The family of Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot while participating in the Jan. 6 invasion of the U.S. Capitol, plans to sue the police department and the officer who fired the gun for at least $10 million.
News of the forthcoming lawsuit, first reported by Newsweek, came more than two weeks after the Justice Department said it would not file criminal charges against the officer who killed Babbitt.
Terrell Roberts, an attorney for the Babbitt family, told CNBC on Thursday that it had not been determined when, or in which court

When Americans fight about race or culture, the fight is almost always really about social class. And that shows up in today’s discussions about riots and policing.
The Daily Caller recently sent a video correspondent to Brooklyn Center, Minn., scene of many police-shooting-related riots, and to Washington, DC, home of America’s ruling class, and asked people in both places when and if rioting was justified. The answers differed sharply.
In Brooklyn Center, where the destruction was visible firsthand, respondents (nearly all black men of various ages) overwhelmingly opposed rioting. An African-American man in an “Army Veteran” hat commented: “We’re human, and we want

Joe Biden’s big speech before Congress went about as well as you’d expect. The president stumbled through his notes, making numerous verbal gaffes and seemingly getting less energetic as the night wore on. He also managed to downplay major attacks like 9/11 and repeat various lies about things like guns and the Constitution.
Now, the ratings are in, and the embarrassment has commenced. The original numbers were catastrophically bad, and while the latest counts are higher, they still pale in comparison to Donald Trump’s numbers.
This per TV Newser.
Nielsen now reports that an estimated 26.9 million people tuned in to watch President Biden’s inaugural address to a Joint Session of Congress.

Kudos to Sen. Tim Scott for his slam-dunk response to President Joe Biden’s speech Wednesday night, calling out the president’s hypocrisy and demanding he start walking the “unity” walk.
And he did it with some killer lines, noting that “a president who promised to bring us together” is “pushing agendas that tear us apart” and scoffing of the refusal to negotiate on Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan that Democrats “won’t even build bridges to build bridges.”
Scott was particularly effective on Biden’s talk of “systemic racism.” He recounted his own experiences with discrimination, then declared: “America is not a racist country. It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different discrimination.”

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s latest call for police and fellow Portlanders to aggressively crack down on a small group of destructive demonstrators has angered left-leaning critics, rankled civil rights groups and now led to at least one veiled public death threat. Police are investigating a video published to Twitter on Wednesday night that claims militant activists in the city will continue to destroy property and riot until Wheeler resigns and also includes the mayor’s home address along with a menacing warning. “Blood is already on your hands, Ted,” says the video’s masked and voice-altered narrator, who appears outside a MAX station and claims to be a member of Portland’s anarchist

Thursday on CBS’s “This Morning,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she was confident in Democrats’ election prospects in 2022.
Pelosi touted the Census results, which she hinted could be favorable for her party’s cause.
“[E]lections are always a contest, and you see what happens in them,” she said. “But I feel very confident that the Democrats will hold the majority after the next election. I think that we’re — for all the huffing and puffing the Republicans are doing, these numbers were not as good for them as they had hoped. They wanted three in Texas, two in Florida and the rest. But many of the — much of the

A first address to Congress or State of the Union speech is pretty much one where you completely control your environment and everyone is generally fairly polite in response. Some from the opposing side might not clap and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up President Donald Trump’s speech during one of his addresses. But for the most part, you have the floor without interruption.
So, in general, it’s hard not to get a positive reaction to a speech and scenario you completely control — in Biden’s case, one long delayed that ordinarily would have been in February.

As a friend said during a lunch date Wednesday, “Why is anyone surprised that Biden is doing exactly what we all told them he would do if he won the election?” The only thing somewhat surprising is the speed at which he’s enacting his (or Jill’s, or Kamala’s) totalitarian agenda.
Since many of the individual pieces of the Democrat party’s wet dream wish list of brutal legislation can’t pass on their own (specifically, PRO Act). The Hologram’s decided to roll them into a massive “infrastructure” bill. That bill faces a tough road in the House, where Dems can only lose two votes and still pass a bill without

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that we could not ignore the so-called predominant domestic threat was the white national threat and “some of the folks are part of the Trump base.”
Wallace said, “I want to ask you about the work on the intelligence committee. Is it different now that the intel chiefs testified to the tragic new reality that the gravest threats to the country are domestic violent extremists? Currently, under the threat warning, we know about radicalized by the big lie still being repeated by Donald Trump. I believe six times since last week

Below is the full text of President Joe Biden’s prepared address to Congress:
Madame Speaker.
Madame Vice President.
No president has ever said those words from this podium, and it’s about time.
The First Lady.
The Second Gentleman.
Mr. Chief Justice.
Members of the United States Congress and the Cabinet – and distinguished guests.
My fellow Americans.
While the setting tonight is familiar, this gathering is very different – a reminder of the extraordinary times we are in.
Throughout our history, Presidents have come to this chamber to speak to the Congress, to the nation, and to the world.
To declare war. To celebrate peace. To announce new plans and possibilities.
Tonight, I come to talk about crisis

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated that if Democrats can’t come to a bipartisan agreement on voting rights legislation “everything will be on the table to get it done.” And that one of the pieces of leverage he has for Democratic senators is that if Democrats don’t block some state election laws, “the chances of our caucus retaining the majority and people who are up for re-election like Kelly and Warnock winning is greatly diminished.”
Schumer said, “[T]here are a number of members of my caucus who say, let’s try things in a bipartisan way. Let’s see if we can get Republicans

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WJW) – An Ohio pub owner says he’s “never been busier” since telling people that he wouldn’t be showing NBA games until LeBron James was expelled from the league.
Jay Linneman, owner of Linnie’s Pub in Cincinnati, announced the ban shortly after a tweet from James about the death of Ma’khia Bryant. The 16-year-old was shot to death by a Columbus police officer on April 21.
It happened around the same time jurors delivered a guilty verdict against Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd.
James tweeted a photo of the officer who killed Bryant with the words, “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY.”
