It's too late to ratify the Equal

As two women who have spent our careers in and around politics, we commemorate the role that women from Abigail Adams to Susan B. Anthony have played throughout our nation's political history, and celebrate the increasing number of conservative women elected to office. But when it comes to a resolution the House will soon consider regarding the Equal Rights Amendment, we object to both its unconstitutional process and its harmful, anti-women policies.

I remember when the Equal Rights Amendment was first proposed and some people claimed that it would lead to men using the ladies room. These people were laughed off the stage. Doesn't sound quite so silly anymore.

Never mind that the amendment was never needed to begin with. Women have more rights then men. The whole legal system is set up to protect women, as is the whole educational system. If an equal rights amendment is needed it's needed for boys and men.

Why would you want 'equal rights' when you already have MORE rights?

Are the ranks of the U.S. military riddled with white supremacists? CNN thinks so, and won’t let the facts get in the way of this compelling narrative. CNN makes its case in a story headlined, “Disproportionate number of current and former military personnel arrested in Capitol attack, CNN analysis shows.” This is both factually untrue and downright libelous. It dishonors the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces.

As millions of Americans nationwide patiently wait for access to the coronavirus vaccine, why would lawmakers enact a bill to reduce the availability of lifesaving treatments? Those effects would likely result from legislation the Maryland House of Delegates will soon vote on. As the parent of a child born with a disability, I believe the move will harm some of the most vulnerable among us.

Kamala Harris made history when she became our country’s first female vice president. While electing the first woman to a nationwide office serves as an important milestone, Harris’s policy positions themselves provide little comfort to women. On numerous issues, Harris will undermine, rather than advance, causes that are important to women.

In the book of Genesis, the patriarch Methuselah, grandfather of Noah, lived to the age of 969. One of Joe Biden’s advisors would have you believe he lived approximately 892 years too long. Six years ago, Zeke Emanuel, recently named to Biden’s coronavirus task force, famously wrote an essay that The Atlantic entitled “Why I Hope to Die at 75.” In a 2019 interview, he disclaimed responsibility for the article’s title, but not its sentiments.

If you had told parents living in Los Angeles back in March, that we would still be under lockdown seven months later and that our children would not be permitted to freely trick-or-treat on Halloween we would have started our own peaceful playground protests. As a mother of two small children, I have seen firsthand how my kids have been uniquely impacted by the extended confinement. Their routines were disrupted without warning and they've experienced broken promises of when life as they knew it would resume based on moving targets set by local officials.

Congressional Democrats who have spent the past four years fixated on the Constitution’s emoluments clause might want to focus on another portion of our nation’s founding document. Article VI, Section 3 states that lawmakers and federal employees “shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” This passage could end up front-and-center in the Senate hearings over Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

As we head toward Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Senate confirmation hearings on her nomination to the Supreme Court, let’s not forget that former Vice President Joe Biden is responsible for turning the high court confirmation process into a blood sport driven by character assassination. Biden, now the Democratic presidential nominee, claims to work across the aisle with Republicans. But his vicious conduct as a Democratic senator from Delaware in the confirmation hearings for Robert Bork (whose nomination was not confirmed) and now-Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is a permanent stain on the Senate’s reputation.

The coronavirus pandemic has made all of us acutely aware of the fragility of health. People in fine shape one day have died in a matter of weeks or even days, and the burden of this disease falls especially hard on racial and ethnic minorities. Even patients who survive face long-term consequences from their illness. COVID-19 has caused kidney failure in some patients and lung failure in others, and some of these patients may require a transplant to recover fully from the virus and maintain their quality of life.

Clinical trials are frustrating when they fail—and most do, but they seem almost magical when they work. I experienced that magic in 2018 when one saved my life. I have cystic fibrosis (CF), a rare genetic condition that usually manifests in severe respiratory disease and maintains a median age of death of about 30 years old. CF leads to an abundance of thick, sticky mucus that traps harmful bacteria in the lungs until it eventually suffocates patients from the inside. I was 27 when I entered the trial that halted my rapid deterioration, and that came after a l

Ronald Reagan famously declared that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Those words resonate with many during a time when some governments are aggressively enforcing efforts that seek to prevent society from re-opening. Polling I conducted this past weekend found that 52 percent of voters share Reagan's view of how terrifying government "help" can be. Only 35 percent disagree. Initially, of course, there was strong support for the lockdowns. But a backlash is brewing.

The Justice Department’s recent decision to weigh in on Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s (D) stay-at-home order poses a fundamentally important question: If governments rightly consider physical nourishment an “essential” service, should not the spiritual sustenance that churches can provide receive at least equal consideration?   The Justice Department intervened after the pastor of the Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Chincoteague, Va., received a criminal charge for holding a service that 16 people attended, more than the limit of 10 set out in Northam’s order. Its brief noted that the congregation abided by social distancing guidelines and that other establishments — including liquor stores and big-box retailers — do not have to abide by a 10-person limit on gatherings.
