Hamas and the Politics of Hell

A profound irony of Israel’s latest grim suffering is that the knife- and gun-wielding Palestinian (Hamas-sponsored) terrorists and their leftist cheerleaders in the American academy reveal a deplorable collusion between what ordinarily would be antagonists. The collaborative condemnation by the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee that held “the Israeli regime entirely responsible for” the October 7 slaughter suggests a bewildering collusion between far right and far left: fundamentalist Islamists supported by woke, neo-Marxist radicals.

Comments:

The malignancy of a satanic and radical Islam should be obvious. How is it possible that human beings could be capable of such heinous behavior against humanity.

Many people talk about 'The Left' or 'The Right' as if it were imagined as a straight line laid out on a flat plane, stretching out to infinity in each direction. I have a different image. Imaging a circular band or strap that goes around a very large diameter horizontal-axis cylinder, a pipe lying on it's side. At the top of the band is what one might call 'middle-of-the-road' politics, with conservatives slightly to the right and liberals slightly to the left. Farther away, and on the part where the pipe is curving downward, are the 'hard left' and the 'hard right', either side so locked-in to their philosophy that they will not even listen to a discussion from someone nearer back up toward the center, at the top of the circular band at the top of the pipe. As one goes farther down on each side of the cylinder, the ideas, the feelings, the philosophy becomes more extreme. At the very bottom of the pipe something happens that might seem counter-intuitive, and that is that the extreme left and the extreme right become so similar as to be indistinguishable from each other. I offer as an example the National Socialists, Adolph's group, and their bitter enemies, Antifa, who we are seeing as resurgence of today, here in the USA (Look it up, Antifa still uses the 'two flag' logo that they used in the 1930's.) Bitter enemies, both totalitarian, both unhesitatingly using violence to get their way. "National SOCIALIST' on the so-called 'hard right' and 'Anti Fascist' (the Fascists, of course, were Italian, Mussolini's group) on the 'hard left'....... and not a dime's difference between them, as far as I can tell.

Maui Residents Organizing Their Own Relief

It’s been a week since wildfires on Maui ravaged the island and sent residents streaming into the ocean to avoid the flames. So far, Joe Biden has “no comment” about the casualties and, presumably, he has nothing to say about the massive relief efforts that are surely underway. But are they underway? According to the Wall Street Journal, “State and federal aid is trickling into the region in the wake of the deadliest U.S. wildfire event in over 100 years.” So after a full week, aid is just “trickling in” from FEMA to deal with the destruction of most of the Western part of Maui?

Wildfires in Hawaii − fueled in part by strong winds from a passing hurricane − have forced hundreds of evacuations, caused thousands to lose power, destroyed homes and even sent some residents fleeing into the ocean to escape the flames. County of Maui spokesperson Mahina Martin told USA TODAY on Wednesday that the fires are affecting three areas of the island: Lahaina, a residential and tourist area with a commercial district in West Maui; Kula, a residential area in the inland, mountainous Upcountry region; and Kihei, home to a mix of residential homes, condominiums, short-term vacation rentals and visitor facilities in South Maui.

Michael Polanyi was born at a particularly inauspicious place and time: in Budapest, Hungary, in March of 1891, just as central Europe was heading toward two devastating world wars, economic collapse, and a half-century of communist totalitarianism. On top of this, Polanyi was a Jew who most certainly would have been killed had he not fled to England in 1933.

A special prosecutor found that the FBI rushed into its investigation of ties between Russia and Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and relied too much on raw and unconfirmed intelligence as he concluded a four-year probe that fell far short of the former president’s prediction that the “crime of the century” would be uncovered. [Snip] Instead, Durham’s investigation delivered underwhelming results, with prosecutors securing a guilty plea from a little-known FBI employee but losing the only two criminal cases they took to trial.

It could be a colorful night sky for more than half of millions of people in the northern U.S. as the aurora borealis, or northern lights, could make an appearance in more than half of the country. The possibility of seeing the dazzling display comes after the sun had a solar flare erupt on Friday that was directed toward Earth, according to the NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. As a result, 30 states will have the chance to see the the aurora borealis, stretching from Washington to Maine, and as far south as Kansas, the Space Weather Prediction Center says, as long as weather conditions permit.

Casting aside the "norms" that the Left loudly pined for just a few short years ago, far-Left Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg compelled the former president to appear in a Manhattan court to enter a plea in response to an indictment containing 34 counts of "falsifying business records," which is normally a minor misdemeanor charge. [SNIP] For the American experiment to continue in any form that wouldn't violently sicken our nation's Founders if they were still alive today, those of us in America that aren't batshit crazy need to establish a New Normal where the out-of-control craziness is stopped in its tracks by an even more determined opposing force...

This is soon to be followed by further approval for the sale and consumption of the larval form of Alphitobius diaperionus — also known as the lesser mealworm — which will be given the green light for human consumption in frozen, paste, dried and powder forms within the European Union later this week. The new insect-based products for human consumption represent the latest push by the European Union...

The Biden administration on Thursday announced that it would complete a 20-year withdrawal of 225,504 acres in a northern Minnesota forest area that is home to some of the largest domestic critical mineral reserves. The action announced by the Department of the Interior (DOI) effectively prohibits mining activity from taking place in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Duluth, Minnesota, and surrounding area for the next two decades. The agency said it took the action in an effort to protect the local environment and watershed, which environmentalists worried would be contaminated by mining activity.

To fight pornography in the schools, a Texas housewife recently appeared at a school board meeting. She lectured the officials: "I do not want my children to learn about anal sex in middle school. ... I want you to start focusing on education, not public health." Education, as we'll see, is the first refuge of scoundrels. Do you imagine that this school board is hip and cutting-edge? In fact, liberals have had few new ideas in more than a century. During World War 1, the communist government of Hungary "imposed a system of pornographic sex education on Hungarian school pupils." Ever since, ...

Israel has agreed to delay its impending ground invasion of Gaza until the U.S. can establish air defenses to protect U.S. troops throughout the region. The Pentagon has requested that Israel hold off until they can deploy nearly a dozen air-defense systems to the region, the Wall Street Journal first reported. The missile deployments, which are expected to be completed in the coming days, are intended to shield U.S. troops serving in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates from enemy rockets and missiles. The embarrassing impasse in the House of Representatives has finally ended, as Louisiana’s Mike Johnson has been elected Speaker. So, who is Mike Johnson, and why was he finally able to succeed where several more notable House members failed? I suspect that the answer has more to do with desperation than anything else. The Republican Party was made to look ridiculous, not so much by the party’s divisions as by the utter lack of party loyalty and discipline that was revealed by one failed vote after another. Most likely, Republicans coalesced behind Johnson–a little-known commodity, who has never been a committee chairman–to stop the bleeding.

At the time, GM and Honda said they expected to begin production of “millions” of these affordable EVs by 2027. “After studying this for a year, we decided that this would be difficult as a business, so at the moment, we are ending development of an affordable EV,”
