Xi Jinping, just starting a third term as head of China’s ruling Communist Party, is having a bad week. It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
In his first two terms, Xi cracked down hard on opposition to government policies, cut back on his predecessors’ economic liberalization and purged rivals to consolidate power. But now he faces grassroots protests across China, with large groups of demonstrators even calling for him to step down and Communist Party rule to end. Protesters aren’t just denouncing Xi, the party and the government’s heavy-handed COVID policies — they’re also objecting to rampant censorship by holding up blank sheets of paper. The government has tried

Friedman and the rest of the lefty media will be having a hard time explaining this cry for freedom development in China! The MSM is a disservice to Liberty while they seem to adore dictatorial tyrants in China and etc.. ...sad

It should, but it won't. Our Leftist overlords will console themselves with the belief that Xi just didn't handle things in the correct manner. Such as they are doing with their meat-puppet Bidet. As Rush always said, liberalism is a mental disorder.
Our prayers are with the Chinese people. May they be successful in their quest for freedom. May courageous and righteous leaders rise up from among them and lead them forward towards true liberty. May God bless them and set them free. Amen.

'But WE can do it better' is always the cry of the left. Communism doesn't fail if it were done right. Other than those who are truly malevolent or seeking power, those who admire communism display a truly remarkable ignorance of human behavior.

Professor Reynolds always speaks plainly and with eminent common sense. In that respect, he reminds me of another of my heroes, Thomas Sowell. For that matter Antonin Scalia was much the same way. He was brilliant, but his opinions are an easy read. Too bad Professor Reynolds hasn't been nominated to the Supreme Court. He'd be a tremendous asset to the Court. Of course, the leftist senators would crucify him in the Senate hearings. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.

The people of China are rejecting communism while the leftists in America are trying to force it upon US. Ain't that a shame. Fist raises for the Chinese demonstrators.
"with large groups of demonstrators even calling for him to step down and Communist Party rule to end."
Gee, we could do this with stealer joe and the demon party here in America!

Eileen Gu, the American-born snowboarder, who represented China in the Olympics, should stand next to President Xi-Ping in support of his regime.

""It’s kind of amazing the Chinese government hasn’t gone full Tiananmen Square on them yet""
Anyone who believes the Chicom tanks WOULD NOT roll is a fool.

I wasn't sure what to believe was really happening in China. Whatever real protests were happening were doomed. Everyone in China belongs to the State. The 'leader' of China has been gathering and concentrating his power for years. Many years ago he began requiring personal pledges of loyalty to him. I knew the tanks would roll. The only reason we are seeking it is because the Chicoms want the world to know that human beings are still just chattel, to be used however they need (organ transplants, not 'donors.' Donor implies volunteers. No one volunteers, they are volunTOLD, or just killed and organs harvested)
Google, and now Apple, have been assisting the Chicoms for years. Just as Stalin airbrushed people from history, the Chicoms could easily ‘brush’ a factory or a town from the records. Google and others would be happy to to ‘correct’ the record to match. The democRAT Party envies China’s ability to ‘get things done.’

The source of the Left's China envy is hypocrisy and America hate. Those are not going away anytime soon.

Dream on. These protests will only fuel their mission to be even tougher and more constricting of personal liberties.

One wonders whether intellectuals wrung their hands over the fate of "democracy" after any of the incidents occurring in the US over the past decades. This Chinese revolution is much like that long-anticipated Iranian uprising. It will be allowed to burn itself out with the help of the authoritarians. See Tienanmen Square '89 for an example. Some reforms may be allowed, and likely will. Some minor officials may be punished for "overzealousness." And that will be the end of it. Chinese culture is formed around a strong, authoritarian central power. Has been for millennia. It's not changing.
BTW: In today's news: Remember Jiang Zemin? He was the replacement for Zhao Ziyang in the wake of Tienanmen, who cracked down on the dissent while building China's "socialist market economy". China has become more capitalistic than the USA. See its "Belt and Road Initiative" for proof.
