Burning with the velocity of a prairie fire on a gusty Indiana day, Pete Buttigieg scorched the airwaves, seared the podcasts, and charred the press this week as he ignited his presidential campaign, temporarily torching his Democratic competition in the process. The secret to Buttigieg’s publicity run was no secret, wrote Matthew Yglesias in Vox. Like Molly Bloom in his favorite novel, Ulysses, he can’t stop saying “yes”—to media invitations.(Snip)Was it only weeks ago that the press began swooning for O’Rourke like a drunken conventioneer, writing about him with the same frequency it does for Buttigieg today?

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told CNN´s Dana Bash on Thursday that the Mueller report does not demand Trump´s impeachment: "Based on what we have seen to date, going forward on impeachment is not worthwhile at this point," Hoyer told Bash off-camera. "Very frankly, there is an election in 18 months and the American people will make a judgment." (Video) Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the chair of the House intelligence committee who has been pursuing Trump since he became president, also hedged on impeachment Thursday, telling CNN: Well, you know, that decision (impeachment) is above my pay grade, but

Indiana farmers uncover ancient mastodon bones

Workers installing a new sewer on an Indiana farm made a mammoth discovery this week — 13,000-year-old mastodon bones. The Schepman family of Seymour first thought cow or chicken remains had been found during the renovations, but when they saw a giant tusk and 4-foot-long thigh bones, they realized the beast was much larger and more ancient. “It’s amazing to think about something this large roaming around this area,” Joe Schepman told the Seymour Tribune. “The weight of them is unbelievable,” he said while holding a bone. “When the tusks were on the animal, they were about 9 feet long

Fifteen months from now, Democrats will nominate their least electable (with the possible exception of Kamala Harris) candidate for U.S. president, who will then go down in flames. This is not just because he´s a Castro-loving nut who traveled to Russia to bond with his fellow commies in the 1980s — voters have short memories and will forgive or ignore history that ancient. And Democrats themselves would not lose sleep over the irony of pitching Crazy Bernie after years of collusion delusion. The specific reasons for Crazy´s pending loss (if he lives that long) are as follows.

As special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s two-year, $34 million investigation into the Trump campaign’s supposed “collusion” with Russia in 2016 turns out to be the “nothingburger” it was always believed to be, the investigation at least did reveal the Left’s ongoing inability to accept the results of the 2016 election.(Snip) Chief among them is Tom Steyer, a former hedge fund manager turned Democratic mega-funder. Steyer, better known for his insistent pushing of an environmentalist (and given his investments, totally altruistic) agenda, is now the key funder behind the impeachment cabal, even after Mueller’s report greatly diminished the likelihood

Now that the Mueller report is out, Democrats are in a quandary. Unable to admit that they were utterly wrong about sleazy Democratic operative Robbie Mook´s original Trump-colluded-with-the-Russians-to-steal-the-election-from-Hillary Clinton narrative, they´re now scanning every nook and cranny of the Mueller report to find something useful to use to impeach the president on. A very good analysis from the San Francisco Chronicle´s John Wildermuth and Tal Kopan, points to how problematic that is, given that the report had far fewer redactions to holler about than they´d hoped:

The Housing and Urban Development told Congress it plans to scrap a Bill Clinton rule that allowed illegal aliens to get public housing assistance. This is part of President Donald John Trump´s plan to remove bad policies from all prior presidents, not just Obama. The Washington Times reported we stopped asking more than 20 years ago people if they are citizens or if they are even here legally. Taxpayers just shelled housing subsidies out, no questions asked. The money goes to landlords, who had no incentive to check whether a renter is legal or not.

Having debated whether to boycott Bill Barr´s press conference on the Mueller Report, the press decided instead to boycott reality. Many in the media now portray the report as worse than an indictment. They want to salvage something because they bet the farm on his indictment and wound up as losers. The Washington Post declared, "Mueller´s report paints a damning portrait of Trump´s presidency." Gee, 17 Democrat lawyers are forced to admit they have nothing on him, and so they shoved a lot of unsubstantiated (and insignificant) gossip to pad their report.

In response to media inquiry and FOIA demands, the government of Australia formally admitted today to the role of High Commissioner Alexander Downer and his engagements with George Papadopoulos in 2016. The timing coincides with the Mueller Report (released today), which states it was information about this engagement from Alexander Downer that opened the FBI counterintelligence investigation in July 2016. The Australian government cited the conclusion of the Robert Mueller special counsel investigation as the background for their willingness to comply with an 15-month-old FOIA request from Buzzfeed News.

The pot-banging crowds lined busy Avenida San Martin on a weekday afternoon, shouting his name: “Guaidó! Guaidó! Guaidó!” A caravan of armored vehicles pulled up. Throngs broke through a rank of police officers to get close to the man. Juan Guaidó stepped out, leaped atop a pickup truck and seized a microphone. “I’m not asking you to trust me, but to trust yourselves,” he said. “It’s our job to reclaim our lives, our normalcy and our Venezuela.” The crowd erupted in cheers. This is not how it was supposed to go for Guaidó.

The Mueller, redactions and all, is out. The conclusion is no collusion or something like that. Nevertheless, there is a still a man out there who claims that collusion did happen. His name is Representative Adam Schiff or "The Media’s Pin-Up Doll" as Julie Kidd calls him: An original architect of the Trump-Russia collusion fable since the summer of 2016, Schiff shamelessly continues to lie to the American public with claims that the president and his team conspired with the Kremlin to win the presidential election.

Now that people are starting to absorb the intent and motivations of the Special Counsel investigation, it’s worth remembering Robert Mueller interviewed President Donald Trump six days after the FBI launched a criminal “obstruction of justice” investigation, and ten months after the FBI launched the counterintelligence investigation…. ..The May 16, 2017, Mueller meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office. The Mueller Report shows there never was a Trump Russia-Collusion-Conspiracy case to begin with; and with the report showing how most of Mueller’s investigative time was spent gathering evidence for an ‘obstruction case’;

Attorney George Conway, husband of White House aide Kellyanne Conway, called on Congress to remove President Donald Trump from office following the Thursday release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. “What the Mueller report disturbingly shows, with crystal clarity, is that today there is a cancer in the presidency: President Donald J. Trump,” Conway wrote in a Washington Post opinion-editorial. “Congress now bears the solemn constitutional duty to excise that cancer without delay.” The frequent Trump critic went on to argue that Mueller’s findings lay out how the president committed wrongdoing disqualifying him from the presidency. “The investigation that Trump tried to interfere

In April 2019 letter Pope emeritus Benedict wrote an article describing how the church lost the ability to govern itself and found many of its formation centers turned into hatcheries for sexual abusers. Efforts to reverse the trend were dismissed conservative claptrap. "Pope John Paul II, who knew very well the situation of moral theology and followed it closely, commissioned ... an encyclical that

Well, the day has come. The Mueller report has been released and guess what; Attorney General William Barr’s summary was accurate. There was no collusion. There was no conspiracy. On the obstruction charges, there wasn’t enough evidence to bring forward formal charges. Here is where Democrats will make their last stand. Obstruction junction is ahead. It’s the only thing the Left can keep going from this clown show. I’m all for it. The longer the liberal media looks like idiots, the better it is for us. And if the Russian collusion myth was bad,

Buildings like Notre Dame do not erupt into flames spontaneously. That’s not how God works, even to punish a civilization as deep in moral ruin as ours. My suspicions, and those of almost everyone I know, are hardly calmed when we see Fox News—yes, even Fox—repeatedly refusing to host an honest discussion of the possibility, even as experts tell French TV that eight hundred year old timber simply doesn’t burn that way without an accelerant. I mean, it’s not as though news networks restrain their hosts from wild speculation during other crises. So, understandably, the first reaction from anyone who has

After 22 months and $32 million, a team of 19 prosecutors with twice as many staff members, wielding 2,800 subpoenas, 500 witnesses, and 500 search warrants, produced nothing multiplied by zero. Nothing except over 400 pages of allegations, innuendo and slime with a great big hole in the center. Mueller and his intrepid team of Democrats had set out to investigate a great conspiracy. After all those millions of dollars, the raids and indictments, there’s no collusion. When special counsel Robert Mueller finally finished his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, he produced a report that confirms much of the criticism President Trump has leveled at him during the past two years. It clearly reveals that Mueller’s partisan investigators were determined to “get Trump,” and that they were frustrated by their inability to do so. This is most obvious in the section dealing with obstruction of justice. As it is phrased in the Introduction to Volume II, “[T]his report does not conclude that the President committed a crime.” An honest evaluation would have stopped there.

Late last month President Trump met with a group of Republican senators on Capitol Hill. He discussed a lot of topics, but his most memorable comment came when he called Trump-Russia special counsel Robert Mueller´s investigation "two years of bulls*it." Now, the public has Mueller´s 448-page report, and it tends to support the president´s assessment. In this sense: At its heart, the Trump-Russia probe was about one question: Did the Trump campaign conspire, coordinate, or collude with Russia to influence the 2016 election? Mueller has concluded that did not happen.

It was Christmas again this week and all the Democrats got in their stockings were two or three lumps of coal. Or maybe it wasn’t Christmas, but Groundhog Day. The earlier summary of Robert Mueller’s findings was only a summary, after all, and everyone knew the actual report had all the good stuff. Mr. Mueller wouldn’t let us down. Ah, but he did. Great expectations dashed again. The Democrats, but for the dwindling number of grown-ups in the party of Jefferson, Jackson, Harry S.
