WASHINGTON, - The United States may deport migrants to Libya for the first time this week, three U.S. officials said on Tuesday, despite Washington's past condemnation of its human rights practices and harsh treatment of detainees. Two of the officials said the U.S. military could fly the migrants to the North African country as soon as Wednesday, but stressed that plans could still change.
The Pentagon referred queries to the White House. The White House, State Department and Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Hyrum Baquedano-Rodriguez, 26, an illegal from Honduras, had charges, including home invasion and child abduction, dropped in the blue city of Fairfax, Virginia, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced he is now in their custody.
According to Fox News, “Fairfax County police arrested Baquedano-Rodriguez on Nov. 9, 2021, and charged him with three counts of indecent liberties, including exposing genitals to a child and indecent exposure.”
After local authorities dropped a series of his charges, ICE stepped in and arrested Baquedano-Rodriguez, who is now in custody pending removal.
WASHINGTON - The U.S. government will not pay for a high-speed rail line planned between Los Angeles and San Francisco, President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday, citing cost overruns.
The Republican president's administration in February began probing whether to rescind about $4 billion in federal funds awarded to California's High-Speed Rail project. "This government is not going to pay," Trump told reporters during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Voters approved $10 billion for the project in 2008 but the costs have risen sharply and Trump has sharply criticized the effort. The Transportation Department under former President Joe Biden awarded the project about $4 billion.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday that authorities have made one of the biggest fentanyl busts in U.S. history with the seizure of 11.5 kilos of the drug, including 3 million pills.
Bondi said that around 35 kilos of methamphetamine, 35 kilos of meth, 7.5 kilos of cocaine and 4.5 kilos of heroin were also seized along with $5 million in cash and 49 rifles and pistols.

A group of anti-Israel protesters occupied a building at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle on Monday before police in riot gear intervened and arrested at least 30 of them, according to officials.
The protesters occupied an engineering building on campus for hours and demanded that the school divest from Boeing, the large aerospace and defense manufacturer which has a long history with the university.

A 55-year-old Akron woman was arrested May 5 and charged with multiple drug offenses after a raccoon was discovered in her vehicle holding a meth pipe in its mouth, Springfield Township police posted on Facebook.
Officers initially conducted a traffic stop at about 7:15 p.m. after identifying a vehicle whose owner had both an active warrant and a suspended driver's license.
After officers detained the driver, police then discovered a raccoon named "Chewy" sitting in the driver's seat with a meth pipe in its mouth, police reported. Officers further inspected the vehicle after that discovery and ended up finding a "bulk amount" of meth, crack cocaine and three used glass meth pipes.

A man and his dog were killed in a suspected black bear attack in rural southwest Florida, prompting a search for the animal and warnings for residents to stay away from the area, state wildlife officials said Monday.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said the deadly encounter occurred near Jerome, in Collier County, east of Naples and just south of the Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area.
Authorities have not released the man's name or said exactly when the attack took place.
FWC said preliminary information indicates the man and the dog died in the incident, which happened near the intersection of State Road 29 and U.S. 41.
