How New Zealand´s gun
laws compare to the States´

Washington Examiner, by Siraj Hashmi

The terrorist attack at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that left more than 49 people dead and scores of others wounded has evoked a lot of emotion and debate in the United States about how government can effectively reduce the amount of gun violence in schools and places of worship. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., helped to spark the discussion when, in the immediate wake of the attack, she wrote to her 3.5 million Twitter followers, "What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don´t even keep the pews safe?" She clarified the tweet by writing, "´Thoughts and prayers´

It seems to me that the vast majority of mass shooters have either been on law enforcements radar in the past or someone around them suspects they may do something. Many of them are over the edge mentally ill. Our problem is human behavior not guns. A gun is an inanimate object and can not do anything without a human behind it.

Was this really a terrorist attack or a one off nut job mass shooting?

As usual, the ability of NZ elites to have armed protection is well preserved in their laws. Ya always gotta protect the big shots. The little guy-not so much.

Gooberment employees (elected or otherwise) will never recognize that it is people who kill other people. The method they use will vary only by what is most easily available. Britain is the latest example of guns not being easy to obtain, so knives are used. I have never seen a lone gun out on the street shooting people. Guns are always attached to a human.

Pointless and uninformative article. Chicago has some of the tightest gun control in the world yet we read about the weekly gang wars that end in childrens´ deaths. You can not physically prevent lunatics from obtaining firearms, especially if you can not prevent criminals from entering your country at will.

The only effective solution is to identify potential lunatics before they reach killing age but some of them have learned to hide it well and society dictates that they not be formally identified. Embarrassment for the family you know. No method is foolproof as we have seen so often by the failure of the TSA to discover many weapons and we give them very expensive detection equipment. The 2nd Amendment and the right for the average citizen to carry a weapon is the best way to ensure a fighting chance when a lunatic decides to go off the deep end.

The God-given right to freedom and self defense outweighs all laws. Don´t mess with it. AOC and other government drones are welcome to give up their SS protection at any time if they don´t like weapons.

As we have seen for years, the left will make any event an excuse to attack gun ownership. There is no sense trying to understand their logic or reasoning- there isn´t any. They are just emotionally attached to gun control and reason or critical thinking does not enter the picture.

Restrictive gun laws won´t save lives. Guns do not go out and kill people anymore than a fork and spoon make people obese. Stupid arguments like Cortez contends won´t save one life. Stop abortions that´s worse than one mass public murder. The left loves to kill babies but gets appalled when a mentally unstable person acts out with violence against a certain group of people. Three thousand or more of innocent working American people were killed with box cutters and jet planes flown into buildings and not one gun was involved.
Go weep and tweet all you want, Cortez, I´m not interested in all your daily blather.

They know laws won´t work. At least the leaders do. The gullible, willing sycophants will just parrot the leadership, with feeling.

Their goal is 100% banning, confiscation, "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ´em all in.". So they pass law after law, demanding one thing after another, and attacks will just continue. So, when it is obvious that laws will NEVER stop the attacks, they´ll turn to the case that ONLY full confiscation can possibly work.

Of course that won´t either, but they´ll get many law-abiding people to turn their´s in. That´s the end goal, to enable the final stage of socialism. Cramming down their dictates by force, upon a populace no longer able to effectively resist.

I have thought about this scenario for some time but still come to the same conclusion. I can think of nothing that could stop a person from causing bodily harm to another individual. A gun is just handy but not required to get the job done. Remove guns and they´ll get a knife, been proven. Get a car and mow down ennocent bystanders, that´s been proven. One could go on ad nauseum but if a motivated individual is bent on destruction it will happen. We had some measure of control over those unstable, but some decided it wasn´t fair and did away with them. It´s once again choice time. Develope safety mechanisms again to regain civil control or coexist with the maniacs. Remember though repeating a behavior expecting a different outcome....

Washington — Reiterating that special counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of President Trump´s 2016 campaign colluding with Russia, Attorney General William Barr defended Mr. Trump in a preemptive press conference ahead of the release of Mueller´s report, saying the president faced "an unprecedented situation" throughout the two-year investigation. "As he entered into office, and sought to perform his responsibilities as President, federal agents and prosecutors were scrutinizing his conduct before and after taking office, and the conduct of some of his associates," Barr said at the Thursday morning press conference. Soon, the dust will settle from special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, and Americans will have a fuller understanding of why prosecutors concluded there wasn’t evidence to establish that Donald Trump and Russia colluded to hijack the 2016 election. At that point, many voters exhausted by the fizzling of a two-year scandal, once billed as the next Watergate, will want to move on like a foodie from an empty-calorie shake. But a very important second phase of this drama is about to begin, as Attorney General William Barr, Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael Horowitz

What began as a serious inquiry into a potential world-historical calamity will on Thursday complete its turn into a combination of one of those really bad Washington conspiracy thrillers from the 1970s and ’80s that only a Communist could love. The release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s redacted report into Russian interference in the 2016 election won’t change the top-line finding of Attorney General William Barr’s four-page summary — namely, that Donald Trump and his campaign didn’t collude or conspire with the Kremlin.

After wheeling out a few cringe-inducing platitudes like ‘I don’t have a regular meditation practice’ Obama did say something genuinely interesting about where the Democrats are heading going into 2020. He warned that elements of the party were becoming a ‘circular firing squad’ who targeted those ‘straying from purity’ on a variety of issues. The crisis of the Democrats is becoming more evident each week. Those of us who have been loudly predicting for years that the Russian-collusion argument would be exposed as a defamatory farce, and that the authors of it would eventually pay for it, are bemused at the fallback position of the Trump-haters: that the distinguished attorney general has whitewashed the president in his summary and his decision that there was no obstruction of justice. One of the most entertaining moments of news-watching in many years came last week, when former national intelligence director James Clapper said it was “scary”

While Christians have long challenged Charles Darwin’s theory of undirected evolution, few appreciate the true extent of the challenge beyond the church. Current estimates are that approximately one-third of professional academic biologists who do not believe in intelligent design find Darwin’s theory is inadequate to describe all of the complexity in biology. Ben Stein documented a crackdown within the academy on criticism of Darwin in his 2008 documentary “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.” While this might explain why the public rarely hears of challenges to Neo-Darwinism, the documentary centered on intelligent design. But the growing discontent in academia is from secular naturalists.

Sanders cited ridicule from CAP over the fact that he’s a millionaire. CAP promptly backed down, sort of. Its president, Neera Tanden, disavowed responsibility for the attacks by publications of CAP Action and by CAP’s website ThinkProgress. She said she disagreed with their tone. This is consistent with CAP’s approach all along to Sanders. The New York Times explained: Since Mr. Trump’s victory, Ms. Tanden [the head of CAP] has recast herself

Construction teams brought in a huge crane and a delivery of planks of wood to the site Wednesday morning. Firefighters are still examining damage and shoring up the structure after Mondays fire collapsed the cathedrals spire and destroyed the roof. French President Emmanuel Macron ratcheted up the pressure by setting a five-year deadline to restore the 12th-century landmark.
