Police in Washington, D.C., rejected requests from campus officials at George Washington University to clear anti-Israel protesters from their campus encampment this week, fearing that doing so could be bad publicity.
Although police were poised to disband the encampment at around 3 a.m. on Friday morning, city officials in the police chief’s and mayor’s office told police to stand down and said that it would look bad publicly for police to disrupt a “small number of peaceful protesters,” the Washington Post reported on Friday. The same city officials know of no immediate plans to clear out the school’s University Yard, which is blocks from the White House, and where the encampment

Where and when I went to school in Texas, they would have simply told us to clear out or you are suspended.

Beyond belief that police would refuse aid because it may make them look bad. To whom - the mayor and the clowns in DC?. It's trespass and disorderly, unless a 'mostly peaceful protest' breaks out.

If the university has rules ALLOWING camping then probably should let them be if they are "mostly peaceful". But if the university has rules FORBIDDING camping then get out the firehouses with skunk spray and let them have it.

I wasn't aware that the job of the police force was to create "good publicity".

Correction. Mayor BowWow told the cops to stand down. Once she gets the J6 folks out of her jails, she can start rounding up the Jews.

Close the school. Send everybody home. Expel any students still on the grounds.
Obviously, the school is no longer under the control of the administration so they should close it since there no longer is any kind of predictable governance of the university. The political police won't do their job and this is just a disaster waiting to happen. Crush it now, with prejudice.

So, our village idiot on the street corner every weekend with his "stop bombing palestine" sign pitches a tent on my front lawn and starts waving it from there at passing traffic. I call the police but they tell me it's okay as long as he remains peaceful?

Police get paid to protect the public from those who break the law.
Refusing to do so is not an option.
Refusing to do so because of bad optics is political activism.

DC police, it's not protect and serve, it is optics.
Kind of like Joe Biden, the buck stops elsewhere.

"The George Washington Police Department (GWPD) provides residential hall security and patrol services to the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses and oversees security at the VSTC campus. The Department also coordinates safety & security for a variety of on-campus special events, including Commencement, Alumni & Families Weekend and visits by dignitaries. In addition to those roles and responsibilities, GWPD provides crime prevention education to the GW community. https://police.gwu.edu/
Looks like this come under the heading 'this is your mess, you clean it up."

Here’s a solution. GWU should end classes, close the dorms, send students home, refund their tuition, not pay professors and other campus workers.
Begin a nationwide movement, GWU! The kids have spoken, and the words to the song are, “We don’t need no dedication.”
