Abill signed into law last week by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul effectively outlaws the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in less than 14 years.
The law, Senate Bill S2758 and Assembly Bill A4302, sets a goal that 100% of all passenger cars, trucks and off-road vehicles will be zero-emission. The goal is 2045 for larger vehicles, such as medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses.

As other such dumbazz laws in the country, it's activated far into the future so the idiots who sponsor them will be long gone out of reach by the voters.

This is a fool's errand perpetrated by...fools. They never think anything through. Where will NY get its electricity for charging cars and those these monster trains? Cuomo closed Indian Point and didn't permit gas pipelines to pass through the state. Will Upstate NY be covered by windmill farms and solar panels? Fossil energy will be needed to pick up the slack. Suppose that we have global cooling, as predicted, instead of warming. This will be interesting.

Let's do the figuring. There are 300 million gas cars in the U.S.and 115,000 service stations for them. 3 hundred million electric cars will require 345,000 charging stations. Construction workers will be happy!!

Didn't California have a similar plan, or maybe it was about vehicle emissions. As I recall, that attempt failed.

So they think electric automobiles will stop hurricanes? There are uninhabited islands in the middle of the ocean that get raked by hurricanes. Having zero emissions does nothing to stop storm formation, which has been going on for untold eons.

Will interstate commerce fall under this? Will intrastate trains, trucks, delivery vans and autos of non NY citizens be required to be electric? What about Federal goobernment vehicles? What about the Military? Can't wait to see how farms and their equipment fair as electric. And notice the whole plan has the Soviet era like central planning from goobernment agencies. What possible could go wrong? I do hope that those that flee NY state doo so in gas vehicles and leave their leftist comrades behind.

Wonder if New Yorkers are feeling a little buyer's remorse at this point. They traded in a egotistical senior- citizen murdering gasbag clunker for a shiny new environmentalist nutjob lemon.

No sweat.
Although this statute also applies to leases of all new gas powered cars and trucks, (which are not defined) it includes the following:
"5. [Various New York State Departments] . . . in consultation with the other state agencies, shall on or before [July 15, 2023] identify near term actions and investment strategies to improve sustainable transportation, freight and transit options, including where feasible:
a. Supporting bicycle and pedestrian options, particularly in low-inincome and disadvantaged communities in the state, by incorporating safe and accessible infrastructure into projects where appropriate.
b. Supporting light, medium, and heavy-duty zero-emissions vehicles and infrastructure as part of larger transportation projects, where appropriate."

Then they don't plan on benefiting from new technology? Because people are going to keep those gas vehicles running till thy fall to pieces and then New York will no longer be able to feed itself.
People will leave and New York will become a land of abandoned buildings, ghost towns and unkempt landscapes.

I'm 70 and just traded in a perfectly good, for maybe 4-5 more years, 12 year old Focus. Got an Escape. The dealer had me 'name' it for the phone app that provides many features and I called it William Randolph Hearse... since it will probably take me to the funeral home. I figured that they won't be making gas powered cars soon and I should get one while I could.
The average car on the road is 12 years old. Expect that to go up if the government mandates these electric cars. And of course, we'll be on the road when power outages sideline the EVs.
I envision that our roads will look like those in Cuba. Old, old cars maintained and driven not because new ones aren't available, but because they're crap.

Just outlaw New York.
Make the whole dang place a bicycle park and sell it back to some native American group for $24.
I know, it's a break-even price point, but it's better than nothing.

On a somewhat more serious note, my friends are buying cars online, so this "ban" is moot until they try to make it illegal to use a gas-powered car in NY, or at least illegal to sell gasoline in NY.
Come to think about it, selling the place for $24 is about as serious as it gets.

When Trump gets back into office, all Biden's laws will be reversed. The electric vehicles will cause many problems. This is another matter that should be reviewed before making a universal mandate.

There is NO DA*N WAY most of the folks who live in our neighborhood can keep an electric vehicle going. There are NO charging stations and hundreds of 2 or multiple story apts. Which means there is no way for them to be able to conduct their lives and they would have to relocate. The only people that would be left are those that have no vehicles. What are they going to do, have a lottery to see whose vehicle can be charged in any one week ? There are numerous situations that are equivalent to ours in this locale. Electric vehicles are of little use because it is impossible to be able to charge them. The politicians on the Left are the most ignorant fools in the World. We, personally, would have to move, as we would not be interested in fighting with neighbors over who gets to charge their vehicle overnight. ( Upstate New York State ).

Good ideas, # 7, but what will power all those charging stations?
The typical Tesla 'supercharger' station away from a big city is powered by a huge diesel generator in a building right next to the charging station. Those Tesla "electric cars", when traveling away from home are powered by diesel fuel.

When at home, they are powered by coal and natural gas, with tiny amounts of wind and solar thrown in for window dressing.

The reality is, there is a 30% chance that those clean electric vehicles are powered by coal. Liberals don't think of this as they trumpet their non-fossil vehicles.

To prevent CO2 we must not use oil, CO2 is evil:
How did Co2 become evil?
The IPCC’s attribution methodology is fundamentally flawed
by Ross McKitrick
In a nut:
For 20 years AT99 has held CO2 as the evil gas that must be removed before we all parish from Global Warming. Professor Ross McKitrick in 2019 found a problem with the math used and asked the authors Myles Allen and Simon Tett (AT99) to respond. "One day after the IPCC released the AR6 I published a paper in Climate Dynamics showing that their (AT99) “Optimal Fingerprinting” methodology on which they have long relied for attributing climate change to greenhouse gases is seriously flawed and its results are unreliable and largely meaningless."
The results are the CO2 myth is dead, it does not cause warming therefore we can say AWG is dead.
The question now is why it took 20 years for find this mathematical error.
Every time someone comes up with an evil Co2 story we need to force them to answer Professor Ross McKitrick questions, they can't. .
So NY will prevent anyone from expelling CO2 which will be meaningless to climate change, it always changes and nobody understands why.
