Here it is: the biggest missed story of this century is the incredible dumbing down of the American public, to the point where a cripplingly large portion of the adult population is no longer willing or able to exercise independent critical thinking in order to take decisive action on a wide range of issues that shape the direction of our economy, culture, and personal freedoms. Indeed, too lazy and unmotivated to analyze readily available, credible data, far too many people have ceded their personal independence to government dictates — dictates clearly designed to increase government control over the population, rather than having been put in place for
Easier for some to be told what to think than to do it for themselves...hence JRB in the Whitehouse.

Many columns and essays have been written recently about Americans having become utterly incompetent. One of the main reasons is affirmative action and all its permutations such as CRT, DEI, SEL, etc. Instead of teaching critical thinking and a REAL education, two generations of idiots have come out of government schools. All they learn is how to be a victim, how to do perverted sex, and how to protest. It’s downright unAmerican.

FTA, the last paragraph - "The high proportion of self-absorbed, convenience-obsessed, unintellectually curious adults in America is the biggest story of the 21st century. This is what is driving the direction of the country and shaping our culture."
Take away any combination of their conveniences and then see what happens. Such as their iphones, credit cards, gasoline, electricity, natural gas, water, food, clothing, sporting events, internet, guns, 401k plans, bank accounts, liquor, and tv, then watch what drives the new direction of the country. If there is a country and a culture, that is.

Years ago, I read the short story "The Marching Morons" by Cyril Kornbluth which is about a 20th century man sent into the future where he finds the vast majority of people are dumb beyond belief. I never thought I'd be living in such a world myself

Even though politics is stuffed with incompetents and crooks, I blame the useless media for a majority of the destruction that's happening in this country. They absolutely REFUSE to tell the truth about nearly they scribble/screech about. People watch/read the usual suspects and take everything as the gospel, no matter how outrageous....''It was on tv, they wouldn't lie!'' I keep thinking Trump is our only hope, but can we last that long???

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I have been saying this for a long time. I have very little respect for the intellect pf the average American. THis has nothing to do with education level. It has to do with wisdom. The ability to look at a set of circumstances and come up with rational, insightful conclusions. There were few people better at this than Rush Limbaugh. Most people seem to have lost that ability completely. Such a nation cannot survive for long.

True. There are exceptions but the majority of young people don’t have a clue about history, civics or anything else that almost everyone knew 60-70 years ago.

Back in the 1960’s, some hippie nutcase (Abbie Hoffman, maybe) said “don’t trust anyone over 30.” Today, I would say don’t trust anyone under 40. They’re morons.

I am intimately acquainted with the current low state of our education. I am glad I finished my schooling before the progressives took over. I am unfit for reeducation.
