Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has expressed that he likely would have been diagnosed with autism as a child, if assessed today. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, ahead of the release of his memoir Source Code, the 69-year-old shared insights into his childhood behaviours that he now recognises as characteristics associated with autism. Gates explained, “This whole thing of Asperger's or on the spectrum is a fairly new thing, you know? It used to be autism had a fairly narrow definition that was you know clearly identifiable,” he said.

After President Donald Trump visited Hurricane Helene-devastated areas in western North Carolina and pledged massive support along with executive orders to address FEMA's myriad failures, he headed to California to see the wildfire-impacted parts of Los Angeles.
As we reported, Trump and the state's Democrat governor, Gavin Newsom, have been engaging in a cross-country war of words well before Trump's inauguration over Newsom's atrocious handling of the Golden State's money, manpower, and natural resources.
Trump has, in a nutshell, accused "New-scum" of doing a terrible job, while Newsom went whining to then-President Joe Biden about Trump allegedly spreading "misinformation,"

Mitch McConnell is still the senior Senator from Kentucky, but the 82-year-old—who has been serving since 1985, when Wham's "Careless Whisper" was the top song—stepped down from his role as Senate GOP Leader in November. He’s also experienced several health scares, including two disturbing “freezing” episodes in July and August of 2023, as well as a concussion from a fall.
Throughout Donald Trump’s first term and during Biden’s presidency, he’s been a dubious ally. While he garnered some acclaim for his relentless pushing of conservative justices for confirmation, he’s been an unreliable backer of “45” – now “47.”

When the Senate voted 51-49 yesterday to advance Pete Hegseth’s nomination as Secretary of Defense, I assumed he was in. But I learned earlier today that there was grave doubt about his confirmation, because two more Republican senators–in addition to Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski–were likely to vote No.
So tonight’s vote held plenty of suspense. Only when Thom Tillis of North Carolina announced that he was a Yes did Republicans breathe a sigh of relief. Mitch McConnell was the other potential turncoat, and he did, indeed, vote No, along with Collins and Murkowski. So the tally was 50-50, and JD Vance broke the tie in Hegseth’s (and Trump’s) favor.

One of the reasons for public disgust with government today at all levels is the obvious incompetence of government today. Governments are proving themselves increasingly incompetent at basic tasks, like preserving social order, preventing crime, defending borders, or building public works projects (like California’s high-speed rail, to pick a spectacular example of incompetent excess), while thinking they have the competence to control the planet’s temperature, and make everyone equal by controlling language and setting up endless official ministries of equity.

This one leaves me reeling.
Target, the super-liberal upper-middle class mecca where you can buy eggs, TVs, garden implements, and tuck-friendly bathing suits for children, is dropping its DEI program AND its--ahem--target of increasing suppliers based on racial demographics. Tarjaayy, as we jokingly call it due to its pretensions of being a much classier version of WalMart, has been about as liberal a corporate citizen (I hate that term, but it is very Target) as they come. If there is an alphabet cause it can latch onto, it will. Well, another one bites the dust.

Democrats in Washington are definitely on the back foot this week and they know it. It's obvious to anyone who is paying attention that Democrats are barely showing up.
As President Trump pushes aggressively to reshape the federal government, Democrats have retreated into a political crouch that reflects their powerlessness in Washington.
Far from rising up in outrage, the opposition party’s lawmakers have taken a muted wait-and-see approach as Mr. Trump tries to end birthright citizenship, halt diversity programs in the federal government, undo foreign policy alliances and seek retribution against his perceived political enemies....

The Department of Defense has ordered a pause on all of its official social media accounts, unless the posts elevate the second Trump administration’s mission at the southern border or are informational updates, according to three U.S. defense officials.
The officials told NBC News that an official memo detailing the guidelines was distributed Friday, but that service members and non-military employees had been told through word of mouth to stand down on issuing posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, or updates on any other official social media accounts beginning on Thursday. Many DoD social media accounts had already gone quiet by the time the memo went out.

President Donald Trump’s Justice Department on Friday dropped the Biden administration’s criminal case against Dr. Eithan Haim, who blew the whistle on the transgender procedures being performed on minors at Texas Children’s Hospital in 2023.
The indictment was dismissed with prejudice, according to a court filing. To dismiss with prejudice means a legal claim is permanently dismissed.
“The case has been dismissed with prejudice so that the federal government can never again come after him for blowing the whistle on the secret pediatric transgender program at Texas Children’s Hospital,” defense attorney Marcella Burke of Burke Law Group told National Review. “This fully vindicates Dr. Haim.”

The Trump administration is beginning to fly criminal illegal aliens out of the country after rounding them up as part of the long-promised mass deportation program.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Friday that deportation flights have started and shared two pictures of what appears to be group of illegal immigrants walking into a military aircraft.
“Deportation flights have begun,” Leavitt said on X.
“President Trump is sending a strong and clear message to the entire world: if you illegally enter the United States of America, you will face severe consequences.”

Border czar Tom Homan said Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “The Will Cain Show” that deportation operations have begun in sanctuary cities.
Cain said, “But, on the other hand, Tom, in order to enforce this bill or any other ICE or Border Patrol measures, you’re going to have to deal with sanctuary cities, cities like Chicago. What are you going to do with sanctuary cities?”
Homan said, “Well, President Trump’s going to take action on them and like he did the last administration, we got to remove federal funding from them. Why are we giving them SCAT funding and other law enforcement funding when we’re not performing the law enforcement

The Trump administration wants four 10,000-bed detention centers to hold illegals as they are processed for repatriation to their home countries.
The planned new facilities would more than double the current holding capacity among the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 14 current sites.
The plans were revealed in a selection of Customs and Border Protection documents reviewed by the Washington Post.
The costs of this expansion would likely be in the billions, funds that are currently not in CBP budgets. The funds needed would have to be provided by an act of Congress.
