Companies that develop drugs will have to go to the Health and Human Services Department (HHS) to be told what they’ll be allowed to charge for their products if Joe Biden is elected president, the former vice president declared Wednesday during the Democrat presidential debate.Biden made the claim while defending his health care plan against the charge that it would not cover everyone in America, adding that his administration would also dictate any price increases: “My plan does cover everyone,

So, basically, you're espousing a Soviet system, and we all know how well that worked out, yeah?

Prescription drug prices are ridiculously high. My son purchases his insulin pens in the Caribbean for 80% less than US prices.
But Joe, you were in the senate for decades and VP for 8 years. All of a sudden this is important to you? You are a fraud.

And to the previous poster... there would be no insulin but for the free economy which produced it. Certainly not the country where you buy your bootleg drugs.

Sounds like an end to efficient and effective innovation in medicine to me. Oh the government would pay for all the research, you say? Would the same government employees who run the DMV and the VA be running the drug research? Cuz we know how successful those places are with regard to efficiency and effectiveness.
Sounds like a recipe for more deaths, less health, and lots of unaccounted-for money being spent. Did I say lazy government employees, too???

Government interference in the markets through their stifling of competition and regulation are part of the problem we experience. And the constitution gives it no authority to do so. And no, that's NOT what the 'commerce clause' meant. Just read what the founders said about it.

So Biden, you set the price of the drugs, are you going to set the price of the labor and material that go into making the drugs? That is what the Office of Price Administration learned under FDR: that once you start setting pricing, you have to set them all---but there are millions of prices, and only thousands of bureaucrats, none of whom know what they are doing.

In other countries Pharmaceutical Companies doesn’t have to play Litigation Roulette like they do here. Every company is sued over and over for every (government reviewed and authorized) product. Shop for a judge, shop for a jury, win big money at the Pharma Lottery! Someone has to pay for that systemic fraud. We are the someone.

And those planned economy committees will determine how much of each drug to produce and the same for all commodities. They’ll outlaw the resulting black markets too. I’m in!!

So Joe, if you set prices for the pharma companies and they can't survive it, what then? If you set prices for prescription drugs, what about medical practitioners? And You're the moderate?

We need to expose all the politicians who are in the pocket of the ''drug companies.'' We pay more for drugs because certain politicians get kickbacks from those companies, for allowing the companies to fleece the citizens.
If our so-called media would do some serious investigating and reporting, we would learn how politicians become multi-millionaires on their government salaries. Of course, those brave media people would be suddenly subjected to an increased rate of Arkancide, er, suicide!

One of the reasons that drug prices are so high is the lawyers and a litigeous society. We so want to be protected from every little booboo that we might get, that in turn causes companies to pass on insurance costs to us the consumer. Throw in the ridiculous advertising costs for some of these drugs and you have a perfect storm for sky high prices. Wanna talk women's birth control? Go to Germany and into one of their pharmacies. European women have so much more in the way of safe OTC choices for their birth control and guess what? They aren't suing anybody either.
Americans need to realize that they are partly responsible for the high prices they complain about, in exchange for the right to take these companies to court at some point in the future. The snowflakes of this country are shooting themselves in the feet and they don't even understand that. So yeah, if you can get your drugs cheaper and they are safe, I say go for it. But do not ever let the government be the controlling factor in drug prices. Because once they start down that road, they will also decide to control the supply and actually WHO gets to have said drug.
