Biden defends hurricane response amid
criticism of slow-walking relief

A defensive President Biden on Thursday disputed criticism that his administration was caught off-guard by Hurricane Helene, insisting that he had a plan in place even before the deadly storm made landfall. “Days before the storm hit, I pre-positioned extensive resources on the ground throughout the Southeast, extensively — first responders, search and rescue teams, food, water, ambulances — before Helene made landfall,” Mr. Biden said after touring the damage in Ray City, Georgia. He said he approved disaster relief funding before the storm hit, unlocking federal aid for the states impacted by the storm, which includes Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Biden hurricane response gets an F. I wonder how many days Joe would last without food, water, communications, electricity. This hurricane has been a major catastrophe. The inland states did not suspect they would be getting hit so hard, as their estimates that the storm would dissipate as it moved over land were wrong. With a Category 4, it did not dissipate, and many were caught unprepared, and did not evacuate. The wind destroys a lot, electricity and road debris. But flooding causes the most destruction, and these states got a lot of flooding, and major losses. The Biden administration should be held accountable for their brazen and arrogant disregard of the victims plight from this storm.

I am old enough to remember Katrina. I thought it unfair to blame Bush for everything, especially since the local city and state government assistance efforts collapsed after five minutes. Lots of problems to overcome and things not anticipated. The one thing that I do blame the current administration for is telling private citizens that they have to stay out of the way, even though they could easily help.

#2 Yes, like closing the air space for 4 hours so Diapers could make an appearance while helicopters sat on the ground and people did without food, medication and water.

#2, and if I remember correctly, wasn't George W Bush told to postpone his visit? Wasn't there some kind of altercation? Wasn't Mitch Landrieu that person? Could someone refresh my memory, please?

Ex FEMA director James Lee Witt advised Governor Landrieu to hold off asking for a Declaration. I think he had also started a debris hauling company at the time which is very profitable after a hurricane hits.

Biden Suggests Netanyahu is Tampering

Is Bibi Netanyahu making decisions regarding Israel's response to Iran's recent missile attacks in an effort to interfere in the US presidential election? That seems to be Joe BIden's read on the situation, at least based on comments he made this week in the White House press briefing room. Biden clearly appeared to be implying that Netanyahu is less interested in negotiating any sort of peace deal because of the pressure he's under to deliver a strong message to Iran. A peace deal would potentially undermine that message, possibly opening the door to additional aggression by Iran. Why Biden would weigh in on this discussion in such a fashion remains

FLINT, Michigan — Democrats across the country are fretting about Pennsylvania, a blue wall state that could crumble Vice President Kamala Harris’ most straightforward path to victory. But Michigan Democrats are also warning that their state hangs on a knife’s edge. Party leaders are anxious about the Great Lakes state slipping away as polls continue to show a close race with former President Donald Trump, even with the party’s renewed enthusiasm surrounding Harris’ candidacy. They worry that Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, are increasing their presence in Michigan and appealing to a swath of voters Harris is working hard to win over:

Standing on the very stage where his running mate narrowly avoided death, Republican vice presidential hopeful JD Vance admonished former President Donald Trump’s critics for stoking animosity against him. Vance, 40, called out Vice President Kamala Harris by name as well as the media for trafficking in “inflammatory rhetoric” against Trump that he contended has culminated in political violence. “With all the hatred they have spewed against President Trump, it was only a matter of time before somebody tried to kill him,” Vance bellowed out to a packed venue at the Butler Farm Show grounds Saturday.

Butler, Pa. — Former president Donald Trump delivered a speech that began more solemnly than most on Saturday, when he returned to the site of his attempted assassination for the first time to celebrate the unity and resiliency of his movement and the life of the man who was killed at his July rally. It’s been nearly three months since 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired on Trump during a rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds. Crooks shot at Trump from the top of a nearby building, grazing the former president in the ear, killing firefighter Corey Comperatore, and injuring two others.

President Biden warned that the money for a disaster aid loan program used by survivors of Hurricane Helene and other calamities will soon dry up without intervention from Congress. In a letter to the four congressional leaders on Friday, Mr. Biden said the Small Business Administration’s program is on the verge of going broke before Congress is slated to return after the Nov. 5 election. The loans are a “critical lifeline” that act as the “largest source of Federal disaster recovery funds,” he said, adding that $1.2 billion is needed to refill the program’s coffers. Lawmakers are out of town until Nov. 12. “I warned the Congress

Gang members brandishing automatic rifles stormed through a town in Haiti’s main breadbasket region, killing at least 70 and forcing over 6,000 to flee, causing widespread shock even in a country grown accustomed to outbreaks of violence. More people were severely injured in the attack in the early hours of Thursday at Pont-Sonde, in the agricultural region of Artibonite in western Haiti. Gran Grif gang leader Luckson Elan took responsibility for the massacre, saying it was in retaliation for civilians remaining passive while police and vigilante groups killed his soldiers.

I have long thought that one of the hallmarks of an advanced economy is built-in resilience to shocks to the system. As with so many things these days, that resilience has eroded to the point that, except in certain areas of the country like Florida, it hardly exists. You have probably seen many of the same videos I have, in which North Carolina residents are begging for help and wondering where FEMA is. Aside from funding migrants, that is. It seems to be doing a fine job at that, exhausting the funds that should be going to help Helene's victims. Why is FEMA so awful?

Minneapolis — One state audit found that bonus checks intended for frontline workers during the pandemic were handed out to undeserving recipients. Another criticized a Minnesota state agency for failing to ensure there were no conflicts of interest in taxpayer-funded mental health and addiction programs. A third detailed lax oversight of a program to feed needy kids which federal prosecutors say resulted in the nation’s largest Covid-era fraud scheme. But when confronted with these and other troubling examples of waste, fraud and abuse, some state agencies working under the administration of Democratic Gov. Tim Walz repeatedly minimized or dismissed the allegations, the state’s nonpartisan auditor, Judy Randall, told CNN.

I knew I smelled a stink badger in the perfume aisle when the Mockingbird media myrmidons weren't descending on the areas Hurricane Helene ravaged and weren't writing much about the storm either, despite the brutal stories of death and survival on X. Once upon a time, Anderson Cooper was eager to beclown himself for storm ratings. Those days are gone. I just went to CNN, and most stories were dedicated to brainwashing CNN's dwindling audience that Trump is a ghastly hobgoblin. Their most prominent story on the storm was "fact-checking" Trump's statement that the Biden-Harris administration was getting "universally negative" reviews on their hurricane response efforts, like this one:

Vice President Kamala Harris, already under fire for her indifference to the devastation of Hurricane Helene and the federal government's sluggish response, has now raised further eyebrows by recording an episode of the explicit “Call Her Daddy” podcast this week. At a time when Americans are grappling with the aftermath of a catastrophic storm as well as increased tensions in the Middle East, Kamala's priorities are completely out of whack. Although she has made some appearances on supportive media platforms, she has largely shied away from traditional press engagements and has done zero press conferences.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ), which serves as the supreme court of the European Union in matters of EU law, said this week that Romania had violated EU law by refusing to accept as valid a gender transition certificate obtained by Arian Mirzarafie-Ahi in Britain. The case was spurred after Mirzarafie-Ahi had requested a new birth certificate in Romania, however, the local court demanded that Mirzarafie-Ahi go through a new gender recognition process in Romania rather than accepting the documents from Britain, The Telegraph reports.

The hurricane was the first catastrophe in US history to hit two crucial swing states - North Carolina and Georgia - within just six weeks of a presidential election, according to Politico. It particularly devastated heavily Republican areas of the two states, giving Vice President Kamala Harris a potential edge over former President Donald Trump.
