Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is the latest indication that the world is rapidly becoming more unstable, top Pentagon leaders said Tuesday, as they warned that the prospects of major conflict between the U.S. and other great powers such as China and Russia are increasing. In testimony before a House panel, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark A. Milley said that he believes Russia’s unprovoked attack on its neighbor Ukraine isn’t an isolated event. He offered a grim warning about the future of a democratic world order that is now facing its greatest threat in decades. “Currently, we are supporting our European allies and guarding NATO’s eastern flank

A talk show host claims she was fired from a Washington D.C. radio station for making fun of the outfit worn by Vice President Kamala Harris during last month's State of the Union speech. She also works for conservative magazine The Spectator, where she recounted the incident in full. Amber Athey, a conservative host who worked on a morning show at news station WMAL, wrote a joking tweet about the color of the suit Harris was wearing. 'Kamala looks like a UPS employee—what can brown do for you? Nothing good, apparently,' Athey wrote in the March 1 tweet, referring to an old UPS tagline.

Hundreds of Ukrainian refugees who fled to Mexico are sitting in a makeshift refuge at a Tijuana sports center as they wait to enter the United States, authorities said today. The facility was converted into a government shelter after some 400 Ukrainians—about 30 per cent of whom are children—arrived to the northern Mexican city over the weekend. Images show those who have fled the devastating scenes in Ukraine sleeping on the floor and waiting with their belonging—including arrays of food supplies, blankets and children's toys—strewn around tents and sleeping mats. As President Joe Biden two weeks ago promised that the U.S. will accept up 100,000 refugees

The new app, which is in the planning stages, would block 42 words and phrases including those that could be used to criticize Amazon's working conditions, such as 'plantation', 'prison' and 'slave labor', according to The Intercept. Employees posting other keywords including 'ethics', 'unfair', 'vaccine', 'master', 'freedom' and 'injustice' could also see their posts on the messaging app blocked and flagged to management.(Snip)'Our teams are always thinking about new ways to help employees engage with each other,' Amazon spokesperson Barbara Agrait told the news site.

Palm Springs is to spend $200,000 on a guaranteed income scheme that only applies to the city's transgender and nonbinary residents.
The Californian city's council voted unanimously on Thursday in favor of the pilot scheme, which will give 20 residents between $600 and $900 a month for two years. Council Member Christy Holstege, who backed the scheme, told The Los Angeles Times that she felt 'incredibly proud' of the city for coming down on 'the right side of history and supporting our trans and nonbinary, gender-nonconforming community.'(Snip)'The bureaucracies that we've set up to fund poverty programs and to staff them are probably much more expensive than giving

An MSNBC host over the weekend said white Americans should “sit this out” as controversy persists around Will Smith slapping stand-up comic Chris Rock during the Academy Awards last week. Tiffany Cross, who anchors a weekend talk show on the left-leaning cable news network, interviewed actress Yvette Nicole Brown and TheGrio columnist Michael Harriot on Sunday. Harriot claimed the Smith-Rock incident was an example of “how black people relate to each other” in a way that white people do not understand, “even though it happened to everybody [watching the ceremony].”(Snip)“Some people use their words, some people use their hands. It is what it is.

The Border Patrol’s Del Rio sector covers 240 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. There are days when not a single agent is actually guarding the line, said Jon Anfinsen, president of the National Border Patrol Council’s Del Rio chapter. “We’ve had days with no agents patrolling whatsoever. Those that are out there are doing transportation duties, picking up groups that are turning themselves in, or doing processing,” Mr. Arfinsen told Republican members of Congress on Monday. Near Yuma, Arizona, 90% of the Border Patrol’s manpower is sometimes dedicated to transportation, hospital watch and other caretaking duties for illegal immigrants, leaving few agents for actually manning the boundary there,

It was like the hip-hop equivalent of “Weekend at Bernie’s.” Washington, DC’s Bliss nightclub has apologized over an appalling spectacle in which the body of slain rapper Goonew was reportedly displayed on their stage at his own funeral. The memorial service took place Sunday, weeks after the hip-hopper was shot dead at 24 years old.(Snip)The statement was posted amid trending Twitter footage that reportedly showed the slain rapper, whose real name is Markelle Morrow, apparently propped up onstage at Bliss nightclub while mourners raved around him like an Irish wake. The hip-hopper’s corpse was decked out in a hoodie, a blinged-out watch and a crown.

A company that the government paid to distribute “Obamaphones”—the nickname critics gave to government phones given to poor people—has agreed to pay $13.4 million to settle a case alleging that it doled out devices to tens of thousands of people who didn’t deserve them.
TracFone Wireless signed up more than 175,000 ineligible customers for the program between 2012 and 2015, according to the allegations the company paid to settle. Officially known as the Lifeline program, it became known as the Obamaphone after news reports showed recipients thanking then-President Barack Obama for giving them phones. That sparked a debate about the generosity of the American welfare system.
Comments:
They should also distribute guns and ammo so card recipients could return home safely from the gas station or from riding the bus.
