Kamala Harris wants to use federal
funds to augment teacher salaries

American Thinker, by Rick Moran

Original Article

Posted By:nhchemist, 3/24/2019 11:29:37 AM

I´m a little puzzled. Is there any Democratic candidate for president who has an idea that doesn´t involve a massive increase in federal spending? Kamala Harris isn´t one of them. Harris has proposed using federal funds to augment teacher salaries, proposing "the largest federal investment in teacher salaries in the history of the United States." Washington Examiner: "We are a society that pretends to care about education, but not the education of other people´s children. And we´ve got to deal with that," Harris told the crowd of 2,400 people. "We are not paying our teachers their value... That ain´t right!"

Comments:
Those who can do. That that can´t teach.

Demon-Rats just love to spend other peoples´ money!!!!!

They just can´t seem to get enough. Reparations, guaranteed minimum income for all, augmented teacher salaries, Social Security for illegal aliens, etc, etc, etc... (all things Demon-Rat candidates have proposed as they pander to become the front runner for 2020)!!!

I guess concepts like working hard to make more money, sacrificing to better yourself so that you can get ahead in your career, changing careers if you aren´t making enough in your current career, etc, etc, are just foreign to lie-berals.

It´s like they assume people are too lazy and too stupid to actually make it without "Big Brother Government" taking care of them. But "Big Brother Government" comes with a big price -- since you give up your freedom and liberty to get his help!!! No thank you!!!!!

Teachers are not underpaid - They work 9 months a year, get generous pensions and benefits, generous vacation time, and most teach the same subject with little change year after year. They also get student graders (I know because I was one), and teacher aides to help control the children. Their only hardship is putting up with smart-aleck kids.

Every Democrat wants to use Federal funds, which is a fancy name for YOUR TAX DOLLARS, for ANYTHING that can get their name in the news. Education funds are already sent to the Federal Govt and then MISdirected back to States and Districts in different proportions than they were sent to the Govt. Why is sent up and back/ So the Government can control YOUR life.

My daughter and Son-in-law are both teachers.
My daughter taught 8 years in a Catholic school. Her top salary was about $21K. She considered the lower pay as part of her commitment to the Catholic Elementary School system, and the fact that she had no student loan debt.

Her husband´s starting salary was $45K in the Public Elementary School system.

Both of them were able to coach High School sports teams and work other jobs during the three months off each had during the Summer.

Now my SIL has been Principal at that school for the past six years. His salary is $125K, with ALL health insurance and retirement funds paid by the district.

Now he "only" gets one month off in the summer and six weeks over the course of the school year.

I´m grateful that he can provide enough that my daughter is now a stay at home mom to their four little girls.

For the most part teachers do quite well, far better than most police and fire departments in the smaller communities. Is the government ready to subsidize all of their salaries as well?

Republicans better remind people that teachers, police and firefighters are all paid by local and state property taxes, for the most part.

Obama spent a significant amount of his "stimulus" borrowing on propping up teachers in Illinois due to the lack of funding most states and communities had after 2008-09 - ergo, the jobs saved part of his banter.

If you have good schools, you likely have high local taxes that support those schools.

The teachers here in Oklahoma threw hissy fits last year over their salary of about $50K a year. I think they did get another raise but not sure how much. My question is - at what point in your upper education did you assume you´d make big bucks teaching? Surely you were aware that teacher don´t get rich teaching. Oh well, my kids have kids and I don´t pay too much attention here but education in the US was far superior to the world before the feds started giving them money and therefore earning the right to tell schools what to do and how to do it. We have ended up with two generation of snowflakes who will most likely turn this country socialist.

Closed 2-3 days in Feb for who knows what (probably not Washington & Lincoln). Now they are on a Spring Break for a full week. In most school districts in the U.S., teachers are represented by unions, and collective bargaining agreements are in place, covering wages, hours, terms and conditions of employment.
Each negotiated agreement is different from other negotiated agreements because it reflects the emphases of the teachers and the school boards. I have mediated teacher agreements, and done fact findings, where I recommended what the settlement should be, and in one district, the parties gave me binding power(arbitration authority) to write the agreement.
Each gain in an agreement may represent a compromise from the other side, and that includes salaries. I have even dealt with the right of employees to save up personal days off to be used for the opening of deer season in Pennsylvania. (The District wanted to eliminate the practice, but I preserved it. And as a deer hunter, I dropped any show of neutrality, as the local newspaper noted.)
What is my poinjt?
Having the federal government inject itself into the collective bargaining process is idiotic, and Kamala Toe is a damned fool.

Typical democrat vote-grabbing ploy. This tactic has been used in Pennsylvania for years.

It has been proven over and over and over again that throwing money at schools does not improve the quality of education. If anything it makes it worse by making the average teacher lazy and complacent.

The truth of violations of law by the Obama White House, long buried, is being excavated by two private groups. Judicial Watch has obtained testimony from a top FBI official that Hillary home brew server emails were found in the White House. This means that Barrack Obama’s illegal handling of classified information contained in those emails is closer to being exposed. This implicates him in the same felonies committed by Hillary Clinton that James Comey falsely claimed “no reasonable prosecutor” would pursue.
