillette's admonition to their customers to “shave their toxic masculinity” has apparently resulted in a severe shave to Gillette's profits but maybe the anti-male feminists will purchase Gillette razors. They likely need them. Gillette sure won't see ME again. I'm SURE that a MEDAL is waiting for the Gilllete employee whose idea THIS stupidity was.

Wasn't CEO Coombe saying the loss was due to "currency fluctuations" and men growing beards?
And didn't Coombe say the loss was "worth paying" for his woke-ness?
Well, keep paying, Mr. Coombeya. I changed brands; saved money; have no reason to reconsider.

Back in 2013 Mrs C bought me a safety razor similar to the one advertised by the Pawn Stars guy. It was horrible cheap plastic carp and cut me to ribbons, but it came with 100 Egyptian blades that work just fine. I found an old razor from the 1940's and have been using it ever since. I dont need their overpriced triple edged (or more) razors and when my Egyptian blades run out I'll find something not Gillette.
I am really tired of all this phoney virtue signaling.

I just want a razor to cut my beard, and for decades that razor was Gillette. But this ad did not address a good shave, it was just a "we are your daddy and this is how you need to think so you can 'grow up'". Most offensive. I went with Harry's, got a better shave, and will make it a point to avoid Gillette and any other P&G products that I am aware of.
I would feel better if I were to learn that the snowflake CEO of that company were fired and the ad company forever ostracized, but I still will never return as their customer.

These people making these knuckle headed decisions do so because they honestly believe that everyone thinks like they do. Being leftists virtue signaling social warriors they are confident that theirs is the only viewpoint and, therefore, whatever they feels, they act on which is pure stupidity. The strategy of using a company to virtue signal is just dumb, but we know leftists are not known for their smarts. They will gleefully ruin their brand to make themselves feel superior. Bad business plan because most people in the country aren’t the progressive drones that they are. Thanks for the list, #3. I have taken note and will shop, accordingly.

Everyone is entitled to one mistake and this was a big one. If P&G has learned about the perils of "wokeness" from this debacle then I see no reason to throw the entire corporation overboard. I hope it was also a lesson to other companies out there contemplating similar ideas. All these companies need to keep in mind who ALL their customers are when making these decisions. We'll see whether the lesson was learned.

We started to avoid P&G products about 10 years ago when their commercials made men look like dopes and the 9-year-old child was dispensing words of wisdom. They also have commercials where every member of the family is a different race. How can that possibly happen?

Memo to Gillette: Serves you right for mixing politics with business. Back in the 80's, I realized highly advertised name-brands had priced themselves out of my budget. Store brands were affordable and satisfactory. Then came Aldi's. Their prices are way better than anything any other store carries. Aldi's laundry pods have a plesant smell, but it lingers longer than for Tide pods. Another thing, Aldi's does not put their pods in child-proof containers yet. As an arthritic grandmother, there isn't always a child around who can open those child-proof containers. Lots of people have ineffective washing machines nowadays, and we have the gummint regulators to thank.

The Gillette division of P&G has gone completely bonkers! It is not enough that they have gotten ridiculous with their multi-blade razors (up to five blades and counting). Now they are promoting the propaganda of misandrous radical feminists. That might explain why their product produces ever greater "razor burn" with little to no increase in shaving performance. Any day now, they will come out with a ten-blade razor that will give the mother of all razor burns!

Well let's see if Coombe will stand by his comment "a price worth paying" for his SJW stance when another couple billion is 'shaved' off of P&G profits. When you cater to a 1 percenter over real paying customers you will loose.
I've seen some really dumb ads in the last few years that make me scratch my head and wonder what suppose smart person really made that ad or are they stuck in the third grade concept of silly pranks and jokes. The advertising company and person Gillett hired was a bad choice. When I see an ad with a targeted race or exclusion of white persons I turn away and say I hope they can make their profit off of that group because I'm not in their count for profits and write that product off. Gillett and P&G deserve their losses because the buying public who pay attention just walked away forever.

#1 I agree with #12. I use All as well. Their 'Free and Clear' version is hypoallergenic and has no perfumes or dyes. I switched when I became allergic to the laundry detergent I had been using.
I am sorry to hear that P&G makes Olay, though. I guess I have to find an alternative for their products😞.

I shop at Amazon. I know their politics, and don't care. They don't specifically target their core demographic and demonize them.
I don't shop at Dick's. Hunters WERE part of their core demographic, and they decided they would rather be woke. I won't even walk into their store.
Gillette? They decided to call nearly 100% of their customers garbage. Not buying P&G until they publicly recant and apologize.
I don't really care about the politics of a business. I DO care how a business treats its customers.

Folks, several years ago, I started using Melaleuca products. It's a direct sales company. I am a 'wholesale customer.' My products are sent to my home. There isn't any political alignment with this company. Find a local Melaleuca person to get the details. (I'd be happy to have conversations but that isn't the purpose of this wonderful website.)

Others have recommended All as a substitute for Tide. I'll second that, based on my use of the former when the latter was out of stock. I haven't switched back, and won't. As to Harry's, check their web site, They're as woke as Gillette. My shave of choice is Barbasol: made in the USA, inexpensive, and it works! My blades? The cheap travel blades you'll find 10-packs of at any pharmacy. One pack lasts me at least a year.

#25 I laughed and got some bacca juice up my nose and down my throat.
All these razor companies remind of the old Bill Cosby skit about the razor promoted by the footballer..."that's right Mel, I always use a razor on my face, ... to shave it, Mel...I use it every time, Mel, ... And sometimes when I cannot get this razor, Mel, ... I must use another razor Mel..." Back then, we could laugh about such.
I am off to the store to find a straight razor I can sharpen myself and a pox on these jerk companies...

Thank you #16 you hit the nail on the head for me. When I see an ad from a company attempting to normalize the abnormal, or one that insults / belittles / demeans my (admittedly old-fashioned) values, I think twice about buying what they sell and won't if I can find an acceptable alternative.
How stupid do you have to be to demonize men - your primary customer base? And exactly what the heck is "toxic" masculinity anyway? Toxic to whom? Are they assuming all men are evil just because they are men? Note to Gillette: Just. Sell. Razors.
