The stations Vysotsky visited on Thursday were, according to his estimation, 100% ready for polling. Polling station staff were seen being trained for a last minute referendum announced only on September 20. Russia did not recognize the independence of the Donetsk People's Republic before February 21, 2022. Ukraine said it would not recognize the results of the new vote.
President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, discussed unspecified "security issues" with China's top diplomat in a Luxembourg meeting on Monday, according to a White House statement. The meeting between Sullivan and Yang Jiechi, which followed a May 18 phone call between the two men, "included candid, substantive, and productive discussion of a number of regional and global security issues, as well as key issues in U.S.-China relations," according to the statement, which didn't elaborate. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Ill.) and his wife said in a statement that Gwen Casten died in June of a sudden cardiac arrhythmia.
“In layman’s terms, she was fine, and then her heart stopped,” the grieving parents said. “We don’t know what caused the arrhythmia, and likely never will.”
