Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was on vacation in Portugal for a week amid tense negotiations to avert a national rail strike earlier this year, it was revealed on Wednesday.
The trip spanned August 29 through the following Monday, Labor Day, a statement by the Department of Transportation to DailyMail.com confirms.
A spokesperson for the department said he was 'traveling on personal time' but remained 'engaged on urgent issues.'
They said the trip had been 'long planned' in advance.
It was reported earlier this week that Buttigieg took at least 18 flights on taxpayer-funded private jets since joining the Cabinet, despite leading calls to cut CO2 emissions.

Joe Biden on Wednesday apologized for the 'unimaginable cruelty' of slavery, which he referred to as America's 'original sin', and pledged $55 billion in investment to the continent.
Speaking during a gathering of almost all African leaders in Washington DC - the first since Barack Obama convened a summit in 2014 - Biden expressed regret for the past, but insisted: 'The United States is all in on Africa's future.'
During a White House dinner honoring African leaders and their spouses, Biden addressed what he called America's 'original sin' - the enslavement of millions of people - and honored their descendants and the broader African diaspora community in the United States.

Puerto Ricans could move a step closer to a referendum on whether the island should become a U.S. state when the House of Representatives votes Thursday on a bill outlining the process.
A House committee approved the Puerto Rico Status Act on Wednesday, paving the way for the full House vote. The bill was cosponsored by Representative Nydia Velazquez, a Democrat from New York.
The legislation lays out terms of a plebiscite as well as three potential self-governing statuses - independence, full US statehood or sovereignty with free association with the United States.

In a so-called “documentary” from daughter Alexandra Pelosi, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked a question many Americans have likely answered under their breath or in the privacy of their living room while watching the news or various political events — like the State of the Union.
“Am I a b****?” asked the 82-year-old Democrat, during a call with then-Vice President Mike Pence.
The question was part of a scene in a glowing film Alexandra is making of her mother, “Pelosi in the House,” according to footage reviewed by Politico Playbook — the film aired Tuesday night on HBO.
Talk about bias, Politico may have tipped its hand a bit while setting the scene:

100 Percent Fed Up exclusive – Benny Thompson, chairman of the Jan 6 (Witch Hunt) Committee, has officially withdrawn the subpoena request on behalf of the committee for Mike Lindell’s phone records after he filed a lawsuit against the unpopular Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. (Snip)We spoke with Mike Lindell, who explained that he sued the “unselect committee” almost immediately after he received their subpoena. “Sorry, but you’re not getting my records,” Mike said, adding, “It’s against the constitution, and I wasn’t even there!” Mike was referring to the Capitol building, which he was nowhere near when it was breached.

The FBI’s coordination with social media companies ahead of the 2020 presidential election, revealed in Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files,” is galvanizing long-held suspicions that the FBI ran defense for then-candidate Joseph R. Biden as his links to son Hunter Biden’s potentially illegal business schemes emerged.
Mr. Musk’s steady drip of internal documents has exposed the extent to which the FBI worked with company executives to moderate content on the platform. It included weekly meetings with Twitter executives before the company suppressed the New York Post’s October 2020 report exposing emails found on Hunter Biden’s now-infamous laptop computer.

Former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) became choked up on Wednesday as he spoke about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) at a ceremony for the unveiling of Pelosi’s speaker’s portrait.
Boehner, who is known for crying, was speaking during the event about his and his family’s appreciation for Pelosi, whom he succeeded in 2011, when Boehner became tearful.
“Madam Speaker, I have to say, my girls told me, ‘Tell the speaker how much we admire her,’” Boehner said as tears filled his eyes and the crowd applauded.
He then added with a laugh, “If you couldn’t tell, my girls are Democrats.”

When alleged crypto-fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried finished testifying at a congressional hearing last December, Democrat Maxine Waters, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, blew him a kiss as he walked by.
And why not, since the shambolic 30-year-old former multibillionaire is acknowledged to be the second-biggest donor to the Democrats, after George Soros.
He helped bankroll Joe Biden into the White House and had promised to donate $1 billion to help the party win the 2024 presidential election.

Like any good parent, Sam Bankman-Fried’s mother and father have stood firmly behind their son from the beginning of his crypto career until his fall from grace, but their staunch support and recent courtroom antics have put them under heavy scrutiny.
Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, both professors at Stanford University, sat in the third row of Bankman-Fried’s extradition hearing in the Bahamas, where their animated expressions were in full view.
Bankman, who received payments from FTX and was heavily involved in the doomed platform’s operations, was seen sporadically plugging his ears throughout the process,

The United States military launched a Space Force unit in South Korea on Wednesday amid rising missile and nuclear threats from North Korea.
U.S. Space Forces Korea is the second overseas component of the Space Force, a military branch that was established in 2019. It will focus on real-time missile detection and tracking and will boost the deterrence capabilities of the Seoul-Washington alliance, U.S. Forces Korea said in a press release.
Seoul and Washington have ramped up their security cooperation amid a record-breaking number of North Korean missile tests this year, including last month's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile believed to be capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

According to a new documentary called “Pelosi in the House,” the soon-to-be former speaker told then-President Barack Obama in 2010 that Democrats got crushed at the ballot box because of the “white male thing,” asserting that they “get in a mood” when they are unemployed.
“Hey, Mr. President, not a good night,” Pelosi allegedly told Obama by phone on Nov. 2, 2010, according to the documentary filmed by the speaker’s daughter Alexandra Pelosi. In the documentary, she chronicles Pelosi’s rise through Congress and her iron-fisted achievements, including passing the Affordable Care Act, according to Fox News.

A new junky study claims unvaccinated people are at a higher risk of traffic accidents.
According to the new study published in The American Journal of Medicine, people who have refused the Covid vaccine are likely to “neglect basic road safety guidelines.”
The author of the study suggested insurance companies may use the findings to charge unvaccinated drivers higher premiums.
“The findings are significant enough that primary care doctors should consider counseling unvaccinated patients on traffic safety
