No, the Electoral College isn’t a plot. Yes, it is needed. Without it, the recount in the 2000 election could have gone on forever. Without it, we could never have founded the union, as the small states would have never accepted the loss of their power. Without it, candidates could win by running up numbers among their own backers, whereas now it takes a diverse coalition with backing both deep and wide. This isn’t to say that we haven’t seen oddities, such as for instance in 2016.

Since California had pondered secession before, on the grounds that the country just doesn’t deserve it
Got that right

Not to mention that those 3 million extra votes for Illary match the number of illegal votes cast in the 2016 election. Coincidence? I think not.

The electoral college is designed to prevent the tyranny of the majority. Our government was constructed in a way that would protect the rights of the majority and the minority. We´re not a democracy. The voting public needs to be reminded of that and why it´s important.

Don’t forget it was the States, and the people in them, that formed the federal government....with very limited powers.

It is my belief that Civics should be begun in pre-school to the level children understand civic symbols. In the waay-back machine, 3rd grade learned local history, 4th, American history, 5th world history and 6th international history as it applies to the USA.
Then some warped demon devised the concept of ´´middle school´´ (whatever that is) so that continuity of thought was cut off between a rising student and what thinking that student was capable of.
Jimmy Earl Carter is NO saint for carving education out into its own department away from Health, Education and Welfare.

Let´s allow California to secede and they can continue electing their string of insane, gay, thieving, criminal, socialist, UFO-gazing, scolding, green, racist, bug-eyed, air-headed glitteratti and leave the rest of us alone.
I saw a documentary a few weeks ago where a crooked politician from Los Angeles in the 1930s drained an inland lake, killed a bunch of farmers and destroyed a large ecosystem because LA needed more water. Imagine what they would do today if they had their way.

To anyone arguing that Hillary should have won by virtue of the popular vote; I would say that´s exactly why we have the electoral college. Just picture this; if California made the difference, the rest of the country is effectively disenfranchised.

The problem with California succeeding from the Union is the same problem the Confederate states had in 1860. The Constitution doesn´t provide a procedure for getting a divorce from the other states. Even if it did there are problems with CA exiting. There are numerous military bases in CA. CA would have to have their own post office, currency, etc. This is emotional to a lot of us. But in addition to LA and SF there are lots of good Americans in CA. CA should be a lesson to the rest of us. If we don´t stop illegals streaming into the country this will no longer be our country.

Before I say anything, I want to say that I DID vote for Mr. Trump in the General Election of 2016. That said, I did have reservations about him in the Primary Election that year, so I voted for someone else in the GOP.
Even given my reservations, I believed Mr. Trump was infinitely better than Hillary.
Now in my mind, however, Mr. Trump has gone from better-than-Hillary to REALLY-good-President. The more he gets picked on -- and fights back -- the more I like him. Best of all, his policies are generally the most conservative of any POTUS in years AND make a lot of practical sense.
I don´t always like Mr. Trump´s behavior. But we aren´t voting for saints in an election. AND name anyone and I´ll find I don´t always like their behavior.
Mr. Trump is the right person for America right now and for two terms!

Both Republicans and Democrats just love the Electoral College for the fact that third party candidates are eliminated from consideration. When Ross Perot ran, he got 20% of the popular vote, but 0% Electoral College votes. The Democrats were happy with the Electoral College then because, although Bill Clinton got a minority of the popular vote, he got a majority of the Electoral College vote.
The only reason Democrats wanted to change the rules after the fact is because they lost this time under the same rules that elected Bill Clinton. It did not help that Hillary was a deplorable candidate.

Trying to dump the Electoral College is just another far felt nocturnal emission. It will never happen.

If you read it, try to move past the "dishonest and disliked" comment to get to why Hillary won the popular vote only with help from California.
