Cuba would need to spend $2 billion a year

Cuba would have to spend nearly $2 billion a year to meet its domestic oil needs if Venezuela’s National Assembly and interim president Juan Guaidó manage to stop deliveries to the Caribbean island. “Cuba’s demand for oil is about 130,000 barrels per day, and Cuba produces about 50,000 barrels per day, which means a deficit of about 80,000 barrels per day,” said Jorge Piñón, director of the Latin American Energy Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Piñón estimates that Cuba has fuel reserves for about 45 days. But the end of deliveries by Venezuela’s PDVSA oil company

See? Socialist countries can take each other down, just like errant bowling pins spinning around. If Cuba could afford cars built after 1960 they would not need so much oil. Those big Detroit V-8s could really suck it up.

The sad thing is that the Cuban government will just divert funds to buy the oil from hospitals, schools, etc. making the people even poorer than they already are. I am sure it´s the elites who use the most energy.

Hillary Clinton: Anyone other than Trump

Fox News, by Alex Pappas    Original Article

Hillary Clinton said Tuesday she believes Donald Trump would have been indicted in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe if he weren´t president, though stopped short of calling for his impeachment. Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president in 2016, he argued during a Q&A session in New York that Mueller’s report “could not be clearer” in making the case Trump tried to obstruct the Russia investigation -- even though Mueller did not come to an explicit conclusion on that question. “I think there’s enough there that any other person who had engaged in those acts would certainly have

In recent weeks, the people calling in to my morning radio show in the Venezuelan town of Trujillo have asked questions I just can’t answer: "When will the power be back?" "Where can we get clean water?" "How long will we have to deal with this situation?" Things have been hard for years here, and Venezuelans have gotten used to power disruptions, food shortages and other systemic problems. But lately it’s been much, much worse. Power outages now last anywhere from 10 hours to five days, and affect critical facilities. The other day somebody from a nearby hospital

France´s Yellow Vest protesters return to the streets

Yellow Vest protestors in Paris battled police during violent clashes Saturday -- newly enraged at the more than billion dollars that have been pledged to rebuild fire-damaged Notre Dame Cathedral, overshadowing their anti-wealth cause. Black-hooded demonstrators set fire to trash cans, scooters and a car and pelted police with rocks to draw attention anew to their 23rd weekend of protest. Many protesters are frustrated that the international effort to help Notre Dame has drawn more attention than their five-month-old Yellow Vest movement against wealth inequality, The Associated Press reported.

Drug trafficking keeping Maduro in power

It has been more than three months since the U.S. accelerated its onslaught of economic sanctions on Venezuela, coupled with the back of a new interim President – heightening official expectation that the Nicolas Maduro-led regime would crumble. Only the socialist dictatorship has failed to fall. While there an array of factors to blame, analysts are pointing to illicit trafficking rings as a fundamental Maduro lifeline. “The Venezuelan military forces has become a narco-criminal, armed organization. Most of the top and mid-commanders are deeply involved in corruption, drug operations, and serious human rights abuses,” Johan Obdola, president of Latin

The pot-banging crowds lined busy Avenida San Martin on a weekday afternoon, shouting his name: “Guaidó! Guaidó! Guaidó!” A caravan of armored vehicles pulled up. Throngs broke through a rank of police officers to get close to the man. Juan Guaidó stepped out, leaped atop a pickup truck and seized a microphone. “I’m not asking you to trust me, but to trust yourselves,” he said. “It’s our job to reclaim our lives, our normalcy and our Venezuela.” The crowd erupted in cheers. This is not how it was supposed to go for Guaidó.

The Latest: US sanctions on Venezuelan

The Latest on the Trump administration’s position on Cuba (all times local): 2:15 p.m. The U.S. says it’s imposing sanctions on the Central Bank of Venezuela. The Trump administration says the bank has been instrumental in propping up the government of Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro. President Donald Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton says the move is aimed at restricting U.S. transactions with the bank and cutting off the bank’s access to U.S. currency. Bolton says the action is meant to be a warning to others, including Russia, against deploying military assets to Venezuela to help Maduro stay in power.

Former British prime minister Harold Macmillan was once asked what could happen that might change the direction of his government. His world-weary answer: “Events, dear boy, events.” Actually, there’s some question as to whether or not Macmillan really said those words, but there’s no question that he—and everyone else, in politics or not, who has ever had a plan—knows the feeling. As much as we hope to ride events, events have a way of riding us. Today, unforeseen events are once again in the saddle, and the Democrats’ plan for the orderly defenestration of President Donald Trump has been disordered.

Canada announced new sanctions today against 43 individuals connected to the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland met with counterparts from the Lima Group of nations in Santiago, Chile. The Lima Group is an association of 15 American nations that accuse Nicolas Maduro of usurping Venezuela´s democracy through fraudulent presidential and assembly elections in 2017-18. A Canadian official, speaking on background, told CBC News that one of the purposes of the sanctions is to punish Venezuelan judges who rubber-stamped Maduro´s moves to sideline the country´s legitimately-elected National Assembly

There are two reasons the political media establishment is growing increasingly hostile towards Attorney General William Barr: First, he serves under President Donald Trump. Second, he is not only the messenger of the demise of the Russiagate conspiracy theory that the Deep State and its aiders, abettors, and enablers in the political media establishment worked so hard to perpetuate, but he could also be the source of the demise of the establishment itself, if he ends up exposing their whole sordid affair. Should Barr conduct a thorough investigation of the Russiagate investigators, and the associated leakers and colluders,

Venezuela Sells $400 Million in Gold

Venezuela sold about $400 million in gold despite a growing international push to freeze the country’s assets, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. The amount, which would equal almost 9 tons, was reflected by a drop in the bank’s total reserves, which fell to $8.6 billion on April 12, according to data provided by the central bank. About $5.1 billion of that is gold. A central bank press official didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on the sale Monday. The sale could mean President Nicolas Maduro has found a way to skirt the economic blockade.

China is the world´s largest oil importer and Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. For those two reasons alone, the economic relationship between our nations will inevitably grow. In fact, we hope for even more. There are many areas besides oil in which we can mutually benefit from trade and cooperation in the future. For that relationship to blossom, however, Venezuela has to change and abandon a model of governance that’s ruined us economically. The country is suffering a devastating humanitarian crisis: At least 87 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty

The lights in Petare had gone dark. Again. The people of Venezuela’s largest slum were used to the blackouts that halt the flow of water, exhaust their supplies of expensive candles and fray their already thin patience. But this would not be like any other lightless night in the hillside barrio. Amid the darkened alleyways, a strange, joyful sound emerged between the zinc-roofed homes. Tambourines jingled, maracas rattled, drums throbbed. Voices called all who could hear to salvation. “Cristo sana y salva...” 10 members of the Restoring Hearts church sang against the darkness. “Christ heals and saves...”
