The Senate. The Electoral College. The First Amendment. The Second Amendment. The Supreme Court. Is there a part of our constitutional order that the Democrats have not pledged to destroy? There are some Democrats out there in the sticks — a lot of them, in fact — who simply don’t understand the constitutional order. (Snip)Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris went to law school. They understand the American constitutional order just fine. And they hate it. The American order is complex — it is much more sophisticated than “democracy,” which assumes that nothing stands

Certainly a must read-right up to the last paragraph where Mr Williamson accuses the Republicans of being overly concerned about ´defending President Trump´ . I guess I missed that one day when the likes of Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and too many others almost put their parking spots at the trough at risk.

Leave out the negatory comment about Trump, and yes, it is a must read!

The effects of Trump Derangement Syndrome runs very, very deep, apparently. Even an otherwise cogent argument gets co-opted.

"The genius of leaders such as Susan B. Anthony and the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was that their calls to radical change ran against the grain of American society at their time but were perfectly in tune with the American idea and the principles of the American order." Just the opposite is true of today´s would-be reformers!

Had National Review gotten its way in 2016, Hillary Clinton would now be president and yes, she and the rest of the power-mad Dims would indeed be burning it all down.
Is it just me, or is it too odd that NR can publish things like this without ever apologizing for helping the Burn It Downers?

Yes. It´s too bad criminal girly-girl Clinton lost, but these people have taken their annoyance well-past losing the damn 2016 election.
What makes Deep-State Dems think they can get away with this for two years? The Enemedia? Sorry. But that won´t hold up in the court of public opinion.

Good call making this a must read.
In a harsh world where there is no room for mistakes only those who learn not to make mistakes survive. In a softer world where someone else will catch you if you fall you not only survive but live to fall another day.
The left would have you forget how we survived and thrived to create a softer world. The "catchers" are desperately trying to preserve the traditions and legal construct that enabled us to get past that harsh life and those who are continually relying on them for help are tearing it down.

Articles such as this are always harsh reminders of why the 2nd Amendment exists and why we must preserve our right to defend ourselves from the idiocy of the democrats. The fact that we are willing to fight for what we believe in is the only thing holding them back. If we give up our weapons, freedom and everything else that makes life beautiful goes with them.

No item gets published by NR without the obligatory Trump slam.
I will never give a click to that despicable publication.

As Franklin said, "A republic, if you can keep it.". Keeping it means upholding it and preserving it. If the White House, Congress, and SCOTUS all allowed something anti Constitutional to be carried out, WHO would stop it? If enough stupid people exist in the country to vote such people into office, how do you stop it?
"What the Democrats are proposing — abolishing the constitutional protections afforded to smaller states and political minorities, perverting the Supreme Court, gutting the Bill of Rights — amounts in sum to a revolution, replacing our government with a government of a very different character and structure."
I wonder if the Venezuelan people know what they were giving up when they voted in Socialism? I wonder if they have any chance of restoring any form of their previous government?

The President has the authority to declare a national emergency, and to build the wall. The left wing judges know that, and so do the 12 Republicans in the Senate. Insisting on a position, when you know you are wrong is not impressive, and certainly the left and the 12 Republicans do not impress.

The Jihad-wing of the Democrat Party would like nothing more than to create anarchy and revolt. Of course it must occur at the feet of any Republican Administration, only so Dem-Jihadists can propose an "AU" (American Union). much like the fiasco Europe fashioned for itself, placed around its own neck, and is allowing unchecked immigration to tighten, and tighten, and...

I would suggest that 75 percent of the voters are "habitual" - they´re never voting for the other side, those anarchists and silk stocking-ed predators. There are still lots of "New Dealers" out there praying for the next FDR or LBJ. There are lots of "Silent Majority" and "Morning in America" voters, too, blindly trusting systems that has proven untrustworthy, unable to carry the day even when their "conservative" party holds all the centers of Federal power.
Not that it really matters. The Uniparty is the "Burn it down!" crowd.

I would suggest instead of Trump he should have said ´they are more concerned with defending the rights and power of the President´. No need to bring in the 3rd best President ever who doesn´t need and isn´t getting much support in Congress.

National Review never supported the election of Clinton. that is a manichean falsehood.
They did call on conservatives to act rationally and reject a populist demagogue whose lifetime record of dissembling and catastrophic failures had made him a prototype of what conservatives reject epistemologically.
There were too few conservatives in the GOP and too much interference in the selection process by the media and open ballot primaries to select a conservative candidate. Thus, Trump.
He has done some things well, which NR has noted, and other things he has done in the storied tradition of the Trump Shuttle and Stormy Daniels.
Still, NR never endorsed Clinton.

Got an email solicitation from Rand Paul asking for a donation to help a ´true´ Republican conservative get elected because PDT needs all the support he can get, yada, yada, yada. Considering his last back stabbing the President vote, I figured the candidate/ friend was probably another RINO.
