Brett Kavanaugh piled up huge debt
buying baseball tickets

New York Post, by Joe Tacopino

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has reportedly incurred a mountain of debt partly due to buying season tickets for the Washington Nationals. Kavanaugh reported having between $60,000 and $200,000 in debt on three credit cards and a personal loan in 2016, according to The Washington Post. The Nationals tickets were purchased for himself and friends over the past decade. White House spokesman Raj Shah told the paper that Kavanaugh has since paid off some of the debt while his friends paid him back for the tickets. Kavanaugh, who has not worked in the more lucrative private sector, showed assets between

Clearly criminal mind at work here.

/s off

They are truly desperate.

Personally, I wouldn´t pay $50 for tickets, but I don´t care about "stick and ball games" as a general class. Lots of folks consider it very important, family and social events.

Omg, are the Dems really going to oppose a guy that loves baseball and has run up credit card debts? Those are two things many Americans do! And, right before the All-Star game???
I guess the party of those who would take a knee on America during the playing of her national anthem, would oppose a guy who likes America´s favorite past-time, baseball.
And, by the way, how was this learned? Who pulled his credit report without his permission to find this out? Isn´t that illegal?

Who knew that Kavanaugh is a human being, and not like the perfectly divine angel each Democrat surely is. I bet we´ll even find out that he has to use the bathroom every day, not like those perfectly divine angels the Democrats.

How odd is it, that when it comes their time to choose Supreme Court justices, Democrats never view being an anti-American Marxist as in any way a disqualification...?

Their evil nonsense has been tolerated for far too long. Time to call them out on it.

I´m sure there is some leftist secret operative watching what sort of toilet paper he buys at the store. Probably have already infiltrated his sewer line to count how many sheets he uses

I don´t recall the enemedia making any noise about Sotomayor´s unrenounced membership in the racist group LaRaza. Their selective judgmentalism should discredit their reporting.

And I don´t care about a 2016 debt. Notice how his having lower reported assets than other justices is presented here as if it´s a negative. You can bet that a Democrat appointee in the same situation would be praised for not being out of touch with the lives of the middle class.

I´m going to say something very unpopular here. I don´t necessarily give a darn about the baseball tickets, that´s his business (esp since people like the Obamas and more esp the Clintons have never used their own money to buy a thing for themselves, much less for their friends, in their lives, e.g the Clintons were famous for never carrying a wallet, and thereby always forcing "somebody else" to pick up every check, and this goes back to their earliest days). However, he earns $179,000 a year and I would think would have more assets, if this disclosure refers to net assets, in excess of $15,000-$65,000. As a government employee shouldn´t his retirement account be that by 53? Maybe the couple´s home is in his wife´s name? Perhaps they´ve never bought a home and pay the high rents of the DC area? Or maybe assets means liquid assets and do not include retirement accounts? Anyway, the disparity between the amount spent on baseball tickets and his assets did strike me as odd.

Remember Rubio´s $80,000 "yacht"? Turns out it was a regular fishing boat and the price was pretty average.

The Left will talk about anything as a bad trait when they are trying to assassinate someone´s character. If someone makes too much, they are part of the "1%". If they make too little, they are not successful enough. The lines of "too much" and "too little" are adjustable to meet dem needs for an attack. Some of the most amusing times are when the media fails to coordinate and one is attacking for too much and the other for too little at the same time proving the absurdity of both of them.

Beyond this, the media will require a Republican to be flawless, which can never happen because they invent stuff as needed to smear Republicans.

Dems on the other hand just need to show up. If unseemly facts show up, as they often do, the media goes into explanation and defend mode.

The media is clearly become a propaganda arm for the dems. They whine loudly when they are accurately labeled as such but that doesn´t make it untrue. Their "reporting" has reached blatant levels of bias and fakeness.

Because of this, they have been declawed. No one believes them. They have become "Hollyweird Too", purveyors of fantasy.

There is going to be a whirlwind of angst surrounding this nomination because that is all the Left can do. Kavanaugh is an excellent choice given the narrow vote margin in the Senate. Unfortunately, the RINOs must be mollified so a happy warrior extrovert like Scalia couldn´t be approved. But Kavanaugh is likely to be a good choice for an moderately Conservative court and with a colleague like Gorsuch with him.

I don’t understand what the author of this article means. Does he mean that Kavanaugh was dead broke in 2016 and had to beg for money to pay off a standing debt? Did he mean that Kavanaugh spent up to $200k on baseball tickets? Or up to $200, including baseball tickets? Or that he incurred debt of $60k-200k on each individual card or total? Or even that he incurred credit card debt buying clothes, groceries, school supplies, travel etc. AND baseball tickets? He could have paid off his credit card debt each month and still be said to have been in debt. BTW and depending on his age, how much debt has Joe Tacopino incurred in the last decade?

#20: $179,000 per year in D.C. is not much. The cost of living there is among the highest in the country and he has a family. Defined benefit pensions are not counted as an asset in your net worth as you can not pull anything out until you retire. IRAs and 401k´s are assets because you own the market value of the money invested in them.

I am happy his net worth is a positive number.

The dems are excellent nit pickers when it comes to Republican SCOTUS nominees, but no one is to turn that light on them! Look no further than the Clinton Flundation/Iniative. When are we going to look into the financial shenanigans of those two while the old gal was a Senator and then Secretary of State? Lots of people use zero-interest credit cards to manage cash flow and short term debt. It is called financial planning!

If you pay them off, there´s nothing wrong with it. I´ve used them as interest free loans to purchase and rehab properties which I´ve later refinanced in a traditional fashion.

Using tools is not wrong. If he owns an ax, does that mean he ´might´ go on a rampage and murder his family? The MSM is totally dishonest, and disingenuous!

This is an article with no story. Remember this is debt over ten years (at least). So divide the numbers by 10 making it $6,000 to $20,000 per year. Add the fact that the tickets were apparently in his name yet friends share the seats so cut those numbers in half or divide by four. None of those numbers are exceptional. But, the Murdochs are "Never Trumpers" so they got as much slur into the article as they could.

Yes, but aren´t we overlooking the Democrats concern that Mr. Kavanaugh might discriminate in favor of baseball players, as he seems to like the game. And worse, Democrats add that Mr. Kavanaugh is in debt. Debt has not bothered Democrats much in the past, all because they have spent our money, and left us with the debt --- but they have apparently improved themselves, and are now concerned, at last, about debts, not those the Democrats stuck us with, but Mr. Kavanaugh´s private debts.

#29 is on to something.

Because the debts weren´t broken down into specific line items, it is assumed they were all baseball tickets. They aren´t.

And the tickets were for a FULL season. You save money when you buy in bulk and companies get the cash immediately. Hey ... even the MET Opera does that!

Last point ... I buy everything on Amazon as none of my friends or relatives want to give out their personal info, they aren´t computer savvy, etc. My Amazon bills are HUGE ... but only 30% mine. And I earn 2% back or miles depending on the card I use. And Amazon sends me all sorts of discounts.

Why is this story a "must read." It is one of the silliest stories I´ve ever seen. "Between $60,000 and $200,000 in debt" could be $60,001 in debt. "Partly due to buying season tickets" could mean $1 for tickets. He likely just bought someone else´s tickets as a convenience when he bought his, knowing his friend(s) would pay him back promptly (My wife has done that frequently with tickets for plays for her and her friends.). Also, we have no idea what assets were shown as being between &15,000 and $65,000.

Maybe the silliest thing is the comment, "A lovable weakness and it´s under control now." Is there really enough information in the story to suggest a "weakness"? Of course not.

Those who have access to very good season tickets to sports team events or access to numbers of good tickets to other major sports events, have to buy them up front. Generously doing so so that friends can purchase tickets from them. Many times the “friends” who wish to have some of their tickets take their sweet time paying for them. Sounds as though Kavanaugh got caught up in that kind of situation. We know it well. Now those who want our tickets know they pay us for them when we order them.

On a recent trip overseas, a friend and his wife were staying with us. We made the reservations for a number of days at a fairly nice venue in the countryside. The cost for four for a number of days was a substantial number. My friend repaid us for their portion, later, but the intial credit card hit was substantial.

I can easily imagine a group of friends wanting season tickets all together and one person buying them, then getting reimbursed later.

Much ado about nothing. As usual.

Did anyone else notice that this very brief article was cherry-picked from a longer detailed article at the WaPo?

White House spokesman Raj Shah told The Washington Post that Kavanaugh built up the debt by buying Washington Nationals season tickets and tickets for playoff games for himself and a “handful” of friends. Shah said some of the debts were also for home improvements.

In 2016, Kavanaugh reported having between $60,000 and $200,000 in debt accrued over three credit cards and a loan. Each credit card held between $15,000 and $50,000 in debt, and a Thrift Savings Plan loan was between $15,000 and $50,000.

The credit card debts and loan were either paid off or fell below the reporting requirements in 2017, according to the filings, which do not require details on the nature or source of such payments. Shah told The Post that Kavanaugh’s friends reimbursed him for their share of the baseball tickets and that the judge has since stopped purchasing the season tickets.

China is a foe economically, certainly, they are a foe.” Listing the EU before China and Russia — both of which have had a more hostile relationship with the US — would likely surprise a lot of people,

It was a hot and difficult summer. And Europeans were pained to hear the blunt assessment that the U.S. would not be able to forever sustain NATO without greater investment on their part. The alliance was heading for “collective military irrelevance” and the current state of affairs was “unacceptable,” the American official said. He noted that America’s share of NATO spending during the Cold War was 50 percent, but after 1989 it steadily rose to become nearly 75 percent. President Trump’s director of national intelligence warned Friday that foreign hackers are attempting potentially crippling cyberattacks against critical U.S. infrastructure, relating a rash of recent assaults with “alarming activities” detected by U.S. intelligence prior to terrorists striking on September 11, 2001. “The system was blinking red. Here we are nearly two decades later and I’m here to say the warning lights are blinking red again,” Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said at an event held by the Hudson Institute think tank. “Today, the digital infrastructure that serves this country is literally under attack,”

Congressional interns said that an Uber driver refused to take them to President Trump’s Washington, D.C., hotel because they had “Make America Great Again” hats. Matthew Handy told FOX 5 on Friday that he and a group of Capitol Hill interns hailed a ride near George Washington University earlier this week. But when the driver saw Trump’s signature red campaign hats in their hands, Handy said, he refused to take them to the hotel. “He´s like, ‘Is that a Make America Great Again hat?’” Handy said of the driver. “We´re like, ‘Yes, sir. It is.’ He said, ‘Well, I can´t do this ride.” The intern who ordered the ride was not charged,

Helsinki — A small Finnish craft brewery is paying a humorous tribute to the Helsinki summit. RPS Brewing has issued a limited-edition lager depicting cartoon U.S. and Russian presidents on its label, with text for Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin saying "Let´s Settle This Like Adults" and "Making Lager Great Again." The beer has been in high demand since it hit the shelves nationwide a few days ago and the whole 10,000-bottle lot had been sold out ahead of Monday´s summit. Samples have also been delivered to the U.S. and Russian embassies in Helsinki. [snip] CEO Samuli Huuhtanen told The Associated Press

“Let’s go to a real network.” That’s what President Donald Trump said during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday after refusing to take a question from his perpetual target, CNN’s Jim Acosta. Instead, he called on John Roberts from Fox News. “CNN is fake news,” Trump said as Acosta tried to get a question in. “I don’t take questions from CNN.” [snip] In a statement to the Washington Post’s media critic Erik Wemple, who accused Roberts of “essentially validating the president’s hostile, baseless, authoritarian, gratuitous slam on a group of peers,” Fox News’ chief

President Trump’s conduct during his trip to the United Kingdom has left even seasoned observers scratching their heads. Trump’s criticism of British Prime Minister Theresa May in an interview with The Sun newspaper has overshadowed the visit, to no discernible benefit to the president. Even Trump seemed to acknowledge the misstep when he admitted during a joint news conference with May on Friday that he had tried to apologize to her. “When I saw her this morning I said, ‘I want [to] apologize, because I said such good things about you.’ She said, ‘Don’t worry, it’s only the press,’ ” Trump said.

Pretty much every American news outlet is gleeful about the “giant Trump baby balloon,” as it is conventionally described, that supposedly is dominating the London landscape while Trump is in England. London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, gave activists permission to fly the blimp (as it is also referred to), which apparently was needed because it is so “giant.” Photos of the balloon/blimp do make it look large, like this one attributed to the Associated Press: [photo] But this morning, a colleague of mine who is from London got this photo that was taken by a friend. An unidentified 2016 congressional candidate reached out to Russian intelligence officers collectively posing as a Romanian hacker under the pseudonym Guccifer 2.0 for dirt on a political opponent, according to an indictment filed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller Friday. The indictment, which names twelve members of the Russian military intelligence unit known as the GRU, mentions an unnamed congressional candidate who, in August of 2016, asked Guccifer 2.0 “for stolen documents” related to his or her opponent. Hillary Clinton had strong words for the Trump administration and Republicans on Friday while addressing the American Federation of Teachers, saying the fundamental rights of Americans are what’s at stake this November. Speaking at the labor union’s conference in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Clinton slammed the administration’s separations of families at the border as inhumane and indecent. “I believe with all my heart that the test of any society is how we treat the most vulnerable among us, particularly our youngest, our oldest, our people with disabilities, and right now, my friends, our country is failing that test,” she said. “We have

Prince Charles and Prince William reportedly ‘snubbed’ the US President during his visit to Britain - leaving the Queen to meet Donald Trump alone at Windsor Castle. The royal father and son apparently shared their desire to not take part in the arrangements during informal discussions regarding the president’s four-day tour. Trump’s trip was not a state visit and so only the Queen greeted the president and his wife Melania. However even on working trips dignitaries expect to see more members of the royal family than only the Queen. The indictment Friday of 12 Russian military officers for the election hacks against the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign lends a surprising new detail to the 2016 election interference timeline: The Kremlin’s hackers apparently still maintained a foothold in the DNC’s network four months after the Democrats announced that they’d locked the intruders out. Until today, the story of the DNC hack ended promptly on June 14, 2016, when the Democrats went public with the intrusion in the pages of the Washington Post, and Crowdstrike, the security firm hired to respond to the breach, published a detailed technical account. Anyone who has ever been to a recycling plant is invariably surprised at how dirty and nasty America’s favorite green activity really is. Trucks dump the material on a long conveyor belt, where a few dozen people pick through by hand what is supposed to be recyclable material, but more and more often is just plain old dirty trash. The recyclables used to be worth something more than bragging rights about liberal moral superiority. Plastic bottles, newspapers, and cardboard, were just a few of the favorites you could ship to China by the ton and make a few bucks along the

Americans are encouraged to embrace diversity and be culturally sensitive to those who have flouted our laws and invaded our nation. Meanwhile, illegal aliens arriving in America have no such requirement. Instead, trespassing tribes relocate, and when they do, rather than assimilate, they transfer habits and activities indigenous to the countries from whence they migrated. Thus, Americans suffer from illnesses that are easily traceable to third-world bathroom habits (TWBH) and lack of hygiene in the developing world. It´s not news that illegals work in restaurants as food-handlers. These restaurant workers migrate from
