Journalism Dies in Self-Importance
City Journal, by Lance Morrow

Original Article

I suppose it’s true that “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” as the Washington Post’s slogan says. But journalism may also die, by morphing into forms that can no longer be described as journalism. Journalism may come to mean a crooked scandal sheet, or high-minded propaganda. Sometimes squalor and self-righteousness are equally disreputable. The Post’s apothegm, somehow off-kilter, with its alliteration and self-importance, was a purposeful bit of branding, designed to claim high ground and to poke a thumb in President Trump’s eye every morning. Such partisan intent detracts from the slogan’s claim to universality. The self-serving implication—the notion that,

The truly humorous side to this implosion is that Fox made its move to the Left at exactly the wrong time. I have no idea what their goal was after having enjoyed the number one slot for so long but I find it amusing that multi-millionaire liberals could be so stupid.

I would like to see all the fake news journalists have their heads shaved and marched down Pennsylvania Avenue. Traitors, who collaborated with Nazis in WW 2 were treated to such humiliation, before they were either imprisoned, or worse.

Wapo may have to read this criticism, since it comes from a rather respected voice in the journalism business. I disagree with Morrow regularly, but I admire his outstanding writing style.

We mourn today with France,

Aujourd´hui, nous sommes tous français. Today, we are all French. Today, we gasp, we ache, we mourn. Today, we feel a nauseating sense of loss. Today, we weep. The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is surely, along with St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, among the three most famous Christian churches in the world. And with good reason. It is — it was — magnificent. The sheer size of the cathedral was stunning. For it to have been commissioned 850 years ago, and finished, largely, 700 years ago, makes its achievement even more mind-boggling.

When Attorney General Bill Barr testified last week that, yes, “spying did occur” in the government’s Trump-Russia investigation and that spying on a political campaign is a “big deal,” the Democrats were apoplectic. How could he dare say such a thing? The saintly James Comey went even further. He told an audience that he didn’t even know what spying meant. No, siree, he had no idea. Barr’s candor is what Michael Kinsley famously called a “Washington gaffe,” where the naked truth somehow slips out. Naturally, it set off a firestorm. Democrats demanded an immediate retraction but got only an anodyne

The left has a new tool to bring illegals to America — to wedge border doors a bit wider in defiance of law and order — and it goes like this: climate change. The weather. The weather is making people flee their countries and come to America. And as the left sees it, America has a duty — an obligation — to let these poor people in and take care of them. Wow. This is a new low even for the left. It’s U.N.-speak, pure and simple. While discussing President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate immigrants to sanctuary cities on NBC’s “Meet the Press,”

California, the Los Angeles Times recently reported, is building a “non-plastic future.” The state has outlawed or restricted single-use plastic bags, plastic drinking straws, and plastic cutlery. Future targets: plastic detergent bottles, unattached caps on plastic bottles, and polystyrene containers (typically used to hold restaurant takeout orders), which more than 100 California cities have already banned. Some legislators also want to ban travel-size shampoo bottles that hotels provide for guests. Golden State consumers are schlepping groceries in their arms as if they’ve been sent backward to the pre-bag era, sucking on paper straws that quickly become sodden and useless,

Five arguments the Mueller report won´t settle

Attorney General William Barr has promised to release a redacted version of the Mueller report this week. It will of course consume the political conversation for days, but even now it is clear that, as much as the report might be talked about, it will not settle the main arguments that have raged about the Trump-Russia affair for more than two years. Here are five debates that won´t be resolved, no matter how much of the report Barr makes public: 1. Collusion. On the face of it, Barr´s summary of Mueller´s conclusion could not be clearer:

After eight years of reckless expansion of the federal workforce under Barack Obama, Donald Trump vowed to downsize the wildly growing bureaucracy of Washington. In 2016, he promised to “cut so much your head will spin.” However, during the first two years of his presidency, there has been no significant effort to reduce the bloated federal payrolls. In fact, the federal government is the largest employer in the nation. Walmart, which has a presence in communities of all shapes and sizes, is the largest private employer in the nation with 1.5 million workers. Yet the number of Americans who rely

Words have actual, distinct meanings. Somehow accepting this wisdom that is thousands of years old is something of a struggle in this, the 21st century. (Snip)The real danger in regard to Democrats accusing Republicans like Rep. Dan Crenshaw and Donald Trump, and outlets like the New York Post, of incitement to violence is that the charge is one of very few that can be used to erase First Amendment free speech protections. It’s no accident that this is the word being used. But it is an absurd accusation.

The world´s largest aeroplane by wingspan has taken flight for the first time. Built by Stratolaunch, the company set up by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2011, the aircraft is designed to act as a flying launch pad for satellites. The idea is to fly the plane to 10 km (6.2 miles) before releasing satellites into orbit. Its 385 ft (117 m) wingspan is the length of an American football field. If successful, such a project would be a cheaper way to launch objects into space than rockets fired from the ground. The twin-fuselage six-engine jet flew
