A 48-year-old patient in New York City who is unable to move and speak due to severe paralysis from ALS became the first to receive a permanent brain implant that could allow him to communicate telepathically - a milestone for Synchron, the startup behind the technology, which beat Elon Musk's Neuralink to the punch with its advance.
The procedure took place July 6 at Mount Sinai West medical center in Manhattan, where a 1.5-inch long implant - a brain-computer interface (BCI) as a stentrode - made of wires and electrodes was implanted into the patient's brain without the need for cutting into their skull or damaging tissue.

Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler suggested on Tuesday that Justice Clarence Thomas did not suggest revisiting the Supreme Court ruling that legalized interracial marriage because he himself is married to a white woman.
Debate on the House floor grew heated as the Democrat-majority chamber prepares to advance its Respect For Marriage Act, aimed at codifying same-sex marriage.
The bill is a response to Thomas' concurring opinion in the high court's decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, which saw the right to an abortion stripped out of federal law and returned to state jurisdictions.

TEHRAN, Iran— Russian President Vladimir Putin won staunch support from Iran on Tuesday for his country’s military campaign in Ukraine, with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei saying the West opposes an “independent and strong” Russia.
Khamenei said that if Russia hadn’t sent troops into Ukraine, it would have faced an attack from NATO later, a statement that echoed Putin’s own rhetoric and reflected increasingly close ties between Moscow and Tehran as they both face crippling Western sanctions. NATO allies have bolstered their military presence in Eastern Europe and provided Ukraine with weapons to help counter the Russian attack.

Reportedly "arrested" for "civil disobedience" — that is, blocking traffic — outside the Supreme Court in protest of the recent Dobbs decision, more than 30 radical Democrats, including several lawmakers, took their antics a bit too far beyond the point of believability. (Tweet/Video) Here's video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) being led away from the front of the Supreme Court by Capitol Police officers with her hands behind her back as if in handcuffs... but then she raised her fist over her head revealing that the "arms-behind-your-back" look was pure choreographed political theater,

China's government warned on Tuesday it would take "forceful measures" if U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, after the Financial Times said she would go to the Chinese-claimed island next month.
Pelosi and her delegation will also visit Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, and spend time in Hawaii at the headquarters of U.S. Indo-Pacific command, the London paper added, citing people familiar with the matter.
The U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

American voters know that Hunter Biden was involved in some shady business deals and they believe Joe Biden benefited from these deals. A survey coming out this morning at 11 am from Rasmussen Reports confirms America’s perceptions of the Bidens.
Americans know about Hunter Biden’s corrupt deals overseas in Russia, Ukraine, and China. We have reported on these deals over the past few years. We never thought a family could be as corrupt as the Clintons but the Bidens may actually be.

A government ethics watchdog is now filing a lawsuit against the Department of Justice, accusing the department of “hiding” information from the public concerning the withholding of records about potential bias and conflicts of interest involving high-profile cases such as the Durham investigations and the probe into Hunter Biden and his business dealings.
Just the News is reporting that in June 2021, Protect the Public’s Trust filed a Freedom of Information Act request to the DOJ in order to obtain records from the agency’s Justice Management Division. It’s now been over a year and the department has not bothered to inform the watchdog

“End of the quote. Repeat the line.” Such is the senescence of the 46th president of the United States that when he is not flat-out misspeaking, it is because he is reading the cues as he stumbles through the see-Jane-run prose of White House speechwriters. Like life at 79, the teleprompts come at you fast.
We must bear this in mind when assessing how consequential it may be when the putative leader of the free world misspeaks. We gasp, yes, but it is probably not as damaging as one might fear.
Alas, that realization induces as much pang of regret as sigh of relief.

Sacramento's homeless population has spiraled out of control, soaring by 67 percent in just three years - pushing the numbers even higher than nearby San Francisco as photos show tent cities and communities of the unhoused living under bridges.
California's capital has just over 5,000 homeless people within the city limits, many living in vehicles and tents, compared to the 4,400 homeless people estimated to live in San Francisco.
However, the number becomes more stark when factoring in the city's population numbers - only 525,000 people live in Sacramento versus San Francisco's 874,000.

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) confirmed Monday on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” what his January 6 Committee colleague Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said days earlier.
According to the California Democrat lawmaker, witnesses continued “to come forward” to share information with the committee. Therefore, the committee could add more hearings.
Maddow said, “What should we understand in terms of how close to the end you are? We keep hearing from you and other members of the committee that there’s still more to find out, there’s still more to get to the bottom of, that the investigation has turned up a lot of stuff, actually, in recent days
