The Confirmation Wars

Original Article

If you know anything about Washington, D.C., you know that lying and backstabbing are routine. Your enemies lie, and, often, your friends lie -- or those you assume are friends. In Washington, hidden motives are a given. Sleight of hand is a card shark’s trick perfected in D.C. When it comes to confirming Matt Gaetz as attorney general, Pete Hegseth as DoD chief, Tulsi Gabbard as DNI director, Kristi Noem at Homeland Security, and John Ratcliffe at CIA, it’s a given that hyperpartisan Democrats are going to fight their nominations. That’s as sure as it gets. But then there are establishment Republicans and pliable conservatives with hidden agendas, too.

Concerning John Ratcliffe, if he is such a good friend of Trey Gowdy, I’m not sure I can trust him. Trey Gowdy I hates conservatives. It’s in his DNA.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday that President Joe Biden “still stands” by his claim that President-elect Donald Trump is an “existential threat,” even though he also wants a peaceful transfer of power. Jean-Pierre was asked about Biden’s earlier descriptions of Trump during the campaign, given his warm reception for Trump last week and seeming comfort with the idea of a man Democrats likened to Adolf Hitler returning to office. She said: There was an election when the American people spoke. The will of the American people were very clear, right? And so the president is now in a situation where we have to deal with

Russian President Vladimir Putin claims the ballistic missile strike on Ukraine on Thursday was the debut of a new ‘unstoppable’ weapon as he blamed the West for turning his invasion of Ukraine into a global war. Ukraine reported what it claimed as an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) strike on the central city of Dnipro on Thursday morning, prompting a flurry of global concern at what could be the first use of a true ICBM in anger in history. Yet Western governments and intelligence agencies were apparently reluctant to openly acknowledge the claim, Russia itself refused comment, and eventually even Ukraine itself cast doubts on its own assertions.

'I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect.' Gaetz, a unequivocal supporter of President Trump, had earned respect from the president-elect despite the salacious allegations that followed him.

It followed a new allegation that the embattled Republican had a threesome that involved a minor. The announcement came a day after the House Ethics Committee deadlocked on releasing a report into allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal drug use by Gaetz. President Biden and Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas seem to think their border policies haven’t done enough damage to the country, so they’re racing to ensure even more harm after they leave. With just two months to go before Team Trump takes over, the Biden crew is getting set to roll out an ICE app — starting in New York in December — that’ll let illegal migrants skip periodic, in-person check-ins that are required while they wait for court dates that could be years off. Right now, those who miss in-person check-ins are subject to deportation. But those who “check in” by app won’t be, making it harder to deport

The left really is having a difficult time coping with Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 elections. Some celebrities have even "moved out" of the country. On Wednesday evening, we learned that comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her partner Portia de Rossi have moved to rural England. Both before the November 5 presidential election and after, there’s been plenty of talk about President Joe Biden stepping down and making Vice President Kamala Harris America’s first female president. Despite ardent backing from Democratic Party stalwarts, the idea isn’t a popular one, as the latest I&I/TIPP poll indicates. Some Democrat activists, humbled by the Electoral College drubbing they took from former (and soon to be current) President Donald Trump, have pushed hard to have the age-hobbled Biden step down from the office of the presidency so that Kamala can take over and make history —

What does “resistance” look like? When Denver isn’t busing illegal aliens to New York and Chicago, its mayor is trying to act like enforcing American immigration law and deporting illegal aliens is Tiananmen Square all over again. The mayor also takes heart that the people of Denver — not just the administration — would likely resist a mass deportation effort from federal forces. “More than us having DPD stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston said. “It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right?”

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas officials, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity over the war in Gaza and the October 2023 attacks that triggered Israel’s offensive in the Palestinian territory. The decision turns Netanyahu and the others into internationally wanted suspects and is likely to further isolate them and complicate efforts to negotiate a cease-fire to end the 13-month conflict. But its practical implications could be limited since Israel and its major ally, the United States,
