Fifty years ago, in 1973, a cross-cultural phenomenom occurred. A Spanish folk group from the Basque region lost the Eurovision contest to singer from Luxembourg, who sang a lesser-remembered tune: “Tu Te Reconnaitras,” thus proving that cultural contests are often worthless barometers of taste.
The runner-up loser was the group Mocedades which sang “Eres Tú.” Within months the losing, but quite catchy, tune became a worldwide phenomenom. It reached number 9 on the U.S. charts, which was amazing, given our American tendency to live in a bubble of monolingualism. Some translated versions were made, and they were just pitiful.

The Giant Food store in Ward 8 of Washington, DC is apparently the only supermarket in that area and now it could end up closing due to rampant theft.
People who live in the area are worried that it may end up becoming a food desert.
This is where this issue of unpunished crime has been headed for months. How are stores supposed to stay open and operate if they are victims of constant theft? Concerns are growing in Washington, D.C. about some major grocery stores being able to keep their doors open due to shoplifting.

We have all heard about contempt of court and contempt of Congress. They are offenses for which one may be fined or jailed. But what about contempt of public? What’s the penalty for that?
I don’t know that you will find contempt of public in the statute books. If not I offer up the phrase free and for nothing to the bureaucrats who look after such things. I think it should be added to our vocabulary if not to our code of laws. It names a grievous assault on the community. By making a travesty of the rules and institutions that undergird our social life, contempt of public

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), a former Trump impeachment prosecutor, gave a stunning explanation for why U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss gave Hunter Biden immunity in a failed plea agreement last month on tax and gun charges: To protect Biden from prosecution by a “vindictive” Donald Trump should he win the 2024 presidential election–thereby confirming that politics is indeed playing a role in decisions by Weiss and Attorney General Merrick Garland who appointed Weiss as special counsel on Friday in the Hunter Biden case. Goldman made his remarks Sunday morning on CNN’s State of the Union in an interview with host Jake Tapper.

The Biden crime family’s multi-million-dollar bribery and money-laundering operation has more moving parts than an 80-year-old grandfather clock. Fani Willis, the Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney, is seemingly intent upon being the next Alvin Bragg, as she busily puts together an indictment based on questionable facts, currently mysterious legal theories, and, most importantly, leaks to the media. It’s the last that concerns us today because CNN is very excited: On January 7, the outlet strongly imply, Donald Trump’s team, everyone from Rudy Guiliani to Sidney Powell, hacked into, or oversaw someone else hacking into, the Coffee County election software. Except that, according to CNN itself, that’s not what happened.

Failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s fondness for playing the victim has been well-established and when she took to Twitter/X to endorse a book chronicling decades of her perceived persecution at the hands of the vast right-wing conspiracy, she likely wasn’t expecting it to boomerang so badly.
On Saturday, the embittered sore loser of the 2016 election gave props to author Michael D’Antonio’s “The Hunting of Hillary: The Forty-Year Campaign to Destroy Hillary Clinton,” not a new release but a tome that nonetheless earned the approval of its subject who gushed over the political bestseller.

However, “inspired to write” is an understatement. Hammer on the head is more accurate since God knows my Jewish mother was a worrier — an Olympic gold-medal team member. I once bought her a decorative pillow with a Hebrew-like typeface that read, “Call your mother - she worries.” That proved the Jewish mother’s “worry gene” is pervasive enough to be branded on merchandise. The Illinois Supreme Court has found that a ban on assault weapons, passed after the hysteria generated by the July 4 mass killing in Highland Park, Ill., is legal.

Justice Elizabeth Rochford wrote, “First, we hold that the exemptions neither deny equal protection nor constitute special legislation because plaintiffs have not sufficiently alleged that they are similarly situated to and treated differently from the exempt classes. Donald Trump had hardly made it down the escalator in 2015 by the time political commentators had begun to search for ways to explain away his appeal to the public. Eight years later, the search continues — and the stubborn persistence of What’s The Matter With Kansas? reduxes suggests that most of it has been in vain.
