Portland ran a pricy full-page Sunday ad in the New York Times promoting tourism after the Portland police riot squad quit Thursday.
“Some of what you’ve heard about Portland is true. Some is not. What matters most is that we’re true to ourselves,” Travel Portland wrote in the ad. [SNIP] “You’ve heard a lot about us lately. It’s been a while since you heard from us,” it continues.
“After a year of encouraging visitors and locals to support small businesses here and from a distance, it’s time to issue an invitation to come back to Portland."

I heard the NYT is following up the Portland tourism ads with promotional ads from Kabul and Caracas, Venezuela.

Tourism huh ? I have to take a trip to St Louis end of July for a tropical fish convention. I'll be staying in the hotel the whole time. I know that it's unlikely that I would be attacked BUT I'm a polar bear, and in an unfamiliar city it's possible to wander into the "wrong" neighborhood, and there's really not that much in St' Louis I care to see. They've burned most of it.

Alaska is running similar ads promoting tourism and how their state is one of the most vaccinated in the country and how safe it is. If you got the jab you are seriously in trouble. Can’t fix stupid.

Been there twice. In 1976 with my parents to visit my dad’s Navy buddy. Was there in 1991 to visit my husband’s aunt. It seemed nice. No reason to ever go back since she’s passed on. Oh well. Same deal with Seattle. Was there once in 1976 (same deal, with my parents to visit another of dad’s Navy buddies) and I loved it. Never again. Sad.

#5, if you can safely get too and from the base of the Arch, it's worth the trip to the top, IMO. But, getting there by cab might be pricey.

They really have few choices other than to make this pitch to New Yorkers, one of the few places worse than Portland. But New Yorkers are too busy moving to Texas or Florida.

They ran the ad in the NYT knowing their readers are the most likely idiots to believe that BS. Portland is doomed and they know it. Do they really believe people would want to vacation in a post apocalyptic disaster area where you could get killed just walking down the street? They're trying to get people to come there because everyone else is leaving.

We were in Seattle in April and it is a mess. Homeless camps along every freeway and in every city park. The locals we talked to were so proud of how they supported the campers. And of course wearing masks walking their dog alone on a street.

"Portland ran a pricy full-page Sunday ad in the New York Times promoting tourism after the Portland police riot squad quit Thursday." These lefties are certifiable.
If we haven't watched their non-actions and behavior for the past year, you'd think this was a not-funny joke. Another perfect example of the two americas-these loons and the rest of us. So many questions. Who are they trying to entice to this leftie utopia? Do they actually believe anyone wants to go to Portland? They don't need to advertise to the masked violent cowards, they are being paid with soros money and are either already there or, when called up for duty, have their arrangements made for them. No need for a print ad in the NYSlimes. Will the violent masked cowards be giving tours of downtown Portland to show off their work, like an art show? Will they be giving away customized bottled water with their Antifa and BLM logos printed on them, that when frozen, can be used as a weapon to hurl at the Karen next to you on the Antifa BLM walking tour as she yells because you are only wearing one, not two, masks. Or maybe this is geared toward leftie east coast parents - send your leftie kid to Antifa summer camp in beautiful downtown Portland, a crash course in marxist anger, and a jump-start on their CRT training before school starts again in August.
The ad sounds like a dear diary entry.

Yeah, sure. Once you run off the taxpayers and businesses from your ugly, dangerous city then trying to get the tourists to visit seems like a waste of money. You might get a few curious ones to visit just to see the carnage and homeless camps sort of like some used to tour Skid Row in NYC but that’s it.

I know someone who lives in Portland:
"We don't go downtown."
"What about Powell's Bookstore?"
"They have other locations."
Moral of the story: Get out of cities.
