House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is facing calls to resign after he reportedly joked about hitting Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., with a giant gavel he was gifted at a dinner in Nashville Saturday evening. According to reports, McCarthy was given an oversized gavel emblazoned with the words, "Fire Pelosi," by members of Tennessee's Republican congressional delegation during a dinner that also included speakers Gov. Bill Lee, and Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty.

I'd love to see him gone. Not for this gavel crack but because he's weak. Time to have a Freedom Caucus member as Minority Leader...and hopefully soon as Speaker.

Only morons would whine that an incoming Speaker would be serious about being unable to resist bashing the out-going Speaker with the gavel in front of the full House.

I suggest that big gavel she carried after putting the screws to us with Obamacare and would also place it somewhere else.

This is not about resignation. It's about trying to stop any negative comments, including jokes, from and among Republican politicians, even when among others thought to be friends. I would not be surprised that this joke was not overheard at the dinner, but was repeated to a Democrat or was leaked by one of the Republicans at that table.

McCarthy should resign but bravo for the gavel-to-the-Pelosi remark.

McCarthy is such a sniveling weakling that he might just be driven out by this. We can only hope.

How about: “On second thought, maybe I will do something less theatrical, like tearing up her next speech on national television.”

In context, it sounds like he meant you couldn't strike the gavel without hitting her. She's going to leave fingernail scratches all along the way when she's drug out by her well-heeled feet.

Don't hit her with a gavel. It would shatter! Pelosi's head is as hard as a rock, and even more dense.
If McCarthy stepped down, what are the odds either Cheney or Kinzinger would volunteer to replace him? Would give good odds that the republicans in the House might actually elect one of them.

Our leadership is so weak, #14, that they would probably nominate AOC to run the party. You can bet it won't be anyone that supports Trump.

Wasn't it VP Kamala Brainliss who joked about killing Trump in an elevator, and wasn't it President Demento who talked (not joked) about taking him behind the gym and kicking the crap out of him?

Sure, right after Pelosi resigns for tearing up Trump's SOTU speech. When it comes to politics, moral outrage is selective.
