LA County is considering returning a beachfront property to the descendants of its original owners who were the first Black landowners in Manhattan Beach, California. As KABC-TV reported, Willia and Charles Bruce's property was taken away when the city council used eminent domain in 1924. According to the outlet, the couple's property, which is now a lifeguard building, served as a beach resort for Black families at the time amid racial tension and discrimination. "The property that was once the Bruce's is now owned by the County, and I want LA County to be part of righting this wrong," Los

Don't take it back. It's a trick. LA County will want back property taxes.

Virtue signaling on steroids. The powers that be should compensate the existing family for something that was done 100 years ago. However they should not set a precedent and give them the current appraised value. This will cause everyone who had eminent domain to come forward to make a claim and rightfully so. I didn't read the article because it was blocked, but if the AG of Los Angeles county, Cascon is involved, watch out. He was put there by Soros and is on the recall list.
California is an important state and we should do everything we can to turn it around.

I'd be all in favor of this if the property now belonged to a bunch of Hollywood leftests.

#2, the information is in the first sentence, which was printed right here. There’s no talk of reimbursing the value of the property. “LA County is considering returning a beachfront property to the descendants of its original owners who were the first Black landowners in Manhattan Beach, California.”

If this property was acquired by eminent domain there should be on file a recorded judicial decision signed by a judge that vested title to the Plaintiff County. Even if no case was thereafter filed to "Quiet the Title" the applicable Stature of Limitations should have barred any and all colorable claim(s) to any title to this real property. As real property laws favor quieting title to real property, absent violation of a Treaty, it is all but a certainty that such laws, as applicable, neither envision nor allow any individual(s) to validly claim title against any governmental entity owner of record.

I'd be interested to know what was the process 100 years ago and what the compensation to Mr. & Mrs. Bruce. If they got paid a fair market value then, which was undoubtedly much less than $75,000,000 there might be no injustice. They were obviously able to purchase the land initially and were they able to purchase other land to replace it in 1924? Lots of questions to answer still.

Black Land Matters.
If it's in Cali I wouldn't give you 10 cents for it.

We had our property taken by “Eminent Domain”. Maybe this will set a precedent and we can get OUR property back.

With all the land in western states that the feds own, there probably isn't much need anymore for imminent domain.

Can the County legally make an enormous gift - property worth many millions - to a family?
Like it or not - and who may feel it is fair or unfair - the County owns the land at the moment.
So if the County returns the land back to the Bruce family I would say that is a gift. Do County Supervisors have the legal authority to give simply give away property?
I am more interested in the process than in who ends up owning the land.

Now return all the CA property seized by the government after Pear Harbor to their Japanese American owners. I suspect that more than a few Hollywood types would be impacted.

There are a lot of poor Southerner families that would like the land back that was stolen by carpet baggers.

Many people have been short-changed by eminent domain over the years. I wonder if the Indians think $26 worth of baubles was a fair price for Manhattan?
