Fast-Food Minimum Wage Is Already An Economic Disaster

California Democrats who pushed through the state’s punitive new minimum wage must be feeling mighty proud about now. Not only are fast-food joints closing or replacing low-end employees with overseas workers and robots, now the law is costing the very people it was supposed to help while decimating consumers’ wallets. Well done! The $20-an-hour wage floor foisted on California’s fast-food restaurants, dubbed with the innocent-sounding moniker Assembly Bill 257, was signed into law last fall. It didn’t take long to become a disaster. Hoover Institution senior fellow and economist Lee Ohanian showed just how quickly bad policies can wreck an economy. And the damage was done even before the law

The sad thing is, the dem leadership is not that stupid. The effects of their bill were well understood and predictable. They WANTED this outcome. Why? To create more people out of a job, dependent on government, and probably not smart enough to realize how they have been manipulated. The next step to to create an economic support program for the unemployed, i.e. welfare. The dems can rightly say that Republicans don't support such programs so they can scare the people on these programs into voting for dems. Of course they fail to mention that Republicans wouldn't sabotage the job market in the first place and that employed people don't need welfare. None of this is news. It's sad that so many people still fall for the dems repeatedly failed ideas.

Many, many Leftists will no doubt announce that they did not fail, they just did not raise the minimum wage high enough. If only they had made it at least $40/hr, everything would be okay. Those evil private sector businesses are always hoarding cash, not willing to 'spread it around.'

As predicted by all with a brain and a memory. Lefitsts have a whole bag of "great ideas" which ALWAYS cause harm, and not help. Always. And.....when they try one of their "good ideas" and it makes things worse, they become CERTAIN, that the problem is caused by "not enough" of their "good idea", so they do MORE of it. Like you steer your car towards the ditch and ....dang, it heads towards the ditch. And the FIX for this is .....according to leftists.....steer towards the ditch HARDER, that'll fix it. And then when they hit the ditch, they turn to the passengers and blame THEM for being in a ditch.

I have found quite a few kiosks that do not function, some that require you download an app (McDonald’s), some that do not offer the spectrum of choices the menu has (Wendy’s), some that aggressively try to upsell (panera) and none that provide the social banter that glue us together.

McDonalds sales have dropped on a daily, quarterly and yearly scale. Burger King is investing $300 million to upgrade their stores to attract more business when what they need to upgrade is the quality and size of their burgers. Just pull out the recipes you used fifteen years ago, you know, the ones you photograph for today's ads. The Whopper Junior is an oxymoron. Taco Bell might as well close now.

Voters Really Favor As Trump's V.P.: I&I/TIPP Poll

Who should be Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate? Though no one yet knows who it will be, many people seem to have an opinion about whom it should be. It’s a long list of possible names for the increasingly important vice presidential job, as the latest I&I/TIPP Poll indicates. As part of our monthly national online poll, taken from May 1-3, we asked 538 Republicans, and those who lean that way, two questions about who they preferred as Trump’s vice president. The poll has a margin of error of +/-4.3 percentage points. First we asked a straightforward question: “Who is your top choice for Trump’s vice president?”

Google has come in for some well-deserved criticism after its “artificial intelligence” wouldn’t answer a simple question: How many Jews did the Nazis kill? That’s bad enough. But then a not-so-intelligent Google employee compounded the problem with a lie about why it happened. The story goes that Michael Apfel asked a Google “virtual assistant” this question: “Hey Google, how many Jews were killed by the Nazis?” Google’s answer: “Sorry, I don’t understand.” Then he asked: “How many Jews were killed during World War II?”

"They have the money to spend.” — President Joe Biden Those of us who’ve been around a while remember when the press made an epic deal out of President George H.W. Bush’s apparent amazement at an ordinary grocery store checkout scanner. It turns out the story was a complete media fabrication, but it fed the narrative that Bush was hopelessly out of touch, and it helped cost him his reelection. This week, Joe Biden actually did do something that shows he is perhaps the most clueless president in American history. In a softball interview this week, CNN’s Erin Burnett let Biden carry on — uninterrupted — with his usual litany of lies.

Author’s Note: Elsewhere, I published a letter from a J6 prisoner for two reasons: it was a very coherent description of life behind bars for J6 prisoners, and, second, I felt people needed to remember that these are real persons with families, whose individuality should not disappear under the blanket label of “Jan. 6 prisoners.” I publish this subsequent letter for another reason: to highlight the fact that they are subject to intimidation and punitive measures if they exercise their rights. President Joe Biden has a tenuous lead over lawfare-challenged former President Donald Trump, but continues to show weakness among key voting groups that he needs to win a second term in office, the latest numbers from the May I&I/TIPP Poll show. The national online I&I/TIPP Poll, taken from May 1-3, included 1,264 responses to a number of questions about the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The poll’s margin of error is +/-2.8 percentage points. Our main question was to ask registered voters about a straight, head-to-head matchup between Biden and Trump. More specifically, voters were asked to choose among Biden, Trump, “not sure” “other” and “prefer not to answer” as possible responses.

Joe Biden got his start in politics in the 1970s and appears determined to recreate the world as it existed back then. Misguided federal policies have pushed energy prices to punishingly high levels. Americans are struggling with inflation. Radical Muslims are holding American citizens hostage in the Middle East. Our adversaries, including Russia, are on the march. Even bell bottoms are making a comeback. And, now, the pièce de résistance of the 1970s is also making a comeback: stagflation. Stagflation. Let’s say tomorrow, or in 10 years or even 15, that by some feat of magic that wind and solar could fully power the global economy. We could then stop extracting oil and the natural gas that’s a byproduct of drilling. Right? No, it wouldn’t work that way – because it can’t. Even in a world that ran entirely on renewable energy, it would still be necessary to drill for crude. Why? Because of, as Dustin Hoffman’s character Benjamin Braddock was told 1967’s “The Graduate,” plastics. “There’s a great future in plastics,” Mr. McGuire, a family friend, told Ben at his college graduation party.
