Texas lawmakers this week advanced seven pro-life bills out of committee and into the full Senate chamber for hearings. (Tweet/Photo) The Texas Abolition Strategy (SB 1647) is an omnibus measure that includes three separate pro-life provisions: the Heartbeat Act (SB 8), which would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected; the Preborn NonDiscrimination Act (PreNDA) (SB 1173), which would abolish abortions sought due to the sex, ethnicity, or disability of the unborn baby; and the Human Life Protection Act (SB 9), which seeks to abolish all remaining elective abortions in Texas if

All well and good, but distracts from the state's core issues that have come to light since Covid and the winter storm. The bill to keep your eyes on is HJR 42 sponsored by Rep. Steve Toth of The Woodlands. It is a constitutional amendment to require a special session of the Texas Legislature to determine if a governor can extend a state of emergency past 30 days. Like other blue state governors, Abbott's EOs were far reaching and oppressive. He never called a special session of the legislature resulting in Texans having no representation during the pandemic. Again, follow the news on this bill. I get the impression from politicians' news releases, or lack thereof, they don't want any responsibilities in emergencies either.

#2 - It is "all well and good" that the citizens of Texas learn the hard truth about their state's poor performance during the ice storm, but I believe Texans can handle two tough subjects at once. Abortion is the keystone issue used by the communists to destroy our values, culture and nation.
The acceptance of the legalized killing of our children was their focus beginning in the the early 1960's. Without our current technology that can see into the womb, it was easy for the corrupt to put forth the "blob of cells" argument. The heartless killers focused on the plight of abused children claiming that abortion would reduce the number of "unwanted" children, and therefore child abuse would cease to exist. We were "promised" abortion would be "safe, legal and rare." Women were portrayed as helpless victims of their physiology, a concept that now encompasses whether a person accepts their womanhood or manhood all the way down to toddlers. Surgery to "fix" the problems of sex and sexual identity have become the norm.
By denying the right to life to our most vulnerable citizens it becomes easier to deny natural rights and advocate for unnatural rights. The unholy grail of the Left is their blood sacrifice of innocents, the irreversible mutilation of bodies and defiling marriage and the family. The destabilization of society began with legalized abortion. To stabilize our society we must begin by making abortion the anathema it truly is to Life. We must foster strong families and champion the right to life from the womb to the tomb. I am heartened by the Texas legislature having the courage to challenge the godless and stand ready to defend the absolutely defenseless, the babe in the womb.
40 Days for Life continues its annual Lenten prayer vigils outside Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics. The vigils will last until next Sunday, March 28th. There's still time to give public, prayerful witness to the sanctity of life. Click on the link, there are hundred of vigil sites all across America. Pray for Life. These vigils have shut down over a hundred "clinics". Planned Parenthood hates 40 Days for Life.

#3, you misunderstand. I am pro-life and I agree with your arguments. My comment was expressing concern about the administrative and political process to address issues impacting on the recent poor performance of state governing bodies and executive agency malfeasance in the limited amount of time the legislature is in session.
The current session will end 31 May 2021. That's a little over two months from now and the legislature will not go into session for two years. Unless HJR 42 is passed and signed by the governor, then expect a repeat of executive agency overreach if another emergency arises. As you point out, pro-life measures are a hot button issue and I would expect a vigorous debate. Republicans have a thin majority in both chambers and I would think the arguments to be drawn out, cutting into time to take action on other legislation. It's possible, and I stress possible, that the pro-life measure, which actually encompasses several bills is tailor made to push out other legislation.
For example, here is the list of Texas bills passed so far:
https://capitol.texas.gov/Reports/Report.aspx?LegSess=87R&ID=passed
As interesting as these bills are (s/o), honoring someone for their service to the state and bills relating to routine administrative matters have so far taken up a lot of time for a session which started on January 12. Also, May 10 is the last day for House committees to report House bills and House joint resolutions out of committee. The clock is ticking, and I do not have confidence the legislature will tackle any other much needed legislation. But that's just me.

Yes #3. I am active in several Texas Pro-Life organizations. The poster made a good point because these bills were all of a sudden kickstarted up. As caring pro-lifers cheered Missouri, Oklahoma and several other red state legislatures and Governors for their bold new pro-life laws, we saw Texas politicians get with the program. Politicians are politicians - even in Texas.

#2 - Your legislative point is valid, but to derail a thread about positive pro-life legislation was not the place to air your concerns about the Texas energy debacle.

I'm not derailing a thread, I'm simply stating an opinion on the timing of the bill. Yes, I'm cynical about the Texas governor and the legislature, but why wouldn't I be given recent events and the governor's unwarranted attack on Gab to try and bolster his conservative (?) credentials. It's more than the energy debacle. It's about lack of principles and legislative gamesmanship.
