Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent issued a warning to countries looking to retaliate against the United States over the tariffs President Trump announced on “Liberation Day.” "Sit back, take a deep breath, don't immediately retaliate. Let's see where this goes, because if you retaliate, that's how we get escalation," Bessent told CNN, adding that “doing anything rash would be unwise.” (X Video)

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is threatening to file a lawsuit against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott because he has not yet called for a special election to fill a vacant House seat. The New York Democrat told NBC News it’s “very likely” his party takes legal action against the Republican governor, since no special election has been announced to fill the seat of the late Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died early last month. Jeffries believes Abbott is delaying the special election to benefit House Republicans, who only have a slim majority.

If only the NCAA Tournament had this much excitement. The NIT Championship game in Indianapolis between UC Irvine and Chattanooga came down to the final play of overtime. Trailing 85-84 with 2.4 seconds left in overtime, UC Irvine’s Devin Tillis tossed a full-court pass that was pulled in by Bent Leuchten. The 7-foot-1 center then fed the ball to a wide-open Jurian Dixon, whose rushed layup painfully rolled off the rim, giving Chattanooga its first NIT title. In the Arena of Make-Believe, I wish President Trump would show up at his press conferences with a five-inch high stack of 8x10 cards hand-lettered with a big fat Sharpie. Imagine this: Press member: "President Trump...Was your national security team derelict in their duty when they engaged in the Signal chat about bombing Houthis?" President Trump, shuffling through his index cards, pulls one out and holds it up. It says "PRESIDENT BIDEN, ARE YOU MENTALLY FIT TO PERFORM YOUR DUTIES?" Then he replies to the reporter, "Since you guys never asked him this, I'm claiming a pass. I'm not going to answer your question because you don't have enough professional credibility

The budget reconciliation package in the Senate is ready to move, and Republicans have the votes to push it through. It contains some red meat action items, like making the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent, funding to secure the border and the military, and honoring the ‘no tax on tips’ pledge. This package is why a shutdown or a 30-day continuing resolution pushed by Democrats was a non-starter. We needed the buffer to get this package hashed out because while the Senate seems ready, the House must also come together on the language (via Axios):

Then-Congressman Schumer said it was “the number one reason” illegals flood the country, to defraud and abuse our entitlement programs. This clip was making the rounds yesterday, which caught the attention of Elon Musk, who noted it was “pure gold,” while adding that 1996 Chuck Schumer was the right model. At the time, Rep. It remains to be seen if the proposal will be accepted, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has long rejected any deal that does not include Hamas’ complete defeat, including demilitarization and its permanent exit from Gaza.
