1 in 10 police departments
can now access videos
from millions of consumers' Ring security cameras

Nearly one in 10 U.S. police departments have access to videos from millions of privately owned Amazon Ring devices. Ring's Active Agency Map shows the home security camera company now has partnerships with more than 1,800 police departments in the U.S. out of nearly 18,000 total departments across the country. The company's "Neighbors" app notifies Ring users when neighbors or local law enforcement agencies send out public safety alerts. "We built Neighbors for our customers, not law enforcement, and users must opt-in to share videos on a per-request basis..."

Comments:

Privacy is a quaint notion. You have none. Will Ring customers opt in? Fight crime? Back the badge? Like Amazon's facial recognition and FISA courts, it's safe...isn't it?

We don’t have one. But what is the big deal about seeing who comes to the front door through a fish eye doorbell camera?

Another reason not to buy cameras that depend on a cloud server. Foscam and a few other brands will work directly through TCP/IP service. But if you don't understand TCP forwarding and the creation of strong passwords forget it. Unless the camera company put in a backdoor(which is highly unlikely), outside forces can't get into your camera. Sadly most ISP technical help lines don't understand TCP forwarding. And it's such an exciting experience when after many many phone calls I finally hit the one help line guy who understands TCP forwarding and solves the problem in minutes. It's like finally getting someone on the phone at Social Security who tells you why you haven't been getting Social Security checks for the last year even after you've called Social Security offices and your congressman multiple times. And two minutes later he's solved the whole issue. BTW, another problem with cloud service cameras is the company abandons the service and you are stuck with 1k$ of cameras that are useless. And the really sad thing is it was the very big corporation that I worked for and encouraged me to buy their cameras in the first place.

Well, #1, how about your own comings and goings? Given the fake phony covid police state gaining steam this might be a good way to ensure people are honoring lockdown orders.

It's all part of The Plan. Poster #4 is correct. Ontario has already made it illegal to be on the streets under covid restrictions and you are subject to arrest. Opt in or opt out: it's in the interweb-just like Facebook. FTA: The company also receives and reviews all legally binding requests, including warrants, the spokesperson said. Inside your home they listen with Alexa and outside with Ring. Enjoy your day, but don't do anything the Commissar doesn't like.

The only thing in my house connected to the internet is this computer and I control the router...no Alexa, no Ring, no talking refrigerator, or washer with a secret camera in the knob....

Only hours after Major League Baseball announced Friday it was moving this year’s All-Star Game from Atlanta, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett made a plea to Commissioner Rob Manfred to bring the game to American Family Field. Manfred and MLB made the decision to remove the game from Atlanta’s Truist Park in response to Georgia enacting a new law last month restricting voting rights.

There’s a reason we need a free press, despite its faults and foibles: Democracy won’t work without it. The grand experiment in self-governance that is the United States is rooted in trust and confidence we all will work toward the greater good. But the nation’s founders had experience with a king and his expected benevolence — and what could happen when things didn’t work out.

For the third time in less than 30 hours, four justices on the state Supreme Court dealt President Donald Trump a setback Friday, saying they wouldn't accept a lawsuit by Trump allies who wanted to let Republican lawmakers instead of voters decide how to cast the state's electoral votes. As with two decisions Thursday, Friday's ruling was 4-3, with conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joining the court's liberals to rebuff the president as he seeks to take away Democrat Joe Biden's narrow win of the state. "The relief being sought by the petitioners is the most dramatic invocation of judicial power I have ever seen," Hagedorn wrote.

Now, the neighborhood's location within walking distance of the Fiserv Forum and related projects has put its housing in high demand and led to a sharp rise in property taxes. In recent decades, the adjacent Brewers Hill neighborhood experienced gentrification, with longtime residents pushed out as property values skyrocketed due to demand from wealthier buyers who moved in, resulting in higher tax bills for all.

Truck Series driver Josh Reaume was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR on Tuesday for violating its social media policy. And according to Reaume, that violation was unintentional. Reaume, who owns a team in the Truck Series, says he posted a picture to Snapchat of a toaster strudel last week. That seems pretty innocuous, right? Well, the icing on that strudel was drawn in the shape of a swastika. And Reaume said he somehow didn’t realize that he had drawn a strudel swastika when he posted the picture to Snapchat.

A critical race studies and ethnic studies professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder says Americans wondering why Black citizens commit anti-Asian hate crimes have an answer: “White supremacy.” The educational watchdog Campus Reform spotlighted the commentary of Jennifer Ho, which preceded President Biden’s newly signed legislation aimed at combatting hate crimes against Asian Americans. “Anti-Asian racism has the same source as anti-Black racism: White supremacy,” Ms. Ho wrote for The Conversation. “So when a Black person attacks an Asian person, the encounter is fueled perhaps by racism, but very specifically by White supremacy. White supremacy does not require a White person to perpetuate it.”

Democrats have been flogging the image of Kamala Harris for more than six months, trying to show Americans why she should be popular, and the public isn’t buying it.The efforts and the expectations of success by Democrats say a lot about the party and their myopic view of the voters, which has cost them dearly during the last three national elections. A party that tells most voters they’re “racist” and says those same ordinary people must be cleansed of their “systemic racism” and delusions of “white supremacy” shouldn’t have to wonder why people don’t like them very much. But the Democrats keep doubling down — as they did with Harris.

Oregon has gone from a liberal hell hole to 1930s Germany overnight. The Oregon Health Authority is now requiring businesses and religious institutions to enforce mask mandates by forcing people to show proof of vaccination. The CDC last week updated its mask guidance and said fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks indoors. In order to prevent the unvaccinated from walking around unmasked, Oregon health officials are now creating a caste system by marking the unvaxxed lepers. “Businesses, employers and faith institutions now have the option to adjust their masking guidance to allow fully vaccinated individuals to no longer wear a mask in their establishments,” OHA’s website said.

It seems like a crazy urban legend: In China, drivers who have injured pedestrians will sometimes then try to kill them. And yet not only is it true, but it’s also fairly common; security cameras have regularly captured drivers driving back and forth on top of victims to make sure that they are dead. The Chinese language even has an adage for the phenomenon: “It is better to hit to kill than to hit and injure.” In contrast in our country, BLM regularly blocks roads and in most situations, the drivers are the ones that took the hit.
