More than half of all Americans think it's 'likely' that America will 'cease to be a democracy,' a new poll found. The Yahoo News/YouGov poll shows that 55% of Democrats and 53% of Republicans share that belief in a stunning sign of pessimism about the country's future. Additionally the poll found that a majority of Republicans—52%—say it's likely that 'there will be a civil war in the United States in [their] lifetime' while half of independents—50%—and a plurality of Democrats—46%—agree.(Snip)Members of both parties picked negative phrases to describe the person across the political aisle.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called on oil companies to produce more oil and gas products as a 'patriotic duty' to counter rising prices amid Russia's war on Ukraine. Her message came after President Joe Biden accused big oil companies of seeing their profit margin triple on refining, amid global energy shortages and record gas prices. 'We see it as a patriotic duty ... as we've talked about, there's war happening right now. That was caused by Russia, which is why we're seeing these hikes in gas prices, especially since since Russia has amassed, started amassing troops, on the border [of Ukraine], she said.

President Biden marked Pride Month Wednesday by ordering federal agencies to craft “inclusive” school and foster-parent policies—while slamming states he accused of trying to curb medical options for transgender minors. Biden struggled to say LGBTQI+—saying “LGBTQL, I, excuse me, plus”—at the White House event that was so crowded that he encouraged attendees to “just sort of lean against one another” in lieu of sitting down.(Snip)The order charges the Department of Health and Human Services with “working with States on expanding access to gender-affirming care”— though it was not immediately clear if the agency would directly challenge GOP-led state governments that are pursuing restrictions.

Covid vaccines for the youngest Americans could be rolled out in a matter of days after the Food and Drug Administration recommended approving both the Moderna and Pfizer shots, despite some experts warning that they are not needed for children under the age of five.
On Wednesday, members of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee convened debated whether the benefits of Moderna and Pfizer outweigh the risks for America's 18million under-5s.(Snip)Some scientists have warned that children between the ages of six months and five years old face a vanishingly small risk of dying from Covid and that there is little demand for the shots.

President Biden's Energy Department has proposed a new rule that would require homeowners looking to buy a new furnace to install a 95 percent energy-efficient one within the next seven years.
The new rule would require that gas-burning residential furnaces be condensing gas furnaces, which reuse gas and water vapor that normal noncondensing furnaces vent into the atmosphere. It would require that all gas-burning furnaces on the market to be switched over by 2029.(Snip)The Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that the new furnaces will save households about $60 per year, a number that totals $30.3 billion over the next 30 years.

A Florida city council voted against removing two Confederate statues—which would have cost taxpayers $500,000—after a heated public hearing Tuesday night. Jacksonville City Councilman Matt Carlucci proposed a bill that would have taken down two monuments—a Daughters of the Confederacy memorial and the remnants of another Confederate soldier monument—arguing that they are a civic blight rooted in racism. But the board ultimately voted against the measure 13-6 following a passionate public debate.(Snip)“I stand for the preservation of Jacksonville’s history in all its totality without the slightest omission,” one speaker declared. “Please let us find another way to promote and foster unity and healing without

Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is joining the Biden administration in a senior White House role. Bottoms, who served as mayor from 2018 through 2021, will be a senior adviser to the president focused on public engagement, the White House announced Wednesday. President Biden will mark Pride Month Wednesday by mandating that federal agencies craft “inclusive” school policies and ensure that same-sex couples and transgender adults can foster children. Biden will sign an executive order that includes various other gay and transgender rights initiatives at an afternoon White House event with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, the first Senate-approved openly gay cabinet member.(Snip)For example, according to a White House fact sheet, the schools provision “directs the Department of Education to establish a new Working Group on LGBTQI+ Students and Families, which will advance policies for states, school districts, and other educational institutions to promote safe and inclusive learning environments

Congress has taken notice of the tampon shortage around the country, rooted in the supply chain crisis, and the high costs of fuel and raw materials. The shortage of feminine hygiene products surfaced as the Biden administration is still grappling with a nationwide shortage of baby formula. Rep. Yvette Clarke, New York Democrat and a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, said Tuesday that Congress needs “to do something about this supply chain dynamic.” Ms. Clarke confirmed that the shortage of feminine hygiene products has gone “beyond a whisper” among her female colleagues in Congress.

The US Navy has dismissed five commanding officers in the span of less than one week, with the latest firing being due to the officer's 'loss of confidence.' Cmdr. Peter Lesaca, of the destroyer USS Preble, was relieved from his role 'due to loss of confidence in his ability to command,' according to a Navy statement. 'Navy commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct,' the Navy said in a statement. 'They are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of these standards.' The Navy did not provide additional details

Doctors, teachers, engineers and other Afghans who were forced to associate with the Taliban will now have a chance at asylum or visas after the Biden administration loosened a terrorism-related designation on Tuesday, according to government officials and documents reviewed by the Los Angeles Times.(Snip)Some can be flagged with the terrorism designation for as little as paying their electricity bill to the Taliban, paying money to get through a Taliban checkpoint or obtaining a passport issued by the Taliban. Others can get the designation for having worked as civil servants under Taliban rule in the 1990s. Among them are Afghan citizens who assisted the U.S. government.

What exactly is “white supremacy”? People these days seem to have their own definition for this ever-present phrase, molding it into whatever suits their particular agenda. Since it appears to be fluid, I’d like to present another definition. White supremacy is a belief system that holds black people as continuous victims in a white-majority society, deeming them incapable without the benevolence of white people or the government and constantly portraying them as impoverished, weak-willed, overly emotional, mentally fragile and without fortitude. It fuels the idea that black people constantly need a helping hand because they will always be marginalized and incapable of doing for themselves otherwise.

Probably a lot more than 30% of US school children are foreign born or are citizens by accident of birth within our imaginary borders, so why should they care about our national flag, which teachers tell them is a symbol of slavery and oppression?
