Democrat Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won the special election in Florida's 20th Congressional District on Tuesday to succeed the late Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings, who died last year after a battle with cancer. Cherfilus-McCormick’s victory, called by the Associated Press minutes after the polls closed, gives Democrats the first congressional election of 2022 and a slight increase to their current majority. The district, as currently drawn, is a safe Democratic seat in southeast Florida and one of only two black-majority seats in the Sunshine State. However, the district’s boundaries are subject to change this year as state lawmakers finalize their redistricting process.

So she has to run again in the primary & if wins run in the midterms which will be subject to the new CD drawn up by GOP.
Could be a short political career for her.

And somehow democrats will spin this as a mandate and proof that they will win in November.

Alcee Hastings?
Hastings was one of the most corrupt judges/congressman in our lifetime.
I'm glad he's "gone", should have been sooner. Much sooner.

My mom was, I think, the only registered Republican in this district. She died in late November, so probably voted Democrat in the special election.

I know the word is that the repubs are going to win in the midterm BUT I really believe, no matter what the polls say the dems are going to cheat and win. No way are they going to let power slip away. 150% of registered voters in each district will vote to bring them over the finish line.

Hastings was a criminal. This replacement is probably just another criminal.

Alcee Hastings was an impeached judge and crook. The people in his district voted this disgusting person back in office. What do you expect they would do this election.....vote someone in office very similar to him.

from wikipedia
*On December 27, 2023, the House Ethics Committee announced that it was investigating Cherfilus-McCormick over complaints that she may have violated campaign finance laws, failed to submit required disclosures and carried out improper hiring practices*
seems also to have lost several primaries before her presently magical win.
based upon the resume, she is called a 'prog', which can also be read as... obumunist.

Never trust anybody with a double-name, whether it's Cherfilus-McCormick, De Daumier-Smith, Taft-Hartley, or Terra-Cotta. Like nose rings, blue hair, and Biden bumper stickers on Priuses, that's nature's way of telling the rest of the world that this person is a loser and proud of it.

And then I googled her. Uh oh..... good thing I ran the other way on the basis of the hyphenation.
