RALEIGH, N.C. -- Disturbing claims of racism on the court led to the William Peace University Women's Basketball Team walking out on their shot at the conference title. The team did it in an act of solidarity with Lauryn Cross -- a star point guard. It started back in January when, during a heated matchup against Mary Baldwin University, she says a white player insulted her. Woke is more important than winning a championship. In this day and age, finding a 18-something white college girl who uses the N-word in a black’s face is as likely as finding Bigfoot. I smell a hoax/lie.

I hope things get cleaned up and maybe they should start with some of the disgusting songs that young people listen to on a regular basis. And, trust me, the filthy language is used in these songs. My daughter was asked to do a homework assignment in her English class that required disseminating song lyrics. It was a filthy song and we scheduled an appointment with the teacher. Basically, if she didn't do the assignment, she would get a failing grade on it. We talked to the principal and could not get anywhere. I don't know the whole situation here but when nobody does anything about these disgusting songs, maybe kids don't know that they are using filthy language?

I am not excusing unsportsmanlike conduct and if the accusations are legit, the other player should be repremanded BUT trash talk isn't new. In any competitive situation from sports to business to war, when the enemy finds your soft spot and can get under your skin, having no impulse control makes you your own worst enemy. Toughen up snowflake!! When the rubber meets the road, just picking up your toys and going home isn't an option.

I am to believe you want to play college basketball if you disdain black people? I am to believe a white player can race slur on the bball court and 9 players don't ... "correct" her? Okay, here is an "UN-WOKE" comment. What if this was merely STRATEGY? If I can say something rude, crude, and/or disparaging to an opponent before or during a big game that will mess up their play, why wouldn't I? It's called "Trash Talk." And as much as I hate Trash Talk, it's in EVERY sport, and has been forever! There was that great scene during the 1970 movie M*A*S*H football game. One of the 4077's linemen is getting beat by a defensive player. It is suggested that, before the next play, the offensive lineman say something rude to the defensive player about his sister. Mayhem...

Lauryn Cross kept saying the other player said "something like the N word", or allegedly said it. Either they said it or they didn't. The fact that Cross was the one who actually harassed and physically assaulted other players totally detracts from her claims of victim status to me. Seems like she is using the racist N word claims to cover up her own problem with aggressive behavioral problems. She was the one who received disciplinary actions and was suspended, not other players. No, because it is fashionable to believe all claims of racism, the entire women's basketball team lost their chance to play for the championship. Wouldn't it have been better to have played and won the championship to prove to everyone that no matter what anyone says or calls you, you are better than them and can rise above it. Prove them wrong. Now the women's team looks like a bunch of woke snowflakes who possibly gave up the championship over a lie.

When I was in high school and college, I remember hearing stories from black athletes whose response to racist insults was to use them as motivation to play better. They would say that they had been taught that the way to defeat such attitudes was to be a better player, and a better person, than the one throwing the insults. This is the opposite. It teaches people that they can win by using this to get under their opponents skin.

A significant provision making any student loan forgiveness tax-free has been included in the $1.9 trillion federal coronavirus stimulus package that’s working its way through Congress and will likely soon be signed into law. Currently, any student loan debt canceled by the government can be considered taxable and levied at the borrower’s normal income tax rate. For example, if someone earns $50,000 a year, and was at a 22% tax rate, and received $30,000 in student loan forgiveness, they might be slapped with a $6,600 bill from the IRS.
