President Donald Trump this weekend called out multinational corporation General Motors (GM) for closing its first of four U.S. assembly plants it expects to shutter this year, urging GM CEO Mary Barra to quickly reopen the plant. Trump called out the automaker and Barra for laying off thousands of American workers and the recent closing of the Lordstown, Ohio, assembly plant. This year, GM announced it would stop production at four of its U.S. plants, including Detroit-Hamtramck and Warren Transmission in Michigan, Lordstown Assembly in Ohio, and Baltimore Operations in Maryland. Trump initially blasted the decision, saying, “This country has

General Motors is staying intact in Mexico but not in the United States. China is ramping up but we are shutting down in the United States. There really is something wrong with that picture.
We have a President who cares about the American citizens first. Unfortunately, the CEO of General Motors cares about other citizens first and Americans last.

We were told this plant was closing in 2015. Why didn’t the guy who was President then stop the closing oh cause Mexico and China would still be working.
And remember how GM took millions in government money to stay afloat. I wouldn’t buy a GM product then and won’t now.

I agree that Trump should slap a Tariff on cars coming IN from a foreign country. Make it a NO WIN for American companies to build the cars overseas and expect to sell them here. Also it has ALWAYS been the case that the UNIONS are behind the companies closing and going to Mexico or China. Shut the UNIONS down!

I´d like to know why Mary Barra thinks that this is in the best interests of the stockholders. If there is something structural within the scope of the legal environment in the US that makes her decision prudent then it´s, Trump´s job, our job to fix it.
If she thinks she´s saving us from ourselves and planet earth, then it´s not our place through our agents in government to stop her. Handing that power to government is everything were fight against.
Executives do stupid things and it´s up to the stockholders to hold them accountable. I have worked for a top 5 company and a a top 25 company and both did incredibly stupid things that were faddish, what the cool kids were doing. But it was their place to do it and executives paid for the consequences. That´s how the free market works.
We owe it to ourselves however, to see to it that we have jobs in a global competitive market and not ask American companies to incur costs our global competition is not saddled with.
We can´t have a free fair market wage and do business with countries that have artificial government imposed restrictions on labor without inadvertently subjecting our people to the same.

From what I have read, Mary Barra is tight with Hillary and that crowd. Open borders, one-world politics, socialist outlook... There is probably more to this than meets the eye. The union supports democrat politicians, and so does Barra, so maybe the rift is for show.

Let it go, Mr. President. GM is determined to drive itself out of business. It should have happened in 2008, but the government saved it. Don’t do it again. Let the “creative destruction” of capitalism work. It will be bought by someone else, who can then make new products that people want to buy, without union labor.

Doorknob Hussein gave GM the money they needed in 2008. GM turned around and used OUR money to fund the bankrupt UNION Pension Funds! Indeed they pulled a fast one against the American people. Wondering how much in KICKBACK was sent to Doorknob Hussein´s offshore account.
