Twenty years ago, maybe even ten, I’d have found stories about the administration cutting grants to universities and detonating thousands of campus-related jobs horrifying. But the education sob stories now flying off the presses have a gigantic lie of omission. Take Johns Hopkins. NBC News was one of many to highlight the “grave consequences” the new administration’s policies have had on the famed institution, noting “the changes will also have an economic impact in Baltimore because the university is the largest private employer in Maryland.” NBC pointed out that “about half of Johns Hopkins’ funding last year came from federal research dollars, according to a letter

President Trump’s move against Voice of America, the executive branch agency that oversees it, and other U.S. international broadcasters and grantee media is an understandable reaction to decades of managerial lapses and an organizational structure that has remained immune to accountability and oversight for too long. On Friday night, Trump signed an order reducing the functions of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) to only those required by statute. His administration also moved to cut grants extended to Radio Free Asia and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty — nonprofit organizations that receive all their funding from USAGM — and suspend the full-time staff of VOA, which is a federal entity.

Trump knew that federal courts, with few exceptions, would oppose him. Most of the judges were appointed by Joe Biden and Barack Obama, and the cases have been filed in left-friendly districts like Boston, Maryland, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), leading the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, said that the latest declassified documents concerning President John F. Kennedy’s assassination suggest he sought assistance from the Soviet Union to address rogue elements within the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) prior to his untimely death. The declassification of approximately 80,000 pages related to the 1963 assassination has reignited debates over the circumstances surrounding Kennedy’s death. The first batch of the declassified files includes a 1967 memo detailing claims by former U.S. Army intelligence officer Gary Underhill, who alleged that a “small clique within the CIA”

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and now self-proclaimed advocate for government efficiency, has revealed a stunning financial scandal hidden within the depths of our government. Speaking on Senator Ted Cruz’s Verdict podcast, Musk disclosed the existence of what he calls “magic money computers.” During the explosive interview, Musk explained how these government computers can conjure up trillions of dollars out of thin air—completely detached from a synchronized network. According to Musk, 14 such machines have been uncovered across various agencies, mostly at the Treasury Department, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS),

Whenever someone gets around to cataloging the most lame-brained political idea, Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s decision to pass out free burner phones to CEOs in the state will forever top the list. Newsom has so far sent roughly 100 cellphones – with his direct line programmed in – to CEOs with a message that “if you ever need anything, I’m a phone call away.” “This was the governor’s idea to connect more directly with business leaders in the state,” spokesperson Izzy Gardon said.

An FBI agent and whistleblower critical of the bureau dating back to President Trump’s first term was arrested this week at JFK Airport and charged with illegally disclosing classified intel when he circulated his draft of a book, according to court docs. Johnathan Buma, who worked in counterintelligence, was taken into custody Monday just as he was about to hop on an international flight — and slapped with charges the following day alleging he printed confidential materials from the FBI and then shared the trove with associates in 2023, authorities said.

University of California leaders said Wednesday they are eliminating a years-old practice of requiring faculty job applicants to submit “diversity statements,” a move that comes after the Trump administration threatened to revoke federal funding from schools and universities that maintain diversity, equity and inclusion programs. As part of job applications or promotions, many departments at UC campuses have required job seekers to submit written testimonials of one or two pages about how they have worked to enhance and support racial and other kinds of diversity in their fields. The essay requests started to appear in some UC applications in the early 2000s and gained

Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Prime” that the Republican Party was “at war with the government of the people.” Raskin said, “The Republicans are in a full-blown attack on Medicaid. They want to cut $880 billion from the Medicaid program. Elon Musk has said Social Security, of course, is the big one. That’s the big target that they’re aiming for, and they are hollowing out all kinds of federal agencies and departments that the American people depend on, like NIH, which does the cutting edge medical research. And it’s now got swept up in their whole anti-science crusade. Same thing with, you know, the FAA.

During the past presidential election season, abortion stories were a hot ticket across the network evening news. The networks did everything in their power to try to make the issue a dispositive one, in the hopes of tilting the election to Vice President Kamala Harris. With the election now behind us, abortion stories are largely out of view. But the CBS Evening News changed that, at least for tonight. Watch as CBS gives sympathetic treatment to a midwife accused of illegally performing abortions in the state of Texas: SHAMLIAN: Court documents charge that Rojas provided medication to induce an abortion

Another Donald Trump presidential term, another spate of violence going largely ignored — or even smirked at — by Democrats and their media friends. Tesla dealerships are being firebombed and shot at, while Tesla vehicles are vandalized and their owners assaulted. Trump-supporting influencers are getting “swatted,” set up for dangerous police encounters by opponents who phone in hoax distress calls. Relatives of Trump-aligned public figures — including the sister of US Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett and Elon Musk’s brother — are receiving bomb threats. This cannot go on.

The Trump administration finally nabbed an immigration activist who ran from federal agents for years and hid in churches where she was shielded from arrest. Jeanette Vizguerra, a 53-year-old Mexican mom of four, was once named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People for hiding from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in a Colorado church. After years of chasing her down, ICE finally got their hands on Vizguerra Monday when she was in the parking lot of the Target store in Denver where she worked, according to Jordan Garcia, another immigrant-rights activist, told the New York Times.

Twenty years ago, maybe even ten, I’d have found stories about the administration cutting grants to universities and detonating thousands of campus-related jobs horrifying. But the education sob stories now flying off the presses have a gigantic lie of omission. Take Johns Hopkins. NBC News was one of many to highlight the “grave consequences” the new administration’s policies have had on the famed institution, noting “the changes will also have an economic impact in Baltimore because the university is the largest private employer in Maryland.” NBC pointed out that “about half of Johns Hopkins’ funding last year came from federal research dollars,

L.A.’s financial problems exploded into a full-blown crisis on Wednesday, with the city’s top budget official announcing that next year’s shortfall is now just shy of $1 billion, making layoffs “nearly inevitable.” City Administrative Officer Matt Szabo advised the City Council to focus on cost-cutting measures, including a potential reduction in the size of the workforce, to bring the budget into balance for 2025-26. Szabo, in his presentation to the council Wednesday, attributed the city’s financial woes, in part, to increased spending on legal payouts, which have ballooned over the last few years. Tax revenues have been coming in much weaker than expected

Earlier this month the Trump administration canceled $400 million in grants to Columbia University. In a subsequent move, the timing of which may or may not have been coincidental, Columbia finally punished students who had taken over an academic building last spring. Six students were expelled and 16 more were suspended or had their degrees revoked. Also last week, the Trump administration sent the school a letter outlining 9 things it needed to do if it wanted the grants restored. Here's the full list: Enforce existing disciplinary policies.
