A Black cop who was fired from a Florida police department for using the N-word is back on the job this week after officials determined the punishment was too harsh. Delvin White, a beloved school resource officer at Tampa’s Middleton High School, was canned in March after an audit of his body-worn camera turned up at least two videos showing him using the racial slur in November 2020, according to police. In one of the incidents, the officer was heard referencing a group of people as “ghetto [n-words]” during a phone call, the Tampa Police Department said in a statement early this year.

The cruise line is pushing back against what they call "disinformation," saying it is almost certain the woman who died did not contract COVID on the ship. The Houston Chronical reported that 77-year-old Carnival Vista passenger Marilyn Tackett of Oklahoma was put on a ventilator in Belize after experiencing respiratory complications.(Snip)The tourism board said 99.98% of the ship's crew was vaccinated, as well as 96.5% of its passengers.

The Taliban were transformed from an insurgent rabble armed with cast-off Soviet-era weapons into one of the most well-equipped forces in the region in the space of a few days during their lightning-fast advance across Afghanistan. Following the complete collapse of the U.S.-equipped Afghan army, the Taliban were able to scoop up a trove of advanced military hardware: thousands of rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, artillery pieces and night-vision goggles.(Snip)And then there are the tactical aircraft now believed to be in Taliban custody: hundreds of helicopters, including top-of-the-line Blackhawks; dozens of heavy transport, reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft;

The militia leader who's facing life in prison for masterminding the bombing of a Minnesota mosque now identifies as a woman, according to court documents. Emily Claire Hari—previously known as Michael Hari—is asking a judge to legally acknowledge her transgender identity. Hari, 50, says a combination of gender dysphoria and right-wing misinformation fueled her "inner conflict" during the time that she was convicted of bombing Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington. "She strongly desired making a full transition but knew she would be ostracized from everyone and everything she knew," Hari's defense attorney, Shannon Elkins, wrote in court documents. "Thus, as she formed a ragtag group

Trenton, N.J.—New Jersey will be getting a “significant’” but so far unspecified number of Afghan refugees imminently, according to Gov. Phil Murphy, who spoke Monday during an unrelated news conference. He says he spoke with military officials over the last couple of days. They are taking charge of the effort to bring the Afghans to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Murphy said the state would do whatever it can to help, but he said it was likely that COVID-19 screenings and vaccinations would take place elsewhere. U.S. Northern Command said in a tweet that the Defense Department approved a State Department request for temporary housing and support

A New York judge ordered a defendant to get the COVID-19 vaccine as part of his plea deal, while another made it part of a drug dealing suspect's bail terms, unusual moves that legal observers say raise serious questions about the line between civil liberty and the law. President Joe Biden hailed the FDA's approval of the Pfizer vaccine as the 'moment you’ve all been waiting'–as he urged Americans who have been sitting on the fence to get their vaccine shots 'today' but dodged comment on Afghanistan. It was a welcome moment of good news for an administration battered by weeks of negative headlines, from spiking cases of COVID-19 to the collapse of the Afghan government and plunging poll numbers. And Biden, speaking at the White House, portrayed it as a huge victory even though it will be of limited practical value months after the vaccination received emergency approval.

Detective Everett Briscoe had earned his vacation. A 13-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, Briscoe had investigated homicides and other serious crimes across the city for over a decade. The 41-year-old father of two boys was preparing to pursue a university degree in criminal justice and, like many, was working to keep his family safe during the coronavirus pandemic. So as he unwound during a trip to Houston on Saturday night, Briscoe decided to grab dinner on the patio of the Grotto Restorante in the Texas city's ritzy Galleria neighborhood. But at 5:15 p.m., the evening turned tragic when two gunmen approached Briscoe
