SAN DIEGO — Two career-changing putts for Jon Rahm brought two trophies Sunday. He cradled his 3-month-old son, Kepa, as he walked off the 18th green at Torrey Pines on Father’s Day. And then he collected the silver U.S. Open trophy after a performance filled with passion and absent of blunders that wiped out everyone else. Rahm made a bending 25-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to catch Louis Oosthuizen. He buried another curling, left-to-right birdie putt from 18 feet on the final hole for a 4-under 67 and a one-shot victory. “Little man, you have no idea what this means right now,” Rahm said to his son

Nice win, great birdies on 17 and 18, the F18 flyover was a nice touch too.
Congrats to Rahm who was magnanimous and humble in winning.

Perfect. He got shafted at the Memorial by the Covid insanity. He may not have won, but he deserved the chance to play alone and find out. A farce. He handled it like the champion he is.

Fun to watch, and I was rooting for him after he had to withdraw at the last tournament because of moronic covid rules. The man had a vaccination shot, and then tested positive 3 days later. Not sick, but had to withdraw from a game that is played outdoors and where you can easily stay well apart from anyone else. One of the Stupidest things I think I have ever seen.

Great, great win and story for Jon Rahm, good for him and golf.
Still, Oosty CANNOT hit that tee shot at 17. Jon's karma must have got into Louie's head and shot shape, the only explanation.

Louis Oosthuizen has always been a favorite of mine - - bot on the crucial last two holes - - he hit a drive out-of-bounds - - while Rahm got two clutch birdies.
A well-deserved win for Rahm - - and another disappointing second place for Louis.

He probably got an unapproved treatment for the Wuhan virus.

Fitting, well-deserved, and well-played, especially those last two birdies, for Jon’s first Father’s Day!
Even the press recognized his talent and touch.
Well Done, and many more!
Be strong and courageous.

Agree. Great win for him after the bizarre Covid scam.
I was rooting for Oostie. Seems like a great guy.

A playoff seemed likely until Oosthuizen’s drive into the hazard on hole 17. Yes, it’s a hazard, as opposed to the misnomer, penalty area. Rahm earned the win with the two closing birdies. He is big, strong and very skilled.

After the PGA Tour shafted him out of a victory at Memorial, Jon Rahm has to regard this very timely major championship win as karmic.Tim Mickelson, Rahm's golf coach at Arizona State a few years ago, was so impressed that he quit the coaching job to become Rahm's manager. Tim's brother Phil also saw greatness in the young Spanish player, They are not wrong.
When I first saw him play three or so years ago, I said to myself, "This fellow is going to be #1." It's that clear.
Louis Oosthuizen, who has a very rare career slam of second places in all four majors as well as the 2009 Open Championship at St. Andrews, has the best swing in golf, hands down. Such great tempo! His drive on #17 essentially cost him a chance at playoff. I was as sorry for him as I was happy for Rahm.
Jon had the best comment of all after it was over: "This is for Seve." That one brought a tear to my eye. Seve left us way too early.

I make it a practice to support American competitors, but since Rahm now lives in Arizona, I'll make an exception.
And I will admit to my feelings of joy when sissy boy McIlroy collapsed like a wild Irish rose, and I also enjoyed little Sergio Garcia's poor play.
It was quite a show.

It was an amazing match. Any of the top ten players could have won on any given day but Rahm played superbly. Louis lost it due to the complications of one bad shot, which missed by a very short distance, just as Lexi Thompson did a few weeks ago after leading the entire day.
One thing I've noticed is that spectators at golf matches are not nearly as classy and respectable as in years past, I would even say obnoxious.

Good for him. They screwed him with that positive test which was a disgrace. 90% of those tests are bogus. He's handled these last few weeks like a true professional....

Rahm may have been born in Spain, but like many so called foreign players, he lives in the U.S., and went to school in the U.S.
