Why China Should Switch Sides in Venezuela
Bloomberg, by Juan Guaidó

Original Article

Posted By:Moritz55, 4/15/2019 2:46:20 PM

China is the world´s largest oil importer and Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. For those two reasons alone, the economic relationship between our nations will inevitably grow. In fact, we hope for even more. There are many areas besides oil in which we can mutually benefit from trade and cooperation in the future. For that relationship to blossom, however, Venezuela has to change and abandon a model of governance that’s ruined us economically. The country is suffering a devastating humanitarian crisis: At least 87 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty

Why should the ChiComs want to do Venezuela a favor and let the market dictate the price of oil when they could continue to prop up Maduro and his kleptocrats and get oil at more favorable terms?

#1, the answer to your question is that, as things stand, it will not be much longer before Venezuela will be unable to get the oil out of the ground. When that happens, the cost to fix things and get the oil flowing again will be much higher than the current market price of oil. It has likely already passed the point where it will be possible to keep the oil flowing at market prices.

China is focused on defeating just one hegemon in this world and that is the US. They would never freely aid the side that has been anointed by their arch enemy. They would only aid Guaido if it could determine that it would weaken us economically or politically. At this point it would look like they were stepping in to be the "hero" for human rights by aiding Guaido and that´s just not in their playbook. They gain more by letting us get in a proxy battle for control of Venezuela with Putin and would really rejoice if we committed troops.

Venezuela may have large oil reserves, but getting that tar like oil out of the ground is expensive. The oil is also highly contaminated which means it´s needs extra refining to make it useful. All that processing means oil from Venezuela is more expensive.

The question remains. Is Guaido, an avowed Socialist, as was Chavez and Maduro before him, going to change how Venezuela will be ruled?

Exchanging Russian support for Chinese doesn´t sound all that promising.

The Latest: US sanctions on Venezuelan
bank aimed at Maduro
Associated Press, by Staff    Original Article

The Latest on the Trump administration’s position on Cuba (all times local): 2:15 p.m. The U.S. says it’s imposing sanctions on the Central Bank of Venezuela. The Trump administration says the bank has been instrumental in propping up the government of Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro. President Donald Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton says the move is aimed at restricting U.S. transactions with the bank and cutting off the bank’s access to U.S. currency. Bolton says the action is meant to be a warning to others, including Russia, against deploying military assets to Venezuela to help Maduro stay in power.

Former British prime minister Harold Macmillan was once asked what could happen that might change the direction of his government. His world-weary answer: “Events, dear boy, events.” Actually, there’s some question as to whether or not Macmillan really said those words, but there’s no question that he—and everyone else, in politics or not, who has ever had a plan—knows the feeling. As much as we hope to ride events, events have a way of riding us. Today, unforeseen events are once again in the saddle, and the Democrats’ plan for the orderly defenestration of President Donald Trump has been disordered.

Canada expands Venezuela sanctions,

Canada announced new sanctions today against 43 individuals connected to the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland met with counterparts from the Lima Group of nations in Santiago, Chile. The Lima Group is an association of 15 American nations that accuse Nicolas Maduro of usurping Venezuela´s democracy through fraudulent presidential and assembly elections in 2017-18. A Canadian official, speaking on background, told CBC News that one of the purposes of the sanctions is to punish Venezuelan judges who rubber-stamped Maduro´s moves to sideline the country´s legitimately-elected National Assembly

There are two reasons the political media establishment is growing increasingly hostile towards Attorney General William Barr: First, he serves under President Donald Trump. Second, he is not only the messenger of the demise of the Russiagate conspiracy theory that the Deep State and its aiders, abettors, and enablers in the political media establishment worked so hard to perpetuate, but he could also be the source of the demise of the establishment itself, if he ends up exposing their whole sordid affair. Should Barr conduct a thorough investigation of the Russiagate investigators, and the associated leakers and colluders,

Venezuela Sells $400 Million in Gold
Amid Sanctions, Sources Say

Venezuela sold about $400 million in gold despite a growing international push to freeze the country’s assets, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. The amount, which would equal almost 9 tons, was reflected by a drop in the bank’s total reserves, which fell to $8.6 billion on April 12, according to data provided by the central bank. About $5.1 billion of that is gold. A central bank press official didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on the sale Monday. The sale could mean President Nicolas Maduro has found a way to skirt the economic blockade.

The lights in Petare had gone dark. Again. The people of Venezuela’s largest slum were used to the blackouts that halt the flow of water, exhaust their supplies of expensive candles and fray their already thin patience. But this would not be like any other lightless night in the hillside barrio. Amid the darkened alleyways, a strange, joyful sound emerged between the zinc-roofed homes. Tambourines jingled, maracas rattled, drums throbbed. Voices called all who could hear to salvation. “Cristo sana y salva...” 10 members of the Restoring Hearts church sang against the darkness. “Christ heals and saves...”

Once again, President Trump has hit upon a supposedly “controversial” proposal that has caused the entire herd of fainting goats in the Washington press corps to collapse in fevered panting and jerky spasms. And, once again, the idea is simple, logical and genius. Faced with a massive and growing crisis of 100,000 illegal immigrants storming the border every month, Mr. Trump must decide what to do with all these people who have discovered the giant Trojan Horse that is America’s immigration system. Cross the border, claim asylum, get a court date, be set free and vanish into the interior

After Nicolas Maduro blocked humanitarian aid from entering Venezuela in February, the U.S. and others responded with sanctions. But nearly two months later, much of the aid continues to sit at the Venezuela-Colombia border. Now, Florida Sen. Rick Scott is urging the U.S. military to get involved in getting aid across the border, after unarmed trucks manned by supporters of opposition leader Juan Guaidó were blocked by Maduro on February 23. “There is only one option left to get aid to the people of Venezuela. It is something that no one is willing to talk about,” Scott said

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu secured a fifth term as Israeli prime minister. A master of coalition-building and political compromise, Netanyahu has earned himself a significant chapter in Israel´s history. No one should forget, though, that President Trump played a significant role in Netanyahu´s victory. Just in time for the election, Trump handed Netanyahu major policy victories that he was able to sell at home. The New York Yankees‘ anti-racism efforts have extended to pulling from their seventh-inning stretch a famous recording of the legendary Kate Smith singing “God Bless America.” Not because anyone has complained that the song is racist, but because Smith recorded other racially-insensitive standards from and during the Jim Crow era. The Yankees pulled Smith’s “God Bless America” from the rotation at the start of the season, but the New York Daily News reported the reason Thursday—“the Yankees were made aware of Smith’s history of potential racism.” According to the Daily News, the “potential racism” of which

[SNIP] “if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgment.”
